If he comes, you have to think the plan is to slide Kam to the 4 with Hawthorne as the back up 3. Domino effect would have McBride in a back up PF roll and N'diaye as the back up center. A Zoom/Wilkins/Milan/Kam/Moreno is pretty on offense, possibly a disaster on defense. But a bench of Hawthorne, N'daiye, McBride, Morton and M Williams is solid. Spot minutes for Noah.

The roster doesn't have a lot of bulk, but would be long with a good mix of shooting/driving.
N'diaye from the videos I've watched doesn't play the 5, he only plays on the perimeter.

I would imagine they didn't have the money for him anyway which is why his name is in the portal.
Michigan is another team that reached out i read, I can see this as another Yaxel deal where he chooses them because of Dusty May developing him over the cash. I'd love to see Pope land him but I have no faith whatsoever in him recruiting top players.

people who use whiff are like 30 year olds who use bro. Getting more negativity out there. pretty pathetic. We have 12 players. Some going to be on bench some unknowns Ousmane and Hawthorne but this would be a big get. Heard mentality by bandwagon fans.
"herd mentality"

Whiff is a catchy word that is getting a lot of run these days.

What word would you prefer for Pope? Feckless? Futile? Defeated? Founder? Misfire? Failure? Faulty? Fiasco? Debacle? Blunder?

I don't have an elementary school education and you wanna kill yourself most days. You are a shinning example of how pathetic, trolls are. Pope had a harder schedule than most prior coaches. Pope had a better SEC schedule he was going against. Idiots like you are the reason we will fire coach and go 0 for and I'll blame people who pretend to be fans.

hiding behind a computer and trying to insult someone, shows me lack of balls. I'd rather spell words wrong over being brave and saying mean things behind a computer. Especially to one who don't know someone as pathetic as you exists. Plus your lack of knowing or watching Kentucky basketball is piss poor, and it shows.

missed out on.
We have such a big fan base that negative takes are spread everywhere. The top targets we missed out on were Stokes and Wright. I
s Wilkins a whiff too, getting Ousmane and Mcbride instead of Freeman is that a whiff? Getting Zoom instead of Wright is that a whiff?
I hate that word because whiffing is basically sniffing. it's like a trend that leads to stupid photoshops and why negatively put stuff out on a team you are supposed to love?

last year did you know we had 2nd best portal class, what did that do for us?
I was fooled into believing that last year's class was better than it actually was, Mo & Aberdeen were 6th men on their teams & not starters, then JQ didn't play & Lowe got hurt, the pieces never fit. Yes, Pope has missed out on so many players but I've said it & I'll say it again, next year's team already has 2 things that year 2 didn't have, 2 true PG's that can get to the rim & we have more 3 point shooting. Chandler was easily defended during the post season, with no true PG & him not being able to create his own shot. Next year's team will definitely get more open looks from 3. Morton can create his own shot & so can McBride, they will have to be overachievers again, maybe Kam takes another step & Hawthorne ends up being really good? The roster still needs a few players. I'm not gonna hold my breath on signing this kid though because Pope just doesn't seem to be able to close.

This thread shows what a **** hole site this has become. Some of you need to go back and reread this post and ask what value you brought to it besides just wanting to be on here bitching and complaining. Pretty sad what the mods have allowed to happen to this site.
You aren’t wrong about the recent discourse. Name calling shouldn’t be allowed at all imo. If people can’t have a peaceful debate or dialogue without resorting to ad homs and character attacks, I don’t see how it’s worthwhile.

This place is fine. It's a time where nothing is happening, and there's no excitement. Even the staunchest of optimists can only go so far in convincing themselves a ragtag bunch of players nobody wants is going to amount to anything. We see guys like Kev and ITVI coming to that realization. There will be friction when someone tries to talk sunshine amongst a group of frustrated fans who know what "success" looks like. It's just to be expected. You think this is bad, just wait until the first 20 point deficit next year and see what happens to someone who dares to support Pope. Or in the first SEC game when they go into the half with 21 points. People aren't having it anymore, the fanbase needs results.

That being said, Bruce9, I was rude to you a few days ago, I apologize for that, was out of line.

And I've been banned like 50 times for just saying my opinion. Some mod calls it "spamming the board". How effin lame. Like anything I could do would even rival the spamming Herrosheros/Monday Nitro does. I make fun of the Reed Shepherd suck *** thread and I'm banned for life yet the same UNC trolls are allowed to talk **** about UK under the guise of a fan

Due to work, I have traveled some and I have been around a lot of opposing fan bases. The only times I’ve heard the phrase Kentucky “mild” Cats is from Louisville fans.
💯. No real fan pumps that.

