I think its quiet appalling that no one really talked about last season yet, including Pope.

Zero statements.

The only thing we got on Pope is that we won't miss on recruiting (Absolutely Clueless) and some random plane tweet.

Does it bother you?

Whatā€™s he going to say, Iā€™ve greatly failed this offseason and Iā€™m all but assured on my way out of whatā€™s likely going to be one of the worst seasons in UK history. I donā€™t get the MB golden parachute, he earned millions in the job, yet he still needs to be given more, anyone that donates a single penny to the university given this situation is a fool, IMO.

I don't think Pope became over comfortable and complacent. There is no indication to prove that. Cal is a good example of that, not Pope. What is evident about Pope is that he never had the capabilities within him to be Kentucky's coach from the very beginning. His record proves that while he's UK coach and prior. Not to mention he can't recruit.

Is there anything he could say that would make us feel better about the current state of the program?

Anything he did say would get bashed by many fans anyways as either clueless or disingenuous. A UK coach who ainā€™t winning canā€™t do anything right in the eyes of most of the BBN.

If you lose the PR battle, youā€™ve already lost, UNLESS you can just go win and win huge. (See Dan Hurley, Todd Golden). You canā€™t lose the PR battle, put an entirely mediocre team on the court, overpay/underperform, AND whiff on every recruit you try to get.

Honestly, this next season is kind of pointless.

What bothers me is that we continue to miss on almost anyone we are targeting and the fact we have only 1 hs recruit coming because we hired his dad is very concerning to me. I wonā€™t go in to the odd & strange behavior from our coach after games this past season along with game plans that make zero sense but the fact that this program is where it is currently has to be the most concerning issue of allā€¦ā€¦..and it seems no one is upset about it except us the fans.

Mitch clearly doesn't care because he made the hire and now he's on his way out.

I think if we can hire an outside hire who is a good AD, that cares and will clean house would be great.

Yeah, we see it being ignored. We see how tweets from Dear Leader crying about press conferences getting more attention than football habitually beating top programs for really good recruits.

I answered "somewhat", only because I am a junkie for UK MBB. That said, it is not out of character for a coach and staff to have been quiet at this point in the cycle. Plus, it would all be word salad and no substance...so not really jonesing for that.

I really just want wins, not words!

No coaches are making statements about their rosters yet. Coaches won't start talking about it until rosters are more set. Likely towards end of this month.

Right. There is nothing to say. He's trying to goad someone into coming onto the show.

Maybe once the roster is set have something. Before that, there is nothing to say.

I said somewhat because a little transparency would be nice.

Maybe a ā€œLast season didnā€™t got way we envisioned, but we are working to _________.ā€

Although on the flip side, a statement like that would just drive the negative fans into hysteria, so maybe silence is better.

Now that I have learned most coaches also havenā€™t been talking to the media, it seems like not that big of a deal. And as others have said, at this point, talk is cheap. Give us results.

the college basketball season isnt even a month old. pope did a coaches show on mar 24th. KSR just butt hurt for not having access any more. did the same with cal the last few years. coaches dont give weekly updates. and if he did.....what would he say?
  • we are working on the roster
  • we like the pieces we have
  • last year didnt go our way
  • we are excited about next year
  • need to be better
none of that moves the needle. pope sucks and is failing. but this is a non issue.

I would highly suggest against Pope tweeting, but he does need to hold a presser or go on a radio show that isn't apart of the JMI gravy train.

Like I said in the other thread, I have no idea why people are always wanting to hear from Pope every time something happens. He never says anything worth listening to so what's the point

Pope needs to make a stronger statement to counteract the "improvement" narrative from March.

Something like, "Last season was horrible. Even with the injuries, we weren't prepared, didn't play for each other, our talent level was lacking, and my substitution patterns were erratic. Here's what we are going to do differently this year: __________. This season, the only measure of success will be a Final Four and I will make no excuses. Dusty May did it in only 2 seasons. We need to win now, not later."

I think fans would respond well if they know he actually sees the problems and has a plan to fix them.

i'm sure this is what you want to hear. but no coach at any level in any sport talks like this. and even if he did....it would not change what is going to happen next season.

By all accounts, even the perpetual harpies admit as much, Pope has been working his arse off since the end of the season. The fact he has not discussed the roster is probably due to the fact he is hoping to add to it. I suspect we get a presser as we get closer to the NBA draft. Matt Jones is on the outside now. He does not really know much more about the current events of the staff than any of the posters here. His tweets seem to be an attempt to coerce or leverage a Pope comment. Itā€™s April. Those who complain will complain. That is evident as the Harpies respond.

The fact that UK media has been focusing on football is because ā€¦ spring effing practice you dipweeds. LOL

Feels like hes hiding but I don't want to hear him speak anyway. I spent last season saying how I can't stand to hear him talk. Cal was the used car salesmen. Pope is the guy on Facebook marketplace saying runs good needs motor.
