Pay for play is having the exact opposite impact. Interest has never been higher. Upper classmen no longer have to jump to the next level at the first off ramp. Rosters can flip on a dime. Sports have always been great, but they are getting better.
For the people who sit at home on their coach, yes, it’s better. But it’s significantly hurt local fan engagement.

We are going to continue to say this to one another as we are demoted to the Sun Belt.
Well it’s a big reason many MSU folks have given up except for baseball. We all know we don’t have the money overall.

I used to think a recession would quell some of this but 2008 proved it won’t. These rich boosters will keep doing it.

If we didn’t have the money as you have said then explain how we retained Kelly jones Ant, Taylor fluff, smith and Whitson just to name a few? Explain how we got Evans from ATM, Chester Gilbert and miller from LSU Taylor from Iowa state McVay from UNC? What about how we out recruited Auburn and ARk just this week for Freeman? And we were so po how did we beat out Mizz and others from Nickerson? How did we land 5 star Womack? Beat our TCU for Henderson and I could name others. This stupid idea we can’t compete and and don’t have money needs to die out if this fan base

It won’t be the Fun Belt. We will have the fanciest baseball stadium in the Big XII.

back on topic: 7M for the No. 1 draft prospect is actually good value I think. How much is Arch getting? He’s 1/22 starters. This guy is 1/5.

But this money needs to get tied to performance. The guy KU had last year would pull himself frequently.

I think you are wrong there. The interest is higher in a few places, but most people you talk too are slowly losing interest. That will hit critical mass one day and the people celebrating this stuff will wonder what happened.

It's called rev share. We have at least that much then obviously pull in from outside collective.

And don't act like we're getting better players than our SEC counterparts. Maybe Arkansas because they are broke.

We have never gotten better players than our counterparts. Sure we are less talented but Our problems in FB are mostly making atrocious coaching hires.

Once again you’re wrong. Yes Rev share helps but we also have upped our NIL game. And yes we have closed the gap on talent within the SEC.

It's true, when you have 5,000 x the money than the average college graduate and you can no longer travel to Epstein Island...

paying millions for college athletes is the stupidshitu do.

Oh, GOD, please give us a RICH BOOSTER, not just kind of rich, but STUPID WEALTHY and stupid.

Count me in that group. I celebrate when people with a skill get compensated for what they are worth.

Then watch pro sports.

NIL should be between the player and an outside party, whether it's a booster or company, completely free of the school. If boosters want to blow all their money with nothing to contractually tie a player to a school, I'm all for it. That would tamp down this shlt after a transfer or two, and should have been done in 1987 instead of the death penalty. Folks would eventually wise up and this fake 'demand' would dissipate quite a bit, down to realistic levels.

Rev share is the dumbest 17ing thing the colleges have ever done.

I don’t think it was even two years ago will Bill Self was quoted by Gary Parrish as saying that these kids were certainly getting paid, but nowhere NEAR as much as the ludicrous $1-2M figures that were being tossed out there.

Yeah, ok Bill

Giving six and seven figures to college students is good for the economy. Most of that money is going to make it into the retail sector and a fair amount into equities. And it's nice to know that these people and their families have a chance of making a good life for themselves even if they get injured late in college or early in their pro careers.

I'd be shocked if we were paying anybody a little less than half of that.
I dunno. Pretty sure we were willing to give $5+ to that Colorado OT. He would have been the highest in MSU history, but I think we’ve got some “$2” and “$3” deals in place.

Looks he does have a Nike deal. if he can get that in actual Name Image and Likeness deals, then good for him.

But if this is just Kansas outbidding Kentucky with collective funds.... wow.

I'll say this, good for him. But I'll never give a dime to nil.

We are 1-15 in the SEC under Lebby. We’re not doing much closing of the gap here.
Last year was a lot on coaching/hiring. Had he kept Kennedy and hired someone who had actually called a defense last year we are looking to 2026 much differently.

This year dumbass this past portal cycle as well as what we retained and what we have recruited. I dont expect you and others to understand that. You are one of the most uninformed posters

that’s 53 3* players and only 5 4* players in the current recruiting & portal classes. I guess I am uninformed about how that’s gonna be good enough in the SEC.

I think we all agree that we looked better this year. But still not any good. Carried by a few players, and held back by coaching.

We're going to look the same this season, except offense is what will be bad. Teams gonna stack the box. Then defense will give out by the end.

It’s not like Mullen lit it up with stars. It’s always going to be about evaluations and development (of the HS kids) for us. The difference now is we don’t have to try to slay a beast like Bama b/c the top has gotten watered down and there is parity. I’d bet Florida, TN, and TX have more 4s and 5s than we have 3s and we were a play away in each game from winning.

If we are the 12th best defense in 2025 - I feel like the vibes are totally different today.

We just need a pulse on defense.