Is Florida no longer the presumed leader if he pulls out of the draft?
Only if he doesn’t like getting the most money, and being the star of a team so he can show the scouts he can lead a franchise. They look pretty complete right now and I doubt he wants to split time with another player. He may just love Florida and want to play there though so it’s definitely a possibility.

Yeah, if he goes to Florida, they probably win a championship, but he might average 12 a game instead of the 18-19 he does here as option number one..all while making more money. Depends on what he is looking for

I think he stays in the draft or goes back to Iowa St he knows what he’s getting from TJ and offense scheme
I dunno. If he decides to return to college I think he will chase the money elsewhere. He's going to be a senior and this will be his last two years to make that kind of money. I'm sure there will be several places out there that will promise him minutes and top tier money.

So it was skill that beat Duke, Gonzaga, Florida and multiple top 25 teams in his first year. We agree.
Well to some degree, yeah, of course. That, and the age/experience of our players. We had a pretty old veteran team.

I was hyped af about beating Duke. It felt vindicating. We were all uncertain about Pope but then that win gave everybody some early hope and comfort that "everything is gonna be alright".

Then unfortunately year 2 happened, with some of the worst, most embarrassing losses in program history, horrible media interactions from our coach, rumors of locker room discontent, and constant negative recruiting.

Year 2 was his Ferrari. If he lost 14 games with his Ferrari, I still don't understand the point of Year 3.

Pope brought some tricks to the board, but like all coaches, there's always a book on them. Once the book is written, other coaches know how to counter his schemes. Pope's inability to continuously adapt and innovate is his downfall.

Agree. You’d think with him going through the draft process and getting advice on what he needs to work on, he’d want as much time on the court as he could get to show his talent, and that he’s improved his game. It’s a tough decision I’m sure, Kentucky makes a lot of sense though if he wants to show he can lead a team and be The Guy. Maybe wishful thinking on my part but realistically, it does seem like a good opportunity here.

I'd like nothing better than to see us go 26-6 and get an EE berth or better. But with this roster it will take tons of luck. Seeing Pope fall on his face in recruiting is not an encouraging sign. It's like shoving all your chips on the river and needing the last ace in the deck to pull out a win.

Herd mentality yes, the guys who take every instance and make it a negative one and its usually by fans who have only been fans during Cal's tenure. Only like a team when things is peachy. We have had two 12 loss seasons during a time when our schedule has been the hardest too. Look at years when Pitino, Tubby, Cal coached and who we played and get back to me.

Missed out on. What about Wilkins? What about Mcbride? First year he threw a team together because pretty late switching coaches. Last year we put together a team that didn't pan out. Injuries of Lowe, JQ and overpaying them two especially. That has hurt with missing out on some players this year. Using words like whiff become tik tok trends to the negative heard.
We missed out on Wright, using us for money. We missed out on Freeman who may end up injury prone. We missed out on Stokes, which should have never offered him. Having a player like Zoom over Wright when Wright won't have a guy like AJ to pass to no more should be interesting. Alex Wilkins when comparing him to a guy like Juke Harris who came from an awful Wake Forest should be something to watch for too. Ousmane and Mcbride are better than Freeman especially if Freeman gets hurt. We are missing a good wing and a good back up center. We had number 2 transfer class last year and it didn't pan out. If Pope does well and we get a couple more players everyone will be alright. If pope does bad with what we have he'll be let go. This year lots of teams spending big money and it'lll be interesting to see if it pans out. I think lots of teams will look like fools like we did last year, IMO.
Thank you for all the posts you have made in this thread,,spot on and I appreciate you pointing out the things, that any clear thinking person can see. Its so easy to criticize, Pope has had a rough landing at UK and it will work itself out one way or the other, I definitely was tired of Cal getting all the top players and going nowhere with them.

Yep. I haven't killed Pope over recruiting because the class isn't finished yet. If he gets Momcilovic or Hampton and a solid Euro big and retains MM...all doable...it will constitute a Hell of a class and a very solid team for this season

How did that look against Michigan State, Gonzaga, and Florida in his second year with a $20+ million roster?
Don't forget UGA at home and Bama. And thats still leaving out several haha.
Getting Milan would certainly change the outlook on the season. It'd at least give us some hope and it would on paper look like a team that fits Pope more. But Pope HAS to prove it this year that he can develop players and stay south of 10 losses. Idk why that is controversial for some people, should be easy to agree on that.
A lot of folks just don't see that as happening (with good reason) and they are in their right to voice their frustrations.
