Of the 38 comments mentioning Rutgers by non-Rutgers fans, every one was in a negative context and nearly all want the New Jersey-based school out of the league. Of the 18 comments by Rutgers fans, 14 were on topics other than the football program. But let’s focus on them here:

People pony up, we will eventually win it all. They don’t, we won’t. It’s pretty simple. Can’t win big without $$$.

Typical Rutgers and typical NY Times!
The one guy they quote is a total loser!!!!
Things aren’t tough enough around here.
Perception is almost everything!
No wonder people don’t want us in their league!!!

Unless Mark Cuban or someone like him is a TKR member, Al's just typing to hear himself type.

It's the same song with him no matter how many point out big NIL is coming from super wealthy individuals not a bunch of guys and gals on a team site.

What Were The Largest Individual College Sports Donations In '25?

You’re off base here.

Our NIL increased at least 100% this year over year according to Richie, so more Rutgers people are donating than ever before, though we are not where we need to be. There are plenty of wealthy people on this site, and elsewhere, even if people like to cry poverty. They just have to be willing to share their largesse with Rutgers.

Oh please. Like NW is contributing so much more to the league. Or Maryland. Or even Minnesota. An occasional 9 win season isn’t making these teams plus brands in the conference. It matters to our fan base because we’re not relevant. Whether we’re 5-7 or 8-4 doesn’t impact the other teams in the league negatively where anyone should care if we’re a part of the league or not. In football, GS hasn’t lost to anyone outside the conference in the regular season since returning so it’s not like we’ve been collecting embarrassing conference losses.

Like Mark Cuban...

Article out today re: he closed the 2.6 million dollar deal to bring Mendoza to Indiana.

Seems like bringing the #1 overall NFL draft pick into the program helped the team.

My take away from that was making the CFP in 2024 helped the team.
If they arent in that game then does Cuban/Mendoza even happen?

Seems like getting a winning coach who could win with less into the program helped the team first.
Then after they won - recruits and money followed.

Everyone jumps right to all the money and 2025 while seemingly ignoring 2024 when they were picked BEHIND Rutgers in nearly every preseason ranking.

Nobody on this board in 2024 was saying "Oh Indiana is a juggernaut with all their NIL money."
Many were saying was quite the opposite actually and that Indiana was still behind Rutgers.

Not true.
People like you keep looking for a path for Rutgers to win more without more money and it doesn’t exist. It is well documented that Cignetti told Indiana, “ I need x for my NIL budget and I need y for my coaching staff budget”. Which was a huge increase over what they were previously spending.

2024 took everyone by surprise. By the way, the 29 JMU transfers were a bigger factor in the teams success than promises of an NIL war chest. It's not like they broke the bank for those players. They followed Cignetti to Indiana because he's a winner.

How many years are you going to complain about "lack of donations" before you realize they are never coming?
When will you acknowledge that Rutgers has to find a different way.
Nobody is showing up to pay $3m for Mendoza.
That only happened AFTER Indiana made the CFP.

How much NIL did Indiana spend in 2014?
The year they were picked to finish BEHIND us?

Thanks for playing.

It’s the effin field house! If only we had a purty one…we’d be the Indiana of the east!

Bringing in the 3-4th best transfer portal quarterback and developing him into being the #1 pick is likely what helped

So , if he didnt develop from the 3rd best to 1st best QB , Indiana wouldnt have still been great last year ?

That's a strange take ??

Truly bizarre if you are blaming Greg and Kirk for QB development failure this year.

Athan was recruited over and dumped by Minnesota.

Greg and Kirk developed him into a 6th round NFL draft pick.

So yes, coaching matters and here Greg and Kirk were truly excellent in their QB development. Unfortunately, no one paid for them to get a diamond like Mendoza, so they had to work with what Rutgers could afford to pay.

No, I’m saying they didn’t bring in the #1 pick as you stated. They didn’t simply buy the best guy available. They had a great year because of coaching first

Here's a couple 2024 Big Ten media predictions.
Indiana picked 17th and a 5-7 record.

Nobody is saying money isn't needed.
Of course it is.

But it's not happening.
And its certain not happening without a "mild" breakthrough season first.
Not sure why some seem to ignore this reality.
If big donors were going to just step up they already would've.

Show me where I said anything about Greg/Kirk & Athan.

You asserted that IU went out and bought the #1 draft pick. What I and others are saying is that IU coached Mendoza into the #1 draft pick.

I’m not anti Greg like many here are and the offense the last couple years with AK has been a sight for sore eyes. Unfortunately it came with some of the most horrific defenses we’ve ever seen under GS. Cignetti coaches circles around GS any day of the week.

Some of the takes in that thread aged poorly.
