We need hidden camera footage of what Pope does on these recruiting visits. He must be the most off-putting dude imaginable. Not entirely sure how he managed to coach so long prior to this without developing that reputation. Maybe instead of hiring buddies, he should have hired a stone-cold killer on the recruiting trail to be the closer (or actually pondered keeping Antigua on board two year ago for that same purpose).

If he did offer him, did he promise him the kind of playing time he can get at LSU? Did he promise he'd start? Who offered the most $?

-Santos is from a different country and Mark Pope's attempt to talk about the UK tradition will mean even less.
-LSU has PLENTY of room to promise minutes playing time and NIL.
-Will Wade is a better coach. He's done more at 43 than Mark Pope has at 53.
-Wade recently hired Rick Stansbury and Johnny Jones as assistants. Stansbury is known to be a really good recruiter and Jones has coached a lot of NBA players. Pope has neither going for him.

That was the old Southern Conference era. There were 19 teams in the conference at that time. Kentucky was actually 0-5 in conference play. They were 3-10 overall.

About the only place that probably hasn't heard of Pope yet is North Sentinel Island in the Indian Ocean. I don't think he wants to do any recruiting there though.

Do you actually know enough about Santos to determine that? Is it possible that after seeing him in person it was decided he was not actually any better than Potter?

The euroleague is legit. If he's a backup in that he is at least serviceable. He is also a completely different type of player than Potter
Pope needs to learn to not play around with these lowe level players. If he flies to Israel to give you money to be a backup bench player you tell them they take it now or you are going to move on and you let people know back in Kentucky media that you are moving on. You can't go through all the trouble of scouting and travelling for a mid level player just so an opposing coach can outbid you days later with no work and make it look like a recruiting win over you.
Well, I’ll concede that I’ve not seen either play in anything other than internet clips. Which I assume is true for almost everyone here.
But I do know this: Santos is a seasoned pro who has held his own against Euro League level competition and is being pursued by multiple high major programs. Potter, on the other hand, wasn’t good enough to start at a little mid major MAC program and had to come here on a walk on/redshirt type deal.
So based on that, I feel rather safe assuming that Santos is better than Potter.
I would assume Pope didn’t fly over there to not give him an offer. He could not offer over Zoom.
