he doesn't get it at all...
They need to move off this guy ASAP. He feels more like a kindergarten teacher. This is entirely embarrassing. The whole CBB world has to be looking at this mortified.

Could you imagine Hurley or Self doing this? This guy lacks tesosterone. IDK who his PR team is but they need to be fired immediately.

Get up on a podium and answer the press like a dude.

He takes the questions about 14/20 top players visiting and not committing by answering he wants all 20 to visit. What? He could have just said he tried and couldn't close on any of them yet or something.

So, the only downside of going 0-14 in signing Top Recruits who visited Kentucky was that Pope would have preferred to go 0-20.

Now that's a level of logic that is beyond most human comprehension.

It's like playing chess with Bobby Fischer in his prime before he went batsh!t crazy. You can't hope to match his thought processes, just admire what you are witnessing...

At least he didn't promise this year's team was going to be a Ferrari on the court.

But I did think he missed a chance for an honest, but upbeat automotive comparison for the next Cats team...

Does anyone at the university of Kentucky have any idea what they’re doing? Anyone?

It’s like someone with an associates degree in finance managing a multi billion dollar trust from their bedroom. The entire university from the top down is just drifting bureaucracy concerned with land lording and that’s it. We seems to have entered an era where the gatekeepers are gone or asleep, and no one left has any idea what to do.

I hoped it was fake but Nick Roush at least seems to think it's real:

and the account at Twitter is is @CoachMarkPope with one of those Verified checkmarks. I'd like it to be fake but I'm not as confident as I'd like to be that it's really fake.
It was real unfortunately others verified before they retweeted it out

As a proud alum, I’m just embarrassed by all things UK right now. Our daughter is a sophomore and having a good experience, but even her program is jacked up and massively disorganized… as I hear is a problem with many departments. UK is just a mess on so many fronts.
But athletics can’t be more of a mess. Their PR department must be the most tone deaf in history. Who suggested this for Pope? It’s comically bad at this point. Also, it took a partisan governor to ramp up the heat to foil the Mitch sweetheart deal. Mitch’s defensive presser at his retirement announcement was unnecessary and petty.
We need new leadership, vision and common sense.

He says he wished he got all 20 to visit. And then says they spent too much time on stokes and lost out on others. Thats taking accountability and half of yall are only focused on him wanting to get all 20 to visit. Y’all wanted answers. He’s giving answers and yall are still pissed.

Also I noticed since Mark took over, he’s made it a point to project concern for the fanbase in ways that seem manufactured. From the beginning, it’s been a game of misdirection. “Look at how much I embrace you compared to Calipari’s last 5 years. Don’t pay attention to recruiting, coaching, program stability, or on court success.

As Mitch said, “winning is important, but” and “Mark will help find our way back to our heart”

This has been a 100% control hire and gaslighting campaign from day one. This was never about correcting the program, this was about Mitch Barnhart maintaining power and control, and keeping us asleep while he moved into his new seat and implemented the JMI scandal. The administration wanted no one paying attention to the program, no signs of any trouble at all, which is why they won’t do what 100% of the other programs are doing if it’s not by an old rule book. This is about silently adapting to JMI, inside deals, and corruption.

This is about giving the appearance of clean, while they give themselves millions in incentives and made up jobs.

The university needs to be cleaned out, and the basketball program needs to be rebuilt I’m afraid.

I don't get people blaming KSR for Pope posting to Twitter. There were threads here and noise elsewhere before KSR even recommend it last week. Rick Barnes apparently went on tour across Tennessee taking to the fans post season.

If I had to guess, People don't agree with Matt politically and just blame KSR for literally everything.
Rick Barnes actually has some good portal players coming so of course he doesn’t mind seeing the fans.

He said he went to Slovenia and Milan as well as Israel. I haven’t looked, but I wonder what players are there. Cremona is a very specific place to randomly mention.
Maybe he was in Cremona to see N'Diaye in person?

But in Pope's defense, if he knew how to change recruiting to land more players, he would have already done it. He just doesn't know.
Then him and all the assistants should be fired if nobody is 1 reading the room and body language of players and agents and 2 asking agents what the deal is especially if we are offering more money with same minutes. Is it the coaches, offense, the campus WHAT!!!

"We were chasing a generational talent. We fell a little short."

Just prepare for him to say this every year he's at UK until he gets fired. This dude is never landing an elite freshman.

Never.
Never.
Never.
It was never going to happen. Other sec programs notice the hire and went into immediate “destroy mark pope mode” and took advantage of all his mistakes and early stumbles. They buried him in the recruiting trail early on. He’s got no chance to rebound from that. His background is too bad, and his situation is too risky. There’s no way in this business to rebuilt it and become something else. Yes, an absolute. It cannot happen. 0% chance and those of us who’ve done this a very long time understand it. The Facebook fan page moms do not.

So what basically everyone here expected to happen, happened, and Pope was seemingly the only one who didn’t realize it until it was too late, and what. You want people to be happy about that?

He can’t keep putting all his eggs in one basket and walking away empty handed, and he is unlikely to get another chance to do so.

I don’t need him to tell me he spent too much time focused on Stokes and missed out on others because of it. That was brutally obvious. I want him to tell me why he continues to make that mistake and what he will change going forward.
