Sign of the times. There’s probably many more, just not the starting QB of a playoff
Team who got Caught.
Just wondering how the NCAA has any jurisdiction here, as he is a paid professional?

Betting on games involving his own team will likely mean the end of his college eligibility. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up in the Supplemental Draft this summer (though with this cloud hanging over him, maybe waiting until next April is his best option).

Sounds like the normal playbook - get caught with drugs go to rehab same with DUI. As noted they are just trying to keep him eligible, he was paid a ton of money to go to Tech winder if he has a mortals clause in that NIL deal? They betting is really getting out of hand - it id being pushed by everyone to everyone with little to no guardrails from what I have seen. Gonna be a lot of people getting their lives ruined by this.

Asked and answered: “Approximately 4% of online gamblers break even over time.”
I am 100% sure that if I gambled I’d be in the 96%. My Self-Destructive meter is currently at around 1.25 out of 100, took me a long time to get to that point, I really could be an idiot back in the day, would hit the high 80s.

The kid is going through hell now, guaranteed. Dang, not easy.

This generation has replaced drinking and social engagement with gambling and TikTok. In the old days, you used to have to get dressed and inhale cigarette smoke next to other degenerates frittering away your paycheck. Now you can do it from the comfort of your toilet.

Yes. And ESPN airs DraftKings and FanDuel and other gambling apps nonstop. Now there’s Polymarket and Kalshi where you can bet on anything. Idiocracy is upon us….

Given your math skills and the fact that you're self-destructive meter has been fixed, I have no doubt that you'd have a much greater than 4% chance of winning if you put in the work. The thing is, very few are willing to (or interested in) putting in the work...that's the part that's missed in the TV/movie/societal portrayal of winning gamblers.

I am a notoriously bad poker player. Just throwing that out there, TIFWIW.

"Texas Tech said in a statement that the university is committed to supporting Brendan through his recovery process and to ensure his long-term health and well-being."

I mean; I guess I hope his "recovery process" goes ok, but I just don't have a high level of compassion for what they are describing as a petty gambling addiction. I never have been real sensitive though.

You think someone will draft him, or sign as a free agent. His gambling has high risk written all over it for the nfl

I certainly do. Guys with smoke around sexual assaults, drugs, murders, etc get drafted/signed into pro leagues every year by teams that think the potential reward outweighs the risk.

I’m actually surprised that it’s taken this long for this to happen. It’s awful at the high school level right now, there are 15-year-old kids that somehow get accounts and are just throwing money away. They’re idiots and everything‘s gotta be like a five or six part parlay.

It's hard to squander the kind of money these idiots are getting. Some had to be left.

He didn't take a leave out of a burst of conscience. Something else was at play. He didn't suddenly wake up and say "my God, what a fool I've been".

Yea that they are publicizing this indicates they are trying to get out ahead of story and control the narrative. Which might indicate some pretty serious / embarrassing/ illegal behavior like betting on his own games or worse

Asked and answered: Yes, Sorsby bet on his Indiana team back when he was a frosh.
