I think you forgot that she's a 18y freshman from Europe, doubly adapting to life in Florida/language and to the College game. Just looking at statistics isn't appropriate, and I don't think 4.7 PPG on 14 MPG is that bad. Kyle Feuerbach had 5.1 PPG on 28 MPG with five seasons of experience (24y) and was quite useful to the team. You're using Jelena Bulajic's cold numbers at 18 years old to say she's not good enough to be the Iowa 10th player. That's already a weak argument, and you're choosing to ignore the development potential of a player who, at 16 years old against the best U18 players in Europe, had 21 PPG and was among the five best player in the tournament (best shooting guard - All Team). Your choice is very poor.Give me your definition of staff will add quality depth to the roster. Especially in light of Jocelyn Faison #s that was tapped next in line after DC, AW and some misses. Example: Avg bench pts/mins vs avg mop up mins in Big Ten play. Do you expect them to be mid-major or P4 players?
After the AW commit, NIL #s and add quality depth are having a hard time agreeing with each other so far.
Afaict from AW's Top 50/25 games, she's most likely a bench player from her off #s. Plus, her def #s more closely match Strem than Kylie,

Realize this is going to be a bench player, but I'm trying to figure out what's a quality depth player for us?
Maybe I should ask it in another way. Who should these quality bench players be better than the players we lost to the portal?

It's difficult to predict now what will happen when everything starts. Just one example: if we go back a year, fans were probably ranking Journey Houston as the 10th or 11th player on the roster, and she ended the season as our 6th player and starting a few times. It could happen again. That's why it's so important to choose each piece of the roster very carefully. Depth and qualified roster is important because the season is long and unpredictable.
Purdue hired one of her assistant coaches from USF two weeks ago, So I guess not a totally unexpected pick up for them.
Faison is a great addition — good depth piece who has clear potential to develop into something more.
We still need some more depth pieces, but anyone who isn’t excited about the way the roster is coming together either isn’t paying attention, or has a personal agenda that is driving their thinking.

With only the existing committed players, ESPN already has us as a 2 seed in their initial bracketology. Give me a min to do the math but…hmmm….lets see, that would make us a Top 8 program next year. So add ESPN to the tally for “being all wrong”. I guess Omaha’s chicken-little ******** outsmarted all of us

They're probably excited. I think the difference might be that they're expecting her to star for them next year. We're expecting Faison to provide some depth behind other more accomplished players, including Carnegie who practically speaking took Deal's spot in the lineup. Neither Deal nor Faison is good enough to start at Iowa today.
For the record I would characterize it as a combination of an educated guess based on multiple facts/clues, reading between the lines and just generally stating the obvious (relatively soon is any time before the team members begin arriving in early June which is in about 5 weeks).
I have previously related it to reading tea leaves in a crystal ball. It’s not really scientific, but it’s also not totally random either. There is probably some hope bias also (I want to believe).

Actually this quote from me was about the portal. But it does not purport to be about “any player available who would have a bigger impact than to sign Dani Carnegie”. What this quote does purport is that there will be more transfers in and when they are made public, those who are predisposed to positivity will be excited.
