So, if this is a bottom 5 roster in the SEC and Kentucky finishes significantly better than bottom 5, should we declare that Pope did a great job coaching?
I totally understand that many (if not most) people think the roster, as constructed so far, will produce a team that is not as good as last year.
Before last season, I was convinced that last year's team would not be as good as Pope's first team. I just didn't see it, despite the investment.
Right now, I'm not sure about the team we have. I see the possibility that it could be about the same as this past year's team.
I'm thinking there may be better scoring distribution, but I especially worry about the rebounding and depth components ... so, we'll see.
Having said all of that, absent 1-2 quality starters being added, I do not think this team can win the conference or the conference tourney.
I assume we will lose at least ten (10) games, but will make the NCAA tournament. How we'll do in that, I have no idea.
If you held a gun to my head ... right now, I'd probably come up with predictions like 23-13 and 9-9 in the conference ... just a guess.
I'm hopeful, but not optimistic, that Pope can land some high-level talent with his last recruiting pitches, We'll know soon enough ,,,

Will Wade will end up with a more talented roster than UK this season. Mark it down. He has several players locked up ready to sign all at once.
There’s still faint hope. Landing either Joksimovic or Momcilivic would have a huge impact dramatically changing the way this roster looks.

Strong chance he sticks in the draft, and if he comes back the last place he's coming is to this hot mess of a roster. He'll want a beautifully carved out vacancy in a good system with the right players around him.
Pope isn't landing any big fish - need to get over that.
Is Jordan Burks a possibility ?? Is he being considered ... just curious ?? He had a pretty good season this year, I think ...

Lol, what makes your post any different? You're claiming we will stay in the top 25 with an incomplete roster. Yeah, that's not any more ridiculous.
Calling our team trash before they ever play a game is a suck *** thing to do. We have some damn good quality players and they're gonna do better than you think but bottom line is they are part of our team now, trash just makes you look like a punk.
It's a middle of the road SEC roster.
It's safe to say he's not adding anyone that is going to move the needle. They're either gone or not coming.
His best bet was to be the first to squeeze the euro market.
He did represent UK well.

You say this with only hope and the unwillingness to see the solar system wide red warning flag waving right at you. Pope has never had less than 10 losses other than when Covid was hitting at its worst and without Covid those would have been 10 loss seasons. We dont have a single player for next year that had less than 13 losses this recent season.
WHo on the freaking team has any idea what it takes to do their job at a top winning level? (not pope knowing how to do it as a player or Mo williams, they arent playing, they are coaching and dont know how to do it at a high level)

Delusion and cockeyed optimism from some of you does not replace the realism of Mark Pope looking like an amateur on the elite stage of college basketball. In time he will show that he's wasting time trying to act like he knows what he's doing.
The writer of the article is barely out of diapers, grew up in Connecticut and lives in Sarasota while writing for UF. He briefly wrote for TCP, probably has an axe to grind and almost assuredly was motivated to write that article from some of the clowns here.

I'll give you an honest answer but first I'll have a question. How is this roster garbage? You have two highly regarded guards. I can play or two or the point guard. They are packed by two solid guards, granted one as a freshman, but the other has played in the P5 conference and choose the three ball well. They have Cam Williams before his injury. He had a game where he made eight three-pointers and his defense and rebound. He was improving that to mention his great height or his position.. Malachi is already a second round draft contender at center. It should only get better as a sophomore.. our power forward from Africa gives great height and length and good mobility plus maturity. Hawthorne is an unknown. I'll grant that.. McBride is a good shooting strong yeah undersized forward that gives him some muscle that we didn't have before and shooting. Plus, we'll see the other two or three people we get.. how in anybody's world is that garbage that's a solid team but I agree it's not a championship level team.
so a group of decent role players/backups with 1 legitimately good player in Wilkins. and zero depth. that's a garbage roster.
what happens if Wilkins has a bad game? what happens if Moreno gets injured? this is gonna get ugly. just my prediction
If we have good guards that can handle the ball and attack the rim I'll feel better. I just really don't have a clue about any of these guys. I can sit and watch highlights all day but that doesn't tell me much.
If they have great ball handling skills and can knock down open threes then maybe Pope can do something with them. Idk maybe they all have underdog mentality.
I'll support them when the season starts. They've done nothing for me to talk bad about. I won't say anything about the players yet. I will say something about Pope tho. But even him I'm trying to give a fair shot and not dog him with every post. Just want UK to be good at the end of the day. Maybe these players click.
In the first place, we have depth in both the power forward and guard positions and to be honest, we have depth on the wing too. We need another big Quality wing.

Didn’t talk about the players personally, didn’t even talk about reality. Reading comprehension isn’t a strong suit in some. If you go back and read carefully; take your time, it says “on paper”. And guess what, on paper our ranking is embarrassing and way below what Kentucky has been in years and years. Tell me about all the games you have watched these new players play. I love how the Pope allegiance seems to stand by these players with full confidence and I’d bet my arm that no one has watched more than one full game of any new player that has signed for Kentucky. Truth is none of us know, we can only go by the precious analytics that Pope so dearly depends on.
Moreno was unplayable the last 1/3 of the season and now people think he is the next Boogie Cousins. He couldn’t rebound, couldn’t guard a high ball screen, couldn’t protect the rim. People have a lot of confidence in summer improvement I guess. Will he be better, probably. Will he get two quick fouls most games? Probably. Do we have a back up even close? Nope.
The level of Pope hate? Yeah, I absolutely do. Pretty much everyone including myself was ready for him to be fired. It didn't happen and there is a zero percent chance it happens before next season ends. So why not get behind the team and hope that they have a great season and he EARNS the right to stay? If he doesn't, I believe he will be gone. So why dog him out 24/7 till then?
Currently ESPN has at least 8 teams in the SEC ranked above us. This only goes down to top 30 so it’s not a stretch for an reporter, young or not to say UK is bottom 5.

Once again reading: at the end I clearly said. “Truth is, none of us know” But I know enough to not trust highlights. My high school daughter is an average tennis player but I could whip up a video that made her look like Coco Gauff. All I can tell you is analytics and these players are ranked lower than other SEC rosters.
