"Ah....Iowa went to the Elite 8 and has a coach everyone is talking about?

That's neat.....Imma go to West Virginia. Or Nebraska. Or Kansas. Or Texas Tech. Or Colorado. Or Florida State. Or Wake Forest. Or Providence.

Because money and playing time and all sorts of other f***ing excuses."

"I like watching what Iowa did.....but they're not for me."

Signed every difference maker of a potential recruit or transfer.

But hey, as long as we keep "coachin' em all up", eventually just one of these years we'll finally overcome an Illinois or a UConn or a Michigan that has better rosters than us. You just wait and see!! Amirite or amirite? 😃😃😃

F*** outta here with these kids and their easily unimpressed perception of Iowa. Apparently, winning isn't the f***ing problem. 🤷‍♂️

P.S. and it's not just men's basketball, but I don't feel like making this rant any longer or off topic.

Doing their work early.

Have I got this right? A 2 year deal. He'll get $4.8 million for playing HS basketball. During that period of time he won't be able to help Duke win any games or help the team in any way. He's not old enough to drink or vote - barely old enough for a drivers license. $4.8 million.

He just signed the equivalent of getting a $250,000 a year job for 40 years (using a discount rate of 4%). Of course, instead of supporting a family of 4 or 5 he lives at home and has practically no expenses.

The people will argue he's providing a very important community service.

I'm balancing that with, a model, or influencer, or whatever stupid modern "things" there are today.

But "model" for now.

Someone who looks the part genetically, or whatever. But has zero skills, lazy, throw in all the rest of the negative qualities. But, brain dead people provide lots of views, or whatever justifies their uprising economic fortune.

Maybe a bad example, but yea..

If a basketball player, with the genetics - yes, but also had to work to attain what's needed. If they are able to make that kind of coin (for now..), I have less of a problem at least than a model / influencer who lives on Tik Tac and provides .. zero value really.

Is that legal giving money to a kid still in high school? The whole point of NIL is to pay players through private deals for their college play and schools should only pay players who are playing for them, not in high school. This crap stinks ever more
Arkansas (where I live) recently approved a law to make it legal for kids who have committed to an in-state school to accept NIL payments while they are still in high school.

Within the past week, I have heard an Arkansas high school coach advising players to give a verbal commitment to the Razorbacks, just so they can accept NIL payments for 12-18 months, and then flip to another school, if desirable.

What a f’ed up system.

Lack of leadership at any level in the NCCA. Unless you make a phone call a few hours before you’re supposed to and you are mid-level program then they slam their good for nothing book at you.

But somehow this won’t be an issue but Iowa self-reporting talking to an injured qb prior to him officially entering the portal is worthy of vacating wins.

The legal rulings were much broader.

basically nobody has the right to stop one party from paying another party money for goods and services. You may think the “goods and services” are a joke but the legal system doesn’t care.

they could record a PSA on YouTube if that would make some people feel better.

nobody would care if the person getting paid didn’t play sports.

Go find me a kid at the University of Iowa that's getting paid 2 million for something like you just mentioned.

I would guess some college girls are doing quite well on Onlyfans.

Doesn’t matter. Because it would be legal. Only thing that upsets you about it is your TV watching.

it’s never changing. Never. Nobody in their right might would even attempt to put forward a piece of legislation. Because what you want is a committee of people to decide how much something is worth. That isn’t happening in the United States. Especially when it doesn’t involve anything but entertainment. We are not talking about food/medicine.

if rich idiots get a boner giving money to kids so they can drive a Corvette to practice so be it.

I get it. And yes, it's just above board now. The problem being is there is no end in sight, and even though the B1G is splitting up several billion dollars to the schools we just continue to claim we can't fund the Olympic sports and there is no end in sight to the football arms race. Basically it's just another level of pro sports but we already have pro sports. I know there's been underhanded **** going on since the beginning of time and players throwing games for money for a long time. And no court is going to get involved as you say to change it now.

Yup and I just don’t care. It’s rich people blowing their money.

maybe the Olympic sports are destined to DIII. Why should a track athlete get state of the art facilities just because the football team makes money.

I think if a school only wants to have 3-4 sports they should be able to. It’s ridiculous Iowa supports a made up sport like Crew. It’s also ridiculous for sports that bleed money to fly out to Oregon or New Jersey to play just because the football team makes money.

NIL deals a written contracts. I would like to review the rights, obligations, and terms of these legal agreements. I suspect that they are not as loose as currently talked about. How restrictive are they? NIL contracts, any restrictive/punitive provisions, have not been widely litigated.

In Arkansas, like most states, the legal age to enter a contract is 18. Parents negotiating on behalf of the minor can complicate matters and may present subsequent legal problems in the event of future dispute. The risk is with the schools IMO.

Just so you know. It happens all the time in the United States. In fact, it happens 100's of times a day.

Nope. It has to do a lot with the equal rights amendment. Even if the University of Iowa only had three male sports, football, basketball and wrestling, they would still be required to have close to an equal number of females engaged in sports. Thus, there would be multiple Olympic sports for females at the University.

Maybe the revenue sports should just split off from the university. Then the other sports can be poor together.

now that pure greed and capitalism has entered the room unchecked I suspect change will be happening for quite a while.

Equal numbers doesn’t mean equal travel. That notion will surely be challenged as budgets tighten.

I suspect the minimum number of sports required to call yourself D1 will drop at some point.

if Iowa State football collapses financially. It will take down a lot of sports at the school.

You think? That's going out on a limb. Besides the B1G and the SEC, and at this point I'm guessing schools like Purdue, Rutgers, we know UCLA, Maryland will all be in trouble soon. And probably schools like Mississippi ST, Kentucky, Arkansas also will soon be facing problems. Are we going to have 15-20 schools playing football turning a profit? You in for that? Actually it might be ok because then the whole system will come crashing down.

A number of people have made that comment about the teams splitting from the schools. An entire different quagmire there. So WHO are they then? Not the Iowa Hawkeyes. There a club team at that point. Where do they play? Not in Kinnick or Carver. If so I guess the University would bleed the hell out of them and grab a bunch of that revenue, not to mention tickets sales, concessions etc. Part of the revenue as we've found out is sponsorship deals. You know like media com on the basketball floor, and Deere on the field at Kinnick. Well that revenue belongs to the University's athletic dept, which they'd be splitting away from. Do they still have the same following of loyal fans(which do play into the $$) if they split from the school? We haven't even got into the media rights deal itself. The deal is with the conference, correct? The conference is run by the University Presidents and their boards. The money is dispersed to the conference office and then filtered to the schools athletic departments. No doubt there's a very wordy contract on all this. Except the club teams no longer belong to the University or its athletic dept. Without question its anybody's guess where we go from here, but its highly unlikely anything happens in the next 9 years or until the current Media rights deal is up, and I don't see them striking out on their own as club teams.

But it does. Schools need to provide female and male students with comparable facilities, training and opportunities. As long as the sports are associated with the School, all things need to be defendable as equal. I predict within the next 12 months, you are going to see a lawsuit that force Schools to spend equal amounts of NIL monies on male and female sports
