The school is LONG overdue to have the difficult discussion of going to a lower conference or D-2 or D-3. Yeah yeah, I get it, try to figure out a way for Men’s Basketball to be a D-1 program.

Truth is all other sports are longstanding competitive jokes. There’s zero sustained success anywhere. Lucky seasons here and there is all the school hopes for.

And all the school does is give the same excuses and reasons without trying anything different. Simply changing athletic directors isn’t the answer. The next guy will just give the same old story and excuses as the past 20 of them did.

Either the school has to invest a TON(mind blowing amount) of money to get competitive in all sports or just stop pretending already.

Obviously Holloway’s the problem. The school has had a financial problem for their athletic programs, long before Holloway as head coach, or the NIL.

Really depressing. (Valuable information, but how could anyone "Like" this???)

My worry or fear is if we dropped down to A-10 (really not much a drop) or the Patriot League.... or lower, we would still be middle-of-the-pact mediocre there, too.

FWIW the cross country teams are basically club sports, which explains their ranking. Gives some students the chance to participate in a sport and represent SH as student athletes. X-Country basically is a training exercise for distance runners to prepare for the indoor/outdoor seasons. SH unfortunately dropped track “Moon’s” ago. 😰

We’d be the bottom

The other elephant in the room is the NBE is average, below avg or terrible in most of these sports

There has never been in recent memory, a commitment by the BOR and Admin to success in sports. Underinvestment and it's just not a priority for the school. And maybe that's their plan. It all starts at the top, and I don't see any sense of urgency to change the strategy that they have run with.

Their big move was to redo Walsh. Putting lipstick on a pig. The really important stuff like have strong competitive sports programs was not a priority.

RB still as the baseball coach is confusing particularly with all the baggage. CC the direct result of Moon retirement.

It's very simple. We do not have the money needed to properly support our non BB sports program and we are losing current and recruited players at an alarming rate.

Until this play for pay nonsense has some semblance of order do not look for any Olympic sport to be more than what we saw this past year.

In some sports yes, but in others we were far more competitive.

Money then and especially now will always be a problem for the Hall. Both we and the school have to do a better job supporting our athletes.

The ones that you categorize as 'not important' are the true student athletes. I understand your point about men's basketball, but those guys are as far from student athletes these days as possible. They are pros jumping from place to place for the most cash. What a shame that college athletics has devolved to this state.

I get your point but your choice of metaphor there really offends me. Walsh is clearly not a suitable major basketball venue. But it serves--and has for many many years--served as something much more.

Just to give an example. I was talking to the volleyball coach recently and she said that she had a recruit in about a month ago and she was asking in the $ 30,000 range. INSANE!!!

I think the point I made is their priorities are screwed up. Walsh was an example. What is the point of having a spruced up Walsh but athletic programs that are suffering from a lack of sound management, direction and financial support?

And you either make the commitment to find the money or you choose to not prioritize sports. There are schools our size in the BE or even lesser conferences that make the choice with athletics. Like I said…it starts at the top.

Selfishly, I like soccer and baseball so I'd hope they can do well there, but in truth, it is hard to argue with a strategy said or unsaid of running out the minimum teams you have to be D1 to then actually make your one, true effort be men's basketball.

School showed their "commitment" when track can't back from winning some titles and said there was no more program. They should have been celebrating....
