How many years does Matt need?

KiffIn, Saban, Meyer, Christobal, Bob Stoops, Pete Carrol, Deboer (Washington) and the list goes on and on. What do they have in common? The previous coach was fired in 3 years or less (Saban 3.5). Matt? Give him 5 or 6 years as many have suggested? Schools that are serious about winning, can see that 3 years is long enough to recognize a turd and move on. Works for some, hasn't worked here (Smiling Mike). Maybe just maybe it is Nebraska's time. Give Matt a FULL 6. Games that is. Should have been done 4 months ago. Extension or not.

The AD doesn't care about vibes, he doesn't care about NU football. He wants to promote out, and he will sell the full stadium, and massive donations, along with success in bb, softball, volleyball, baseball as successes. Only when the program craters will he become scared. Will fans stop buying tickets and showing up? Will donations slow down? Still, AD probably falls on his sword rather than fire a coach he just extended.

People forget that we extended Callahan before his last season. Turns out that maybe he wasn’t as bad as it could get.

According to many "experts" on this board, he can't be fired now or after next season because we can't afford Rhule's new buyout. But, we can afford a $600 million stadium expansion. Go figure.

He’s retired lol. Who else are we going to get? This is a fun hobby for him and a good name for Neb. Win win except the real wins in football. He’s a figure head and very little drama. He isn’t going anywhere and there isn’t anyone else better that would want to come here with the recruiting issues we’ll always have.

I will say Matt did a decent job getting Nebraska more positive clicks for the podcasts and stuff he does, which is why I don't think he should be a coach, period. He would probably work better in an administrative position than a position that requires a high level of competency.

Callahan was a competent DC away from building dangerous teams. I hate to imagine what could've been if he had just retained Bo. Maybe he wins a Big 12 CCG and rides back to the NFL and Bo takes over a team with greater momentum

Highly disagree. Far too predictable on Offense and ran up stats on subpar teams while tanking against good teams. Who goes into games (USC and Mizzou) with a gameplan of not trying to win and just run clock? Every 3rd and long was the middle screen and at the goal line the out pass to the Fullback.

Eh, it's a sliding scale. For a program that was 3 years away from being in a national championship game, and 7 years away from winning 3 national championships in 4 years, it was about as bad as it could get.

It's okay to be wrong.

Twice the coach Rhule is.

What Super Bowl did Matt coach in? How many recruiting classes did Matt have that finished in the top 5 or in some rankings #1.
Just sayin. We have a history of poorly timed out extensions. He was a better head coach than Rhule but poor at fan relations. My brother-in-law knew him and said privately he was a good guy. Probably wasn’t a great fit at NU but we would have had great O lines.

He might need to let his coordinators have a heavier load in game management and just stay out of their way.

A lot of fans still don't want to come to the realization that Rhule is, at best, an average coach.
The question now is did he hire good enough assistants and coordinators to elevate his team over his own ceiling. I’m not optimistic that Aurich can do it his first season with players learning a new scheme. I’m afraid they won’t be able to play fast enough.

I liked Bill a lot but he was a terrible fit for NU and he never did anything after coaching here. His skill set makes the argument that there should be a general manager of the program who runs logistics like new technology, analytics, recruiting, spring game, marketing, NIL, academics and then a head coach who is purely in charge of xs and os and some recruiting overlap. Bill was great when it came to innovative technology, marketing, and recruiting. He sucked when it came to interacting with people.

I would say 5 years...(if he wins 7 games min. next year, considering the games).

thats what coaches used to get 5 years...lately it's been 3...and we just keep turning them over...
I think trev got the best he could at the time. as far as he knew..

ksu used to get pounded till they decided to keep snyder and end the high hc turnover..

5 years and you have a real good sense if the culture for wining is right..

someone said rhule would over ride dana certain times during the game and that has to stop..thats like having saterfeild call plays.
if rhule don't win 7 games I see the pitch forks coming out and not just a hot seat...(7 games means he will have to beat some decent teams)

No offense, but this might be one of the biggest reaches and worst examples I've ever seen posted on this board. That's like saying, Alabama was getting pounded for a number of years after Gene Stallings until they finally decided to settle for Nick Saban and stop the hc turnover.

Well, yeah, no sh*t. They ended the turnover because they finally found someone who was good. All the "hc turnover" guys weren't getting it done. You stop it once you find one who's successful. Granted, for KSU that bar is different than Alabama and Nebraska, but it's the same concept.

Snyder was a unicorn for his era in the same conversation as Cignetti, IMO. Massive respect for that man while trying my simultaneous best to rip on KSucks.

Is Snyder doing anything these days? Would he be interested in coming back to coaching for a couple of years to get us on the right track?
