Terry Smith on Drew Allar: “Our system wasn’t built for him.”

Borque is not coming to Penn State. So your question is irrelevant. We're getting Will Wood. Nowhere near as talented.

Interesting that O$U and Auburn have entered the picture with him as well now.... Gonna be a tough pull for whoever lands him with most likely a lot of money being thrown at him.

No, I'm critical of Drew constantly for his misguided loyalty to a man that was using him. He was someone that needed guidance. Terry claims he knew it was a problem and did...nothing.

Franklin didn't care about Allar. Franklin cared about Franklin. The NIL money was to benefit himself. If Franklin cared for him he would have told him to enter the draft.
How do you know Terry did nothing? Terry was the assistant head coach and probably expressed his opinion. His primary responsibility was defense, not offense. He loves PSU, so why would he quit or publically embarrassed CJF over the QB situation. Terry perhaps knew the end of the CJF era was near.

What did he do? That's the question.
Loyalty to Penn State made the program worse.
You all love Terry because he loves Penn State and therefore ignore valid criticism. Why say it now then? Is that not embarrassing Franklin over the situation? Is it not worse to make the claim after the fact?

Well, none of us were/are privy to conversations between the two of them. I guess we have to leave to speculation on all our parts as well as the reason for the timing of Terry's recent comments. I agree with you that Drew should have pirtalled or entered the draft after his junior yeah. I still believe his loyalty kept him at PSU and perhaps his loyalty was perceived by Drew and not genuine on CJF's part. Again, open to speculation by all. Appreciate the differing opinions but I'm out on this thread.

and the AD paid the coach for 4 years...when most of us were saying the same thing..."why recruit a pro style QB for a dual threat offense?"

Were there many 5* dual threat QBs standing in line to go to psu?

You don't always have a choice.

Just picture yourself at a bar at 3am.

Only 4 top 25 QBs still on the board. Only one with a psu offer.

The things that manifest themselves on the field, that cause people to question Allar's ceiling, are not things that are/were due to "system".
One COULD argue they were due to coaching/development. That could be a reasoned argument. But the "system" bit is just an easy out.

This is a fair response. Drew's ultimately to be blamed for his bad decisions but it seems very clear that many people who knew better didn't try to help him.

On the whole "Why didn't Terry say or do anything about Allar being a lousy fit" none of us know what happened. Where was the genius Kotelnicki in this whole sordid affair? He's the guy that should have challenged that clueless head coach we had captaining the Titantic.

Curious for an answer to PSUforever question
Does anybody know what kind of offense Penn State will be running? Will it be RPO or pro style?
Yep, not getting much feedback on my questions.

I wonder if we are just as well off if not better getting Will Wood instead of Bourque? People say Wood is a McSorely type but he is a lot bigger at 6'2" 220. I like his size and being mobile is terrific in my mind. I don't have to have a guy who wows the pro scouts and is a definite first rd draft pick. If we can get a guy who is a fiery leader/natural leader who is a gamer and can make clutch plays being both physically and mentally tough then that would be huge. Not saying Bourque is not this or that Wood is definetly this, I don't know, but sometimes the star ratings don't tell the whole story. As we know, fit with the system and intangibles are a huge part of the QB position.

You need therapy. You look dumb obsessing.

Smith even made psu look bad. The story is all over the interweb and it reads, " PSU ruined Allar." No mention of Franklin. Smith should have grown a pair and said Franklin's system.

Pretty obvious who the architect of PSU's offense was and no need to name; Smith too classy for that. But, like Voldemort in Harry Potter, everyone knows....

This is not on Kotelnicki....his offenses never were either....and like WHO DIDN'T KNOW THIS from the day BGJ was hired? It was the primary question: How will Hack work in James' offense since James' doesn't like the pro-style at all.

Suddenly this is a surprise 13 years later?

I always questioned the turnover at OC. Especially the one year tenure for the one guy, last name starts with a C and I wont spell it correctly.

That guy gave PSU's defense fits last year at Rutgres and almost stole that game. QB threw for 338 yards and 3 TD's, the lead RB ran for 189 yards and averaged 6.5ypc, and time of possession was in their favor. The lost fumble may have cost them that game.

He also had a great game plan at Minnesota in 2019 when they upset PSU. They didn't run the ball well, but the QB played lights out and they absolutely dominated TOP. Their offense had a lot of help from a very good defensive secondary.

How does someone that can do that with middling talent at places like Rutgres and Minnesota have his offense perform so poorly, with considerably more talent at PSU, that he gets fired?
