Which four basketball players over the years would you have on your Kentucky Mount Rushmore? It's a tough one to think about.

- Dan Issel
- Jamal Masburn
- Tayshaun Prince
- Jack Givens

Here's one to noodle on: Pat Riley

18th all time scorer. Coaching legend, NBA exec legend. NBAC as a player. Hard to ignore all that. He's iconic.

Issel is a no brainer. Mashburn is a no brainer.

One year Davis is tough. Tony Delk screams UK, has a title and is an AT leading scorer.

Issel
Riley
Mashburn
Delk

Davis 5

Healthy post, for once.

It’s hard to just pick 4 because even though Kentucky is the greatest program of all time, we’ve had very few players that have been like insane superstars. They’re also needs to be more criteria involved because there’s so many things different players do and mean for the program.
If you’re simply saying pick 4 players that should be recognized as the 4 most meaningful players ever, then there’s no way I could out a one and done on there. Staying on campus for 6 months should automatically disqualify you.

Anthony Davis has to be on there no question. No disrespect to any players before him but AD has one of the best college careers ever. As a one and done playing 30 something games.

Mitch Barnhart
Joker Philips
Billy Clyde Gillispie
Mark Pope

Honorable Mention

Shaedon Sharp
Jayden Quaintance
Alex Legion
Daniel Orton
Daniel ortin don't deserve that. The guy played. Even comes back around Rupp quite often. I never understood the Orton hate on here either.didnt he even play in the la familia thing?

And Riley was drafted to the nfl at like the 7th best pick. Riley is really our ticket to a potentially great coach. Like I say get him on a hiring committee and make guys like Todd golden tell pat no. He’s probably going to retire from the nba this time next year.

The problem with Prince is lack of team success. His teams honestly underachieved in relation to talent level. And we were far better in both the years immediately before and after him than we were when he was here.

For that reason, I’d put Tony Delk or AD above him. Those two delivered what UK fans value most.

Historically:

WaWa Jones- 3x BBall AA, 2x NC, Gold Medal, 2x All SEC in Football,
Groza - 2x 1st team AA, 1x 2nd team AA, 2x NC, 2x FF MOP, Gold Medal
Ramsey - 3x AA, 1951 NC (Understand the point shaving taints him, but his stats hold up), played baseball at UK as well
Hagan - 2x 1st Team AA, 1951 NC, high on the scoring/rebounding list (Understand the point shaving taints him, but his stats hold up)

4 favorite players of my lifetime:

Delk
Prince
Wall
Ulis

No brainers that should be unanimous:

Issel (all time leading scorer, long career in professional basketball as a player, coach and executive)
Mashburn (resurrected the program from probation, led us to FF, top 5 NBA draft pick)

I would also throw Davis up there because his one season (SEC champion, national champion, first team AA, NPOY, No. 1 overall draft pick, Olympic gold medalist) is an all-time great season and he blocked more shots in one season than some really good shot blockers blocked in their careers.

Fourth spot is a tossup.

I’ll go with Delk.

Honorable mention:
K. Walker
Nash
Beard
Prince
Bogans
Wall
Goose
Macy

I also think we could make a case for 2 different ones pre-integration and post-integration just because the game was so different in those eras and it’s hard to compare someone who wore a belt with their shorts to someone who could dunk from the free throw line.

Yeah, I mean he could've stuck around, had his knee injury in college and never gotten paid. I really do have trouble faulting him for going when he had the chance considering college guys weren't making millions then.

Issel - Well, because he is the greatest of the greats to have played here.
Walker - Simply because he is probably my all-time favorite Cat, and he pretty much made Barkley cry when he helped UK beat Auburn. Didn't much like Barkley back then, like I do today.
Mashburn - Because he, along with Pitino, brought the Cats back from probation.
Wall - Was a generational player who, if he had played 3 to 4 years at UK, probably would have replaced Issel as the all-time greatest Cat.

Players like him most definitely change the cal era if they would have stayed multiple years.
