This is a pretty good example of a thread you should never check in on twice.
I've never once heard sportscasters use manila to mean plain. Not once in thousands of sporting events. You must have misheard that one too. However have heard the term plain vanilla ice cream many many times. You don't get out much do you?Yes, believe it or not, I've heard usages of "plain", before.
And, believe it or not, that has nothing to do with that fact I've never heard anyone say, "plain white paper".
Nor have I ever heard anyone say, "plain vanilla ice cream". So, you must have misheard that one too.
None of what you've provided proves that sportcasters in the 80's didn't describe plain gameplans as, "manila".
Sometimes it's ok to simply take people at face value. It's only been a pet peeve of mine for nearly 40 years. One would think that pet peeve originated out of something other than my imagination
Perfect example. This whole thread reminds me of the original WOB thread.
I suppose most folks don't remember it. Basically, some guy got mad at other posters and said they were all "want of bees." (Meaning "wannabes," of course.) But when corrected on the mistake -- and properly mocked -- he doubled down, insisting all the other folks in the thread were the real idiots.
I can't remember the poster's name, and I wonder what happened to him. I think we might have found him.
Agree. Once eyes enters a thread, might as well never look at it again. This is a pretty good example of a thread you should never check in on twice.
He has some interesting takes, from time to time, and I can appreciate folks who push back against the groupthink that all too often dominates message boards like these.Agree. Once eyes enters a thread, might as well never look at it again.
He’s a real piece of work. I just laugh at him. But I am seriously considering putting him on ignore. I’m getting tired of him derailing every thread he posts in with his asinine comments and constant arguing.
You guys are the one's who have chosen not to take another man at face value.Agree. Once eyes enters a thread, might as well never look at it again.

Can't say I would agree with this characterization entirely. He has some interesting takes, from time to time, and I can appreciate folks who push back against the groupthink that all too often dominates message boards like these.
The issue, though, is that he has a habit of digging in long past the point of usefulness. Conversations with him often turn circular, slipping into a kind of gaslighting dynamic that ends up derailing entire threads. If he could break that pattern, he’d be a strong contributor -- he’s clearly intelligent and not always wrong. He just has a tendency to corner himself logically and then refuse to stop trying to argue his way out of it.
Or, to put it another way: Post better.
The issue is, he isn't here to post like a regular fan. Instead, he has openly said it's his job to correct us. He has no interest in participating in anything outside of attacking people. You'll never see him in a game thread, or a thread celebrating a victory. Instead, he spends his time arguing on a sociopathic level. Most things he preaches are logical fallacies or outright lies; almost as if he says it just to be a contrarian for the sake of it.He has some interesting takes, from time to time, and I can appreciate folks who push back against the groupthink that all too often dominates message boards like these.

You appreciate a contrarian for attention? Back to my request above. Please provide anything interesting this dumbazz has posted of any value., and I can appreciate folks who push back against the groupthink that all too often dominates message boards like these.
Once upon a time, he pushed back on a bit of message-board canon -- that Tom Davis supposedly went into a delay game early in the second half against UNLV in the 1987 Regional final. I was convinced he was wrong, as I had a vivid memory of Iowa Hawkeyes running the “wheel” as they tried to sit on the lead. So I went back and watched the broadcast (you can find it on YouTube). Turns out, he was right. The slowdown I remembered just … isn’t there. How that memory got planted, I can't tell you -- chalk it up to a classic Mandela Effect.prove it?

Fair enough and props for a specific example.Once upon a time, he pushed back on a bit of message-board canon -- that Tom Davis supposedly went into a delay game early in the second half against UNLV in the 1987 Regional final. But don't get me wrong -- I still find the guy highly annoying at times. If there was a line to throat-punch him, I would surely have been in it on more than one occasion.
Just not every time.
I suppose nuance is hard for some folks.

