No reason for Ross to redshirt. He’ll compete for the title next season. Plus with a chance of 5 years to compete becoming a reality why waste one of your 5 years on a redshirt.
Yes, if that new five year rule is passed there is no reason for anyone to redshirt, ever. He might take his lumps but it will be great experience.

...five years eligibility with four years to compete in
...five years begin after high school graduation or 19 in age...nothing excused for most......the exceptions are: military, religious mission and something else I forgot...do not know about effect (if passed...?) on current rosters in any sport-any grandfathered?

Ross could sit out 1st year and wrestle years 2-5 or any other combination...........

What effect does 1st and 2nd semesters have on "life span"? Could you take one semester one year and a different one a different calendar year?

Could you just wrestle in 5 second semesters and three firsts? Could summer(s) school be counted in some additional way?

Maybe since it will be the last time they ever have to worry about it and no longer have to care about precedent, the NCAA will throw their hands up for guys like Doucett who are seeking a hail mary medical shirt.

Are you sure?
He's 100 percent right.... and nobody benefits from this more than a team with 3 true freshman national champs that got an extra year overnight.

Other than the rewiring of my brain towards the next generation being full of 5 timers vs 4 timers, I'm not sure what the downside really is. Freshman getting 5 starts without losing their RS put us halfway there already and I think teams will be more competitive because they aren't incentivized to RS someone because of what the next year looks like at individual weights or the team competition.

As long as Ross can gain the weight he'll be ready. Its been discussed other places with some shrugging it off like he'll magically put on 20lbs with proper food and training. I really really hope that happens but If thats all it took then Ben Keuter would be a SOLID 250 by now lol.

And the fact that most HWTs end the season 10 lbs below where they started it's so hard to maintain the weight training as hard as they do in season. I see lots of weigh in sheets and it happens with most HWTs under 250

You forgot to include beer to your list. I blew past my freshman 15 before the end of the first semester.

Doesn't the 19 YO clock start preclude people like Brandon Weeden from competing?

I would suppose that would exclude the time off for those who went on missions and the like but probably not to try another sport.
