I would not have thought it was possible for him to get any less likable, but somehow he does it.

Says even the name “Ole Miss” was problematic for him. Of course, he lauds the diversity at LSU.

Conveniently, none of this became a problem for him until AFTER he had collected $50 million in compensation over six years from the school.

I would imagine he is probably positionIng himself for a ossible jump to the pros if he hits it good with a couple good years of success at LSU run off the bat.

Alternatively, he realizes what he did was a dirtbag move, so he’s just trying to justify his actions.

This is such a Lane thing. He got what he wanted. He bolted Ole Miss for the higher paying LSU job. He has everything he wants. But for some reason, he needed to go back and trash the school and the community that treated him like an absolute god while he was there.

Kiffen is one of the biggest frauds in sports. That's an obvious self-serving lie. His exit looks so bad, he is desperate to revise history

Well, you can't get any further away from racism than Louisiana, so at least he did his research before leaving Ole Miss.
Well, the LSU Tigers nickname came from a regiment in the Civil War. That fought for the Confederacy, obviously. Which means they were pro slave. Which means they were racist. Which means Lane Kiffin is a pro-slavery racist.

Here’s Lane, gushing about how the people of Oxford are the absolute best people on the planet, and he was honored to live among them and have his children raised in that environment.

Like most with no ''truth compass'' and moral fiber, they can say anything depending on the audience and what benefit they get from it.
Even it is a straight up lie and/or contradiction to their own past statements.
As it works in Kiffin's favor, he doesn't have to mean what he said. You just have to say it to buy cred with the DEI crowd

This goes beyond any previous behavior by Kiffin. Presumably he left behind some friendships in Oxford. He previously spoke very fondly of the community and the privilege of raising his kids there and how the community loved his family when his parents died. Now he throws them all under the bus, attacking the moral fiber of the community.

And to what end? He's already got the golden ring. He has his elite job. Everyone had pretty much moved on. What possible goal could there be in swinging back by a few months later and tossing a grenade into the room?

Despicable doesn't begin to describe it.

There really was no point to it, imo.

But we all know how this works. All will be forgiven as long as he wins X number of games a year.

Heck, I bet everyone on this board will be cheering for him the first game of the year.

The hilarious things is, Louisiana was just about to put back up some Confederate statues that have been removed.

My concern is that Lane's comments will stir up renewed scrutiny of all this stuff. SC just observed Confederate Memorial Day. Surely that can be used against them.

There are already those on X who are using his comments to leverage a renewed evaluation of the South's "complicated" past and saying black athletes should go to northern schools.

Lane’s shelf life appears to be 2-3 yrs.By then he will be looking at greener pastures(NFL) and disparage LSU on his way out. It’s play out that way at every stop.

Can a tiger change its stripes? (pun not intended)

Lane is 51. He is who he is.

Well, if I was on a staff that isn't in southern states I would be all over his comments, and using them as a recruiting tool

Well, Lane doesn't have that recruiting advantage, of course. The problem for him is that he opened the door the scrutiny of LSU and Louisiana. It only took about 2 seconds for users on X to point out that LSU's Tiger mascot name came from a Louisiana regiment that fought for the Confederacy in the Civil War.

Ole Miss should challenge Lane publicly if he supports changing the nickname. It would be a brilliant move. Does he immediately backtrack on his positions just stated to Vanity Fair or does he royally piss of LSU fans by saying the nickname should be changed? The former kneecaps the credibility of everything he said about Ole Miss.

Nonsense; not everyone.

Personally, on September 5th, 2026, I'll be rooting for the earth to open up in Baton Rouge and swallow everyone there deep, deep into its bowels. The average IQ of two states would instantly increase by 50 points and the local air quality would also improve immensely. Seems like a win-win.

Of course, others can root for whomever they prefer.

Ha. I did forget that one option. But other than that and the asteroid, I think most on here, if not everyone, will choose LSU over Clemson.

If they have asteroids, it might irritate them and slow them down but they'll probably just use some Preparation H. ;)

This is one of the games where I root for both to lose: numerous season-ending injuries on both sides along with major medical events for both head coaches. It seems proportional considering who the participants are.

I'll never forget the scenes on ESPN - Lane standing on the sidelines, visibly distraught from the rampant racism on display, choking back tears as he exclaimed, "If one more person calls me a cracker, I, I, I'll just quit and go to Weezyanna".

Glad to see he was a man of his word.

As long as we're talking made-up racism (which is most of it), we can't forget ESPN pulling Asian-American announcer Robert Lee from a college football game b/c of his name.

Now that Kiffen doesn't have that huge burden of racism at Ole Miss holding him back, a national championship every year should be easy for him to produce.

LSU, the home of freedom and anti-racism. So anti-racist that LSU rushed to be the first to commission a statue of Charlie Kirk, the guy who said MLK was a terrible person and that if he saw a black pilot he would question whether he was qualified.

Lane seems like kid who always seeks to be part of the cool crowd, and always feels left out. Ole Miss certainly wasn't big enough for his ego. Lane blew it at UofSoCal, but that school has/had more checks in place over coach power. LSU is gonna bow to whatever Lane wants... as long as he wins.

You really should take a break from the propaganda for a while. Stop letting a political party tell you who to hate.

Interesting that Sarkisian spoke out today to bash Ole Miss academics, considering his starting QBs father, uncle and grandfather are all Ole Miss graduates.
