You aren't telling the truth, you are giving an opinion. Its not a fantasy to think we could be good
Okay Chief. One truth is money. How much are you willing to lose? Because you will lose. Odds are we won’t even make the tournament at this rate. I’d love to make a wager with you about something. You game?

If everyone reaches max potential. We might finish 4th in the SEC and maybe reach the sweet 16. But, that’s if everything goes perfect.

It just sucks. We're Kentucky, this is not what we do or expect. I think we have a very narrow window to correct things, otherwise we are going to become Indiana.
There are multiple programs that either waited too long or whiffed on coaches during this really sensitive NIL/portal period where top programs have firmed up their brand & relationships with agents.

Villanova - lost a ton of steam with Neptune
Indiana - good lord they screwed the pooch waiting an extra year on their terd, when they could have had Dusty. TBD on Devries, but it looks a bit flat.
UK - here we are
UNC - the alumni hire is just not the way to go anymore.

Teams that did it right - UM got lucky and snagged May, who is looking like a top 3 coach in the sport. He gets it - precise, has his script, smart and innovative. Scheyer can recruit his balls off - yet TBD on whether he execute on it, but he's gotten close and feels on the cusp. Golden has created a big recipe that is working. Hurley is the best balance of it all, runs a system that is unique and attracts his kind of players. As someone said, they are like the Nick Saban lead Bama of CBB, culture and precision.

I need someone to really prove to me they can jump in and over those 4. I don't think Sampson's system is designed for the Portal. I don't think Pitino can wipe out his roster every year and rebuild and win the whole thing. Izzo, Painter don't use the portal enough and are still try to build with 4 starts.

It's kind of hard tobelieve UNC did it twice. Happy Indiana was too dumb to grab May. Hope like hell we can recover soon, otherwise we are done.

Yeah, I'm trying to figure out which coach outside of the the top 4 right now can win a title. I think it's a really small group that has that kind of potential.

I'm not convinced Kelsey can, at all. Barnes has Elite 8 ceiling.

One guy that I think can is Oats - if he gets the right players. His system is a little mechanical.

I don’t blame anyone who is anti-Pope for being excited about this year. That’s my point.

Pro-Pope -> Excited about Pope proving himself to the fanbase

Anti-Pope -> Excited about him exiting the stage.

(I’d contend it isn’t necessary to call him a dope. You can 100% think he isn’t the right man for the job and avoid calling him that.)

But there’s plenty for all Kentucky fans to be excited about. It’s a big year either way.
He's a dope. And poop. And a dork. And whifffffffff. If Pope doesn't like it, he can so something about it (an actual recruit would be nice to start with).

Hard to say. My interest and enthusiasm have decreased greatly as this has all become a minor league sports venture.

Positive for me -- the way this offseason is going, the more it's looking like I will get a C-Note courtesy of KYFOSSIL once UK goes winless in the SECT

Im pretty sure he’s trying, man. It’s not his fault he got offered a great job. I think it’s ok to be frustrated but man, he is more than just a coach for us, he’s a former player and a captain of our greatest national championship team ever. You’d think people would be able to be frustrated and call out the poor performance without attacking the man’s intelligence and whatnot. I just don’t see how anyone could think that’s right.

My only beef with him is his stupid press conferences. I've never once heard him admit he is doing something wrong. All he does is double down.

You can't improve if you don't acknowledge you are doing it wrong.

No other beef with him personally.

I am excited about Pope leaving but I am not excited about watching or following next season. Big difference.

Why is that your opinion ? Please repeat
Let me ask you this - if you are this close to heading to the NBA, and that is what is important to you, why would you come play for Pope & UK in your last year? He is going to go play for a coach that is going to set him up for success, and will give him a crisp game plan with great players around him. He is not the type of player that is going to carry a team - he is catch and shoot, needs to be part of a system that makes him look great.

That is not Uk. If he comes back, would not be surprised if it's May.

Players back out because of money . Unbelievable you don’t know this . Lots of players like Hough are backing out to make millions more in college . Milan would get 1 million not guaranteed from the NBA . He will get 5 million from UK . It’s the smart move.

Im positive we are going to suck.
No you're not. We haven't played a game yet. You or I have ZERO clue as to how the next season plays out. I will reserve judgement until we have a few games under our belt. I particularly like the roster and feel it's already better than last season but how can anyone really speak about it until we tip it off?

Put up or shut up, I’ll bet whatever you want we have at least 10 losses, and don’t make the elite 8 or better? Anything less, I think sucks.

It’ll be the last we are stuck with Pope. That’s the biggest positive there is.

I know one thing, the next hire has to be a home run. No if or ands about it. Has to be.
Exactly! That’s why I can’t believe some people on here suggest Jai Lucas as the next coach. Lucas is a guy you maybe take a chance on after Cal but not 3+ bad Pope years on top of numerous bad Cal years. Lucas may be a good coach but the next coach can’t be hired on a maybe. It has to be a sure thing, someone like a Hurley/Oats that you know at the very least will put UK back in final fours.

I’m 38 and I remember thinking in 2007 that it felt like an eternity since we’d been any good but this current stretch is even worse. We went 14 years between titles #7-8 but we are at 15 years now since #8 and there’s not a snowballs chance in hell that we come remotely close to a title this year.

We already have a better roster for Pope’s style of play. More shooting. Let's hope this squad can get along. Team chemistry wasn't good last season.

I am not convinced we cannot be a pretty good team, but I think we have to get a high-quality starter, a rebounding power forward and a back-up center.
We need a few more pieces. Hopefully, we can get them.

Have you not caught onto the trends my friend? You think the most highly sought after player in the portal, who is eagerly positioning to get drafted, is going to say, UK is the place I want to ink my NBA future on? Do you know basketball at all?

Basketball program has a Chip Kelly feel to it now. Look at that coach’s career. Dont want another coach that just tries to bring yesterday back. Loved Pope as a player but his best was as a player for Pitino. Esoteric verbalization and ideation doesn’t motivate or guarantee success. Just want to get through next season and hope upon hope we will find a highly skilled coach and motivator next time around.

"If your expectations aren't to be the best, then... you know, nobody rises to low expectations." ~ Chip Kelly
