I saw Monte Lee was asked how he felt about becoming the permanent head coach

Not sure why a reporter would even ask him that question. It ain't happening.

Some folks on X were touting his less bad SEC record than Mainieri as a reason to consider him. It's still a losing record, just not as embarrassingly bad.

Well, we've tried the ''analytics guy'' and the proven winner ''Senior'' guy, is it time to flip a coin, roll the dice or just try something different like a coach who really cares about Gamecock Baseball?

Yes, the first qualification for a gamecock coach is "he really wants to be here".

"he really wants to be here" and ''really cares about Gamecock Baseball'' are not really the same although the ''right coach'' should have both.

Do you think Tanner "really cared about Gamecock baseball" before he took the job here?

Good point. For someone from the outside, it's less about "Gamecock baseball" and more about being an effective coach, manager, and recruiter.

Maybe the reporter figured that the fan base might be interested in hearing how Lee responded to the question. And I think that Lee gave an excellent response.

“It’s been up and down, but boy, have they been competitive. I mean, one thing you can say about this group is this group has been competitive,” Lee said on Saturday. “They bring their very best effort every single day to the ballpark. That’s something we can hang our hat on.”

I wonder if he still believes this after last night's game.

I think that is true for most head coaches in all sports. Beamer would be just as enthusiastic at NC State as he is at South Carolina. Dawn would be doing the same job at FSU.

I do think coaches who attended or played at the schools where they coach i.e. Kirby, do care more about the school and team. Kirby has a personal grudge against UT, UF, Auburn and Georgia tech, and it shows.

If Lee is our head coach next year, there will be about 10 fans in attendance for the opening game at Founders. I like Lee as a person but every baseball staff member has got to go. Lee was not retained in any fashion at Clemson and we should do the same.

Maybe this time let’s go out and hire the guy that’s at the top of everyone else’s list too.