It just sucks, because ultimately he does whatever it takes to derail conversations and stop any meaningful discussions if he disagrees with it, using the same copy and paste, non-contributing phrases that mean nothing and have no value to a conversation. I've had him on ignore since his open admitting to policing fans. Simply no reason to talk or reason with him. Just laugh and move on, because that's all he's good for.
Read better, stop mischaracterizing and stop lying.
Maybe the way a lot of "regular fans" post is exactly what I have a problem with. Why would I post like them?
You don't seem to understand how much athletes and coaches hate certain types of fans. I'm here to help give you a glimpse into how athletes and coaches think. Not surprisingly, it often isn't close to what gets echoed off the walls of the fans' chamber. Maybe you should put some thought into that. There's a reason the saying, "they're either with us, or they're against us", gets repeated in locker rooms all across the country.
There are other reasons why I take the time to educate fans. But I'm not going to explain it to you, as you will inevitably mischaracterize it all anyway.
Many times I have clarified to you that I'm here to educate, not police. But you continue to mischaracterize me in that way. It's really a jackass move, at this point.
I do get offended at times, and do call people out. Again, I would ask why it's ok for posters to call out Iowa coaches and players, but not ok for me to call out certain posters? At least one contains a degree of constructivism.
Maybe the reason you don't see me in game threads is because I'm actually watching the game. Why the hell would I be on here during a game?
No interest in participating? Stop meaningful discussions if I disagree? Where do you come up with this stuff? For one thing, name one meaningful discussion on this board. Our mere fan discussion about the actions of experts couldn't be any more meaningless.
And no, you clearly don't have me on ignore. You've been stalking literally every one of my posts with emojis for nearly two years. And you comment on many of them. Why would you flat out lie to people like that?
Yes, that chance exists.Let's just go with the thought you're an educator. Do you think there's a chance that you might feel you're an educator while others view your style as policing. A good educator knows how to read the room and adapt to his/her environment. But you seem to want everyone else to adapt to your style of teaching. Maybe you're not as good of a teacher as you think you are.
Go for it.
(crazy that people still think this guy is serious)
I know many of you around here are allergic to the truth. But here you go.
13:01 in the link. KF: "(throwing the ball around) makes it tougher to win, tougher to have a good defense"
Perhaps this video will prove instructional.Yes, that chance exists.
I've admitted to, at times too easily lashing out at those who have too easily offended me. Despite the fact that I absolutely despise certain fan behavior, an educational tone is always best.
But I've explained my intentions, in detail, to 2Dense on a few occasions. There is no excuse for his repeated mischaracterization, other than the fact that he is 2Dickish. I'm not the only one he does it to.
And in general, it would also be fair to say many posters need to learn better/be better fans in the first place. The fact that the board bad guy, is the one who actually gives coaches the benefit of the doubt, says a lot
It's vanilla. Eyes needs to cut bait and just admit they were wrong. The only “proof” you provided that sportscasters in the 80’s routinely described plain gameplans as “manila” is your say so. Sorry….but that won’t cut it. Google AI says you’re wrong.
Since you seem to think it was common practice, let’s hear from the community. How many folks here remember sportscasters routinely referring to plain gameplans as “manila”?
And how many have never heard it used that way?
Perhaps this video will prove instructional.
Thanks. Pretty clear he was referring to offenses that throw the ball 50-60 times per game, which a KF offense has not and will never do. Especially apparent within the context that they were still looking for a new OC at that point - he simply wasn't going to bring in an OC who runs an air raid type offense. The link was provided days ago.
Don't care for the truth?
It’s a video a lot of folks around here could learn from, tbh.Cool. That's fine.
But I'm going to keep calling out those that are being a dick about Iowa's coaches and players
Stop. It's pretty clear KF mentions nothing about air raid or 50-60 throws.Thanks. Pretty clear he was referring to offenses that throw the ball 50-60 times per game, which a KF offense has not and will never do. Especially apparent within the context that they were still looking for a new OC at that point - he simply wasn't going to bring in an OC who runs an air raid type offense.
Balance is balance, we have to throw the ball to achieve it. We are not a Minnesota or Wisconsin who runs the ball 60-70% of snaps and we never have been under KF.
Will never happen. It's vanilla. Eyes needs to cut bait and just admit they were wrong.
Couldn't even bring yourself to agree with me nor acknowledge the entirety of my post - troll.Somehow I think I'll ride with the coach every, single time
Perhaps true about recently.Apparently there are still misguided posters who think fans want Iowa to throw the ball a lot more. Those posters are mischacterizing. The vast majority simply want an effective passing game….something Iowa hasn’t really had on a consistent basis for several years.
Most fans are fine with the run/pass mix we already have.
But….some folks just can’t get that concept thru their thick skulls.
Agree with/acknowledge what?Couldn't even bring yourself to agree with me nor acknowledge the entirety of my post - troll.
Your posts on the MBB coach are in direct opposition to the excerpt above, because your overarching goal is to argue and make other people mad - troll.
Troll better
Dude, that post was "manila". Flat-out plain manila. You guys are the one's who have chosen not to take another man at face value.
This thread wouldn't have turned into this had I not been questioned.
As if it were completely implausible for someone to use the word, "manila", for plain.
Again, how would I even make such a thing up?
Get a life
What are those "certain types of fans"? More to the point, why would they actually care?Read better, stop mischaracterizing and stop lying.

Educating fans? OK, sure. You do you. And it appears you strive to be the "against" guy on a constant basis.
