Really? Taking up for Calipari? Calipari sucks as a coach. He’s the best at getting elite talent. He’s pissed away so many talented rosters with his **** coaching. He also spent his last years mocking our fans, our State, and our tradition. He’s trash.

Just stop the ridiculous slobber fest with loser Calipari.
Saying John Calipari would have Kentucky better off than Mark Pope isn’t “slobbering.” It’s funny you “slobber” all over the guy that is on par with Billy Gillespie and is in over his head in every thread, but badmouth a coach that actually won a national title here.

You also talk about him mocking our fans and tradition. You started a thread yesterday about how since 1958 Kentucky basketball isn’t special. So why do you care if he mocks a tradition not all that special? You clearly hold it in SUCH high regard. Also funny your reasoning is because only 4 titles since 58. Titles decide all, but you’re literally tearing down a coach that actually won one of them 😂

Relax Chief. Pay attention. I already said it was stupid for me to make that post. I’m just not a fan of Calipari. I’ve made my reasons clear why I’m not a fan of his. I have said NUMEROUS times that Calipari is the greatest Coach of alltime of building the best rosters. Again, pay attention. I’ll also say again, that he sucks as a coach.

How many ******* times do I have to apologize for starting a stupid thread? Tell me. 1000 more times? 2000 more times? How many? I’m sorry I’m not as perfect as you.

Cal stayed 5 years too long. If he left after 10 his legacy would've been completely different here and ppl would be dreaming of him the way the fantasize about Rick, but he was absolute garbage his last 5 yrs.
Rick was struggling to recruit and got out at the right time. People act like Pipe loses to Duke and UNC, but Rick repeatedly lost in recruiting to one or the other. I think Tubby was uniquely qualified to take the team left by Rick to the NC. I don’t think Rick thought that was a championship team and recruiting was a real issue. He got out at the right time and fans who over look his incredible personal foibles, foibles that damaged UL, see him as just a great coach had Cal left as you say, people would not be mentioning Rick today as a possible replacement for Pope but would be really pining for Cal.

"We" didn't hire anybody. 99% of the fanbase including KSR and the national media said "Why tf are you hiring Mark Pope?" This is Mitch Barnhart.
The same 99 percent that showed up at his giant presser/pep rally? Something motivated them to show up.

He figured it out last year. SEC Champion
Let’s not pretend that didn’t fall in his lap. It absolutely did. Florida wanted nothing to do with that tournament they left on their own. By the time the team that wanted to be there were left, there was no option but Calipari. And he wanted it (after saving he cares nothing about it for years) because it’s all he’ll ever win there. Calipari is washed, and you don’t hire Pope. It’s pretty simple.

2 things can be true.

Cal and UK needed to separate.
Pope should've never been the replacement.

Oh and Mitch is the worst thing to ever happen to Kentucky basketball..... So I guess 3 things can be true simultaneously
Agreed by most I would assume!

I was livid when we hired Pope. Absolutely livid. Was eating in Tolly Ho with my wife and kids and absolutely lost my mind. I thought it was a twitter joke some kind of bullsht. I was also sitting down low for the presser and recorded the entire thing. Reason? Because all I could do was give it a chance after a few days. Just like everyone else.

I have explained over and over there are MORE issues with pope than are being listed. He is done at UK and should have never been hired. You can accept it or don’t. His firing is coming.

We are a bit more attached to basketball than most fanbases, but saying it is our fault is just dumb.
EVERY big program has some crazies, heck I have even said things I regret but it mostly has to do with how much I care or want to win.

I doubt we moved the needle one way or another more than 1 percent. If anything we moved it to guys wanting to play for a fanbase that will show up and cheer.

Stop looking at the few uncles/dads or crazy agents wanting to point fingers because their kid either refuses to play or didn't get what they thought they "deserved." I mean these people are looking for a payday, fame and fortune and when it doesn't happen do you think they are just going to accept responsibility? Heck no - they will start pointing fingers SO fast it will make your head spin.
And us being more than normally attached or a coach that has had some bad luck in injuries and team comps is an easy out for them. I don't care for Pope, but us and him are less at fault than most of these soft players and their inner circles.

But is it a very passionate fanbase? get real imo

I didn’t know you had said that already about the thread. You don’t have to apologize at all. Case in point this thread I started. Also a stupid thread

Pope is the same loser that he was before being hired at KY. Cal screwed himself with Nike and the fans and ultimately the boosters.Unwillingness to change to a modern style of basketball and promised playingtime sunk his ship.

It’s Barnhart’s job to keep the boosters in line and he failed. What does that say to possible future coaches if your AD allowed such pettiness among the booster class?
Keep them in line while keeping their wallets open how?

Say you were a generous billionaire, how would some college functionary dictate how you spend your money?

Heck, how can he make you come off twenty bucks now?

Partly the fans. Pope isn’t a bad coach imo. He has a horrible pitch and he believes in it which makes it worse.. “As a player wouldn’t you want to play on the biggest stage???” The answer is no. It’s generational. Stokes didn’t come here because he knew he would have been seeing competition and game planning every night in the SEC. He chose the big 12 because it’s a less competitive conference top to bottom. he can perform in and continue raise his draft stock. With Kentucky you get a very athletic conference and a massive target on your back. Kansas has a big spotlight also. But you aren’t running a gauntlet schedule. Every other conference has cup cake games in league play. Not Kentucky. You don’t play Florida twice in the big 12. 5 stars know Kentucky can make or break your draft stock so if they are getting the same money else where then Why risk it? Take the path of least resistance. Popes pitch is the opposite of that. It’s play at one of the hardest places to play in college because it willl Make you better. These young kids, they ain’t built like that anymore. Weak mentality. That’s why the only people
Jumping at this program right now are mid major players looking to prove themselves after being overlooked.

This is Mitchs fault . He hired a coach with zero history of success to coach the biggest program in college basketball.

Theres a reason why most our hearts sank when Pope was announced . The rally erased that an provided the feel goods but we knew instantly this was a terrible hire . Just took a few years to accept it . Now with everything in flux no idea how to fix it.
