Why stop at 3 years? Why wouldn't you give Pope 5 years to prove himself? That would allow a full run through of freshman from his first year. If you are willing to say Pope is gone after year 3 why wouldn't you have that opinion already? Those saying at least give him year 3 are essentially lying. I can't see a logical reason for having a coaches need at least 3 years opinion. Pope has failed at every facet of coaching a basketball team. Coaching, staffing, player development, roster evaluation, media relations. He was a disaster. So you either see that and say get rid of him or you are a at least give him a full 5 years with his players guy. To say coaches need at least 3 years sounds crazy to me. What will 3 prove that 2 didn't. Anyone not ready now won't be ready after next year's first round exit either
Because year 1 wasn't a failure. You act like he went to the NIT both years.

He set a record for most quad 1 wins, beat 2 final 4 teams (including the national title winner) and he made it to the sweet 16, while missing Robinson and with an injured pg. That alone earned him a 3rd year.

A 3rd year is a fair amount of time to evaluate a coach IN MY OPINION.

You can have whatever opinion you want, but the second you come at me, because I'm remaining calm and taking a wait-and-see approach, is when we have a problem.

If year 1 was the same as what we just witnessed in year 2, I would be right there with you LOD guys, but I refuse to make Mark Pope pay for some of the check Cal wrote.

Recruiting and pedigree.
Sean Miller, Dana Altman and Scott Drew have those 2 attributes too, you want to hire them?

What has Jai Lucas accomplished on the court as a coach that should make him a candidate worthy of the UK job?

What does Cal have to do with anything? This makes me think your holding out hope for Pope as some kind of justification for wanting Cal gone. I wanted Cal gone. I spent a lot of money to go to the SEC tourney his last year to see us look completely unprepared. He was done. You don't have to justify that opinion through Pope. Pope makes millions and doesn't need anyone's pity. He a professional and that makes him look even worse.

I think that's a huge part of the Pope fans' delusion

My God, the ignorance and stupidity continues. Unbelievable.

You can't deny that some of the hate Pope is getting, is partially being fueled from the failures of Cal's last 4 years. If you don't believe that, well, that's on you. Pope's 2 years shouldn't garner all the hate he is getting.

Yup, I wanted Cal out, but I never wanted Pope to be hired, he didn't deserve this job. But he did enough in year 1 for me to understand him getting a 3rd year. That's it, nothing more, nothing less.

The only delusion, is you thinking Pope has fans.

You appear to be a grown man, so I have to ask, how many times do we have to explain to you that we are not Pope fans?
You clearly are a fan. You spend a lot of time defending him online. That's what a fan does. What would you call your relationship to Mark Pope if not a fan?

LOL, no, I am simply calling it as I see it. Be an adult and look at the facts instead of just believing what you want. I've literally said Pope should never have been hired and I've literally started threads debunking what you're saying.

I refuse to agree with anyone that says Pope is worse than BCG. That's just stupid.

All I'm doing is hoping Pope fixes it, because the alternative sucks.

I never said that. I said this is a worse situation because Gillispie was so bad, you could justify firing him sooner.
If Pope keeps us in this 10-14 loss, middle-of-SEC spot, that IMO is the worst place to be in.

I actually agree with that.

The worst thing that can happen, is Pope have a season similar to his first year here. That means at his best, with his career on the line, the best he can do is 3rd in the SEC and a sweet 16, but the real kicker is, he would keep his job here. Ouch. I don't want that.

Yeah, Tayshaun and AD never could get it going, they were just too darn skinny.
AD had a big butt and could use it to hold his position in the paint. So to say he was skinny isn't exactly accurate. And both him and Tayshaun were highly rated McDonald's All Americans out of high-school. This guy? He looked great in his hilight real, but so did Jelevic. Hopefully his length can help him get his shot off over defenders, but that's not so easy when you are a toothpick and dudes are bodying you up. I hope he is AD good, but I wouldn't hold my breath on that one.

LOL, AD didn't have a big butt, he had a face up game, maybe you're thinking of KAT.

The fact that Prince and Davis were McDonalds AA's, only proves my point. All 3 players are rail thin and all 3 are very talented. Prince and AD proved you can be great at any level without being bulky players.

Good grief. I was talking about AD battling to gain position offensively and defensively off the ball in the paint, not how he shot the ball. He was not skinny from the waist down. Either way, hoping our new guy is anywhere close to his or Prince's ability is a pipedream.

Pope has never been 3rd in the SEC we were 10-8 his first year. 6th place.

That’s Mark Pope’s numbers for this year and many want to defend him, he did an absolutely abysmal job during the season and is continuing to do so in the offseason. I guess I’m the one percent that he speaks of…never has one been given so much and done so little with an opportunity.

And #1 coach on the hot seat.

what was last years portal class ranked? I think it was pretty high and most of you wanted them gone. well still add more people but we got rid of players who gave us nearly nothing Jasper, bg and jelavic
It's unfortunate but those guys did give us a lot; giving nothing would mean they had no impact but we got major negative impact from all those players.
