He was never going to be in that position. Emmett was never going to go higher in he draft next year no matter who he played for .
Getting 2 million next year by a college gets him much much closer to being set for life, relying much less on that 2nd contract to get there, and running behind a good o line, and likely with a qb that can complete a down field pass with some consistency, would sure as **** make him look even better and more desirable. You’re probably wrong.

Exactly. Google says Ameer earned over $13 million in his career and he has 3 years over 50 carries, and one of those was a 66 carry year. Need the right system and no major injuries.
Rex also made 18 million in 10 years. Decent pension for 10 year NFL career and earnings. EJ should be the next N line for a good NFL career.
He will make $1 million this season + the signing bonus. He could have improved his draft stock, but he was never going to vault into the first round.
Was his NIL contract going to be significantly more than $1.5 million? What if his production dropped and he was a 7th round pick next year? Not quite as simple as you make it and there is really no argument that he landed in about the best spot possible.
I read it as he’s only guaranteed 485k. I just think, money wise, he would have been better off coming back for 1 year, especially with the ridiculous #’s floating around that colleges are paying. He definitely could be around for many years and I hope he is.
You are correct, his 2026 salary isn't guaranteed, but it would be a crazy situation to cut your rookie rb who is already 3rd string. I think they are looking for reps out of him this year.

Exactly. The only way entering the NFL was a bad financial move is if he gets cut without ever making the roster. He did get drafted, so they are going to want him to make the roster.
On the lost in the portal front, Tamon Lynum has signed on to a camp spot with the Steelers. That kid is an example that we need to be on the other end on. He took a while to develop (mostly at NU) but apparently played good football (at Pitt) his last couple years.
It's that way for me with a lot of guys starting with the Callahan era. I think he was one of those central Florida Scott Frost recruits. Kinda raw, lanky, not super fast. I think he played some games for us before he transferred. I can't remember.

I’m excited that it’s almost August 1 and football is just around the corner. I enjoy the stories coming out of training camp about which guys are turning heads and how rosters are shaping up.

Emmett plays with a chip on his shoulder. For all he acalades he had n HS he was not recruited heavily and ignored by his home state team. I think he has a chance to have a decent and lengthy career because he isn’t and won’t be an every down back .
I was such a big Jerrick McKinnon fan. He carved out a valuable role with the Chiefs. Kind of an elusive third down back, caught the ball extremely well out of the backfield, but most importantly could pick up the blitz really well.
I could see Emmett in a similar role. His pass protection will have to improve significantly though. That must be one of the harder skills because not very many guys are good at it., But it will gain the trust of your coach and let you be in the league for a good while
