The extra staff is needed for recruiting because it takes more effort to fill our class.

At least we can agree on something. I have previously posted that Schiano needs a GM, just like how Miami has Alonzo Highsmith. Mark Dominick, his GM at Tampa, could be a great candidate. Football needs a Rob Sullivan type, who knows the needs and kids like the back of his hand, for basketball.

That's the problem. Just pay the kids with the salary of the over 30 staff that Schiano carries more than schools like Indiana. Rutgers has the biggest staff in the B1G. And nothing to show for it. Utterly insane.

Rutgers is paying kids the max they can,
roughly $16M for footballrevshare. Anything more has to come from NIL.

As someone pointed out, watching players develop over their 4-5 years with the team used to be a huge part of why I liked college sports. Feeling a connection to the players/team drove engagement. Nowadays teams are held hostage at the end of every season and you don’t know who’s coming and going. D1 NCAA football is a circus. Compare it to pro football and it’s obvious what a mess NIL has created. At this point, I prefer high school although if something doesn’t change soon 15 year old kids will be demanding payments as they shop themselves around after 8th grade.

It’s only disqualifying to you, because you don’t understand the dynamics of Big Ten Finance.

We’re spending competitively with our Big Ten Peers and have to spend more operationally because we don’t have as much NIL support and haven’t spent as much on CapEx. This requires increased recruiting effort, hence increased operational expense.

Sit this one out, Mr. Coastal Athletic Association.

Compare Indianas transfer class with ours, and you won’t see the same caliber of transfers. IE is there a 9,629 yard passer in our class?

  1. Didn't say anything about Indiana/Rutgers current transfer class for 2026.
  2. YOU said Indiana spent $30-40m on their team for 2025 (won National Championship, win the B1G, undefeated season).
  3. Presumably they spent less in 2024 (11-2, 8-1 in the B1G, made the CFP, ranked #10)
  4. What is Rutgers spending? Reportedly $16m in RevShare like everyone else. Is Schiano raising over $10m in NIL? Closer to $15m? With all his NJ connection and how great a coach he is and loved in NJ.
  5. If Zinn can reportedly raise $6m-7m in NIL for the woeful MBB - presumably the great Schiano is still least double that?

Seems Rutgets is closer to $30m than you think?

Al please stop, you’re a clown. I called out the financial aspects of where RU needed to be when they joined the B1G.

Many were upset with me during the build fund when everyone was congratulating themselves over raising $75m plus the state aid and I them it wasn’t enough be Ise

It took you multiple years in the NIL sphere to recognize that RU wasn’t competitive and I called it from the start.

You do more harm than good but your ego won’t allow you to see that you turn people off from wanting to donate. Which is why people look at you as a troll now.

It's widely known that IU spent very little on their 24 team. That was all coaching. The money came after he proved he could win huge. That's when Cuban got involved specifically and they landed Mendoza.

Al is afraid to say what he donates even though he incessantly whines about other people. Tells me he donates very little or nothing. I've never seen him at any event where head coaches and AD's are. Also telling.

Spent little because the top, winning players from the new coach's old team came over with him. Not easily replicated.

Right. The 2 and 3 star guys he recruited and developed and won with wanted to keep winning and developing with him. Sign of a great coach. When you have that you have something special. Then the money comes.

The big question now is can Cig keep winning when he has a much larger pool of great players to choose from. Seems like an easy yes, but those players come with different management. I think he can do it but the game is changing at Indiana. Winning a NC will do that. Either way, it's the most remarkable sports story of all our lifetime.

The coach and staff is why Indiana is able to pull in talent. For them to win with that much low major talent is remarkable.

Yes having cash to back that up helps. However, we have plenty of money to bring in a handful of top talent but the staff provides zero confidence to the players.

I've asked you before. You seem to consistently attack both RU's football and basketball coaches. Who was the last football coach here that you spoke well of ? And the same question for the basketball coach ?

In 30 years it’s hard to find one to “like”.


Schiano deserves credit in his first go around . He got the stadium expansion built and facilities upgraded. Even with the most talent he could not win the lonely big east . His second stop coming off two firings and the largest scandal in American Collegiate history has been bad. He has had plenty of time to get us moving in the right direction and has failed. His time is over. He gets paid very well and his bloated staff is the most in the BIG.

I liked Rice but that went up in smoke for obvious reasons. I love Pike the man but this is Power 4 professional sports. Consecutive losing seasons and squandering the best chance to be relevant in basketball is inexcusable. He will never out live that stain here and his in game coaching is awful.

I always pull hard and route for the guys playing. They chose to come here and I want them to succeed but the only way we move forward is to bring in the right ppl.

Look at women’s hoops. Dead and laughing stock. Changed the coach and they instantly had a huge portal haul. Who knows if it works but I know how the football and basketball season will go today! Greg will hope to get to 5 wins and pray for the pinstripe bowl. Pike will battle to get to 15/16 wins .

Why are blue bloods constantly relevant? Simple making the tournament or bowl is not enough. You win and win big or you’re gone.

Rutgers sits around and prays to catch lightning in a bottle ! That’s not a strategy

In five long years at Rutgers he was 11-44. And RU wasn't playing a Big Ten schedule back then. He never finished any of his five seasons here with Ohio State and Pedd State back-to-back either.
And btw, the crappy nature of Rutgers head coaches in the two major sports here over the years is evident by just checking out the others who held the position and could give Shea some competition for the title of Worst RU Coach Ever.
Schiano stands out because the rest of the field was so awful. Rutgers is mostly known for hiring awful head coaches in both sports.
And please note that I'm not talking about the good old days in that small football stadium when Colgate was our toughest opponent and the coaches were Burns and Bateman. Or when Tom Young and Bill Foster were the head basketball coaches.

Curious what people think would qualify as a meaningful or acceptable donation from Al or anyone on this thread…I’m guessing a wide range of opinions especially without knowing net worth or income levels.

I said we was ok because of those specific players not necessarily him. I knew those guys. My original post summoned up fhe abysmal 30 years.
