Truth be told, since Rupp….

…..we‘ve not been anything special. Adolph won 4 National Championships in an 11 year period, starting ‘48, and ending in ‘58.

Since then, there’s been good seasons for sure. However, since 1958, no other UK coach has won more than 1 title.

So, since Rupp‘s last title in 1958, UK has just 4 National Championships in the last 68 CBB seasons.

And there’s no guarantees that’s we’ll ever win another.

An Elite Eight almost 45% of the time from Rupp until 2019 isn't "anything special?"

Titles aren't the only measurement of greatness, but I understand the necessity of @Vek96 posting such a limited thread that lacks both perspective and context. He made it because he and others are still trying to lower the standard here.

The standard here has never been winning a title every year. It's been contending for a title every other year or so. Once you guys figure that out, it will all make a lot more sense.

By the way, this thread is the type of stuff Indiana fans would love. That's what loser programs do - they lower the bar and create strawmen so that the actual expectations are never actually held to.

No, but typically we're at least sitting at the table.

I don't know if I agree with that. We have been awful for a decade but we have four final fours and a championship in this century. We might not be as good as UConn or Duke but I would say we are a solid second tier basketball program.

This is both right and wrong.

We haven’t set the world on fire title wise since integration, and if we don’t win another before 2028, we will have one title in the last 30 years.

But we have had several great seasons, won numerous league titles and league tourney titles, put a ton of guys in the pros and lead the sport in wins (for now anyway.)

LOL. Subtract ALL of Rupp's accomplishments and Kentucky would still have the most coaches to ever win a title, more Elite Eights and Sweet 16s than any program, more titles than all but five programs, and more Final Fours than all but four programs.

Take the most accomplished coach away from UCLA, Duke, Indiana, UConn or UNC-CHeats, and NONE of them have Kentucky's accomplishments -- not even close.

But keep spinning your nonsense any way you choose. Whether you are just determined to wallow in misery, or trolling to spread it, no one should be buying it.

The only guarantee is we will not win one with Coach Pope.

The only people wanting us to keep Pope around are the fans of Kansas UL Duke Tennessee UNC and on and on. This is the most I’ve been aggravated about the situation. This is embarrassing, we have wussy for a coach and yes I’ve seen him punch the dry erase board.
Please for the love of god, resign at season end and go enjoy life with the family.

Under Pitino/Tubby(*Pitino) we were in the title game three years in a row, won two and would have won all three easily apart from a titanic injury to our single best player, all only three years on from another Final Four. Cal despite his flaws added four Final Fours himself plus two title-game appearances and one title in a similar period.

That all just happened? Any school can do that without being special?

Not to mention which... No one can ever take anything away from Rupp but since you're trying to absolutely trash all our other coaches in comparison to him you need to answer for the fact that, while he did win four NCAAT titles in 11 years, at the time he won three of those NCAAT titles the NCAAT was not the most prestigious tournament at the time. The NIT was—until 1952. It's somewhat apples-to-oranges becuase in that time the NCAAT was not the weak consolation prize that the NIT is today. But in some meaningful ways it still was like winning three NIT titles in the modern era.

Rupp was absolutely amazing! But we are not nothing without him. We are something special even without him....BECAUSE OF HIM.

We’ve had four coaches not named Adolph Rupp win a national championship. No other school has more than 3, and only 3 schools have that many.

That stat alone proves the sustained excellence of the UK program down through the decades.
Yep, 5 different coaches in 5 different decades. That is the definition of sustained excellence. I started watching in 1978 & since then we’ve been, basically, a top 10 program ever since, with a cpl of brief down periods in between. We’re relevant & at least in the championship discussion most years & that’s what I consider elite. The NCAAT success hasn’t been there recently. But, we’ve still been been a top 15-20 program during a down period.

Imo integration wasnt the issue. Other sec schools starting to REALLY care about basketball was the issue.

We would have won a 2nd n the 2010s if not for key injuries as well IMO. I know some may disagree.

Great post though and 100% agree.

Bi-polar or something. He is all over the place on here. One minute he wants us to be great, the next he’s a super Pope defender. Now Kentucky sucks and hasn’t been elite since Rupp. Quite the swing.
It’s these Pope cheerleaders melting down. The excuses are running out so they gotta go crazy and make these wild posts. I got one mad in another thread because he tried to boss me around like he’s a moderator.

Yeah, Kev used to be a pretty solid poster. Then I heard he went off the deep end and disappeared. Now, it seems like every post is baffling at best.
