Will power is a tricky thing and very difficult to harness in addiction. But I agree on the basic point of just don't do it if you have a problem. This method worked for me in 1982. It was not easy, nor fun, but neccessary and my will power was a large part, that and a cute girl that wanted little to do with my cocaine.
I quit, we had 3 children. I still have some demons, but not that one thank goodness.
I think that is one thing that does make me sound judgmental since I’ve never struggled with or had to battle with addiction. I guess I’ve just been fortunate where I can pick up and put down my vices but I do understand not everyone is like that.

Sidenote: while running the Kentucky derby marathon 2 days ago, I thought to myself “how much faster could I run this if I did a couple bumps throughout the course?” But I’m too puss to find out lol nor do I even know how/where to find some without sounding like a narc 😂😂

You are fortunate my friend.

What is great now, I too would look like a narc out looking, lol. As I told the investigators after Kirsten's death, it had been 40 years since I played with it.

Best decision I ever made, I was going to die and I knew it.

I’m glad you turned things around. I’ve buried too many friends to morphine, heroin, fentanyl, DUIs. Death is obviously unavoidable, but losing people at young ages or too soon is always a tragedy. Another reason I never touched anything above weed, except ecstasy once. I got trust issues and you just can’t trust drugs. Think you’re going to do a line and have a great time with the boys, next thing you’re slumped over coding because it had fent in it.

Some here still call me a druggie and worse, but the reality is I made it to Alaska, and raised three boys here. None of them saw me stung out. What a place for boys to grow up, yes?

NCAA Bylaw 10.3:
The following individuals shall not knowingly participate in sports wagering activities or provide information individuals involved or associated with any type of sports wagering activity concerning intercollegiate, amateur or professional athletics competition:
a. Staff members of an institution's athletics department;
b. Nonathletic staff members who have responsibilities within or over the athletics department (e.g. chancellor or president, faculty athletics representative or individuals to whom athletics reports);
c. Staff members of a conference office; and
d. Student-athletes.

This has always been a crystal-clear bright line rule (note the SHALL NOT language). No ambiguity and it has always been enforced ruthlessly. There are plenty of examples out there of student-athletes banned for a year or permanently. During my time at the NCAA, gambling was cause for immediate firing and one person that I know was let go because of it.

What Texas Tech will likely try to do is paint this as some kind of mental illness for which he is getting treatment and ask for a medical waiver. If that fails, there's always lawyers asking for injunctive relief. But if these allegations are true and the NCAA follows precedent, he's done.

Went to the 247 board for TT and wow, a lot of fans honestly think he'll play this year, or that Tech should just play him anyway. To be fair at leaat a third know he's finished, but an awful lot think this blows over.

He has to be done. He's broken the rules for the past 3/4 years. Probably thousands of bets.

The NCAA has to enforce these rules, otherwise it will be chaos.

Am I the only one that thinks gambling SHOULD be legal and that there should be more and more access to it?

I am not even a big time gambler...5-10 dollars here and there on a few games. I hardly ever go to a casino either...but I did love online poker back in the day.

No. You are not.

But where we diverge is whether or not players should be able to gamble.

I hate gambling anything over and above your examples, because to many otherwise normal people ruin their lives, jobs, marriages, their financial future, etc.

I actually hope Sorsby gets his crap together, rebounds, has saved his NIL money, and learns from this and never bets again and flourishes wherever he lands. I don't think college is in the cards anymore, but hopefully he gets a shot at the NFL and a shot at redemption. I hate to see people screw themselves like this.

I remember just a couple years ago the inbreds to the east lost their top DT for the season over a bet on the Clarkeyes to beat LSU in the Womens final. Not his team, but his school. He lost a year of eligibility, his final one.

If Soresby is not perma banned, then gamble away boys and girls.
He’s cooked and this should not take long. Thems the rules.

Betting on your own team to win shouldn’t just be allowed, it should be celebrated & encouraged

Just like in boxing/UFC and horse racing

Just too many ways that kind of think can come off the tracks for me to ever be comfortable with it.

I had no idea jockeys and boxers cold bet on themselves though, interesting.

Close. Ramboned.
Did you see that SNL skit with Norm McDonald and Sylvester Stallone 30 years ago where Norm is dying from a car crash but still totally rips on Stallone for his terrible movies? “Rambone” made a hilarious cameo at the end when the first responders think that Norm must have been a Stallone fan after all because he died with a copy of Rambo in his hand. But upon further inspection it was Rambone, a porno.

my post had nothing to do with you, baxter. you're a good egg.

and if you're here looking for a school shooter, you found him - @RedMyMind2.0

I'd say @HBK4life_rivals100467 but I'm not sure he can fit through the front door of his tenement (fat) much less craft and execute any sort of plan (dumb)

Wow I didn’t expect that! Like I’ve mentioned you do have some good points but I don’t get the constant hate for coach Rhule, this season will tell a lot and you’ll probably be correct but it has to play out. Please tone down the hatred everyone knows your opinion by now. And of coach Rhule does crap out I’ll be the first to admit you were correct
