Because year 1 wasn't a failure. You act like he went to the NIT both years. Why stop at 3 years? Why wouldn't you give Pope 5 years to prove himself? That would allow a full run through of freshman from his first year. If you are willing to say Pope is gone after year 3 why wouldn't you have that opinion already? Those saying at least give him year 3 are essentially lying. I can't see a logical reason for having a coaches need at least 3 years opinion. Pope has failed at every facet of coaching a basketball team. Coaching, staffing, player development, roster evaluation, media relations. He was a disaster. So you either see that and say get rid of him or you are a at least give him a full 5 years with his players guy. To say coaches need at least 3 years sounds crazy to me. What will 3 prove that 2 didn't. Anyone not ready now won't be ready after next year's first round exit either
He set a record for most quad 1 wins, beat 2 final 4 teams (including the national title winner) and he made it to the sweet 16, while missing Robinson and with an injured pg. That alone earned him a 3rd year.
A 3rd year is a fair amount of time to evaluate a coach IN MY OPINION.
You can have whatever opinion you want, but the second you come at me, because I'm remaining calm and taking a wait-and-see approach, is when we have a problem.
If year 1 was the same as what we just witnessed in year 2, I would be right there with you LOD guys, but I refuse to make Mark Pope pay for some of the check Cal wrote.
