I know this is an Iowa board, but anyone know if Daton Fix is still competing? Surprised we didn’t see him at the open. Before it’s all said and done, I’d love for Austin to get one back.

Not sure either would have much of a chance at 61 going forward, unless the young studs go up to 65.

Maybe they could set up a RAF match.

Desanto is 0-100 against Fix in both folk and freestyle. Don’t really need to see that one again. Wouldn’t mind one last RBY match though, this time in freestyle

If they can’t make the lighter weights this makes me Wonder where they will fit into the OkiSt. lineup, especially with them being caught in the middle weights (141-157).

They might be sitting majority of their collegiate career..
I’ve said this since the day they committed to ok state. For sure one of the two is going to be out of starting lineup for the majority of college career, if they stay at ok state that is. They would have slotted great at Iowa lineup wise.

When you look at that lineup with what is currently there and what is coming in between 133 and 157, there are going to be 2-3 top 25 dudes that get squeezed out. I think it's just a matter of at what point do the squeezed-out wrestlers realize it and do they decide that they are okay with it?
They also have a top 5ish lightweight coming in the 20:7 class. I would think Taylor will go after guys who could fit 174-184 in 28 class. Unfortunately, we also need to look for guys that could land 165-184 in 28 class, and Cael will be turning his attention to those upper weights through heavy weight I’m sure. Can we get any of the top upper and upper middle weights in 28 going head to head with these two coaches? I pray for a miracle but am afraid 28 turns out like 26 other than the two lighter weight guys we already have committed in that class. Like others have said, the real test for Taylor measuring up to his mentor is if he can keep all the blue chips that are outside looking in on the team as long term, well paid room guys??

They said when they committed they talked to Jax first about fitting in the lineup with him, and they had a plan. They forgot there is a bunch of other young studs in the light and middle weights and more to come in the next few classes. They may beat all of them out, and the other guys will be the blue chip room guys, who knows.

Raneys are pretty good. Not counting out Raneys winning starting battles and some other blue chips on pine.

Bigger Raney isn't beating Vega or Robideau.

Smaller Raney isn't beating Jax, but he should be in the lineup at either 33 or 41, whatever Jax doesn't go next year.

Figuring out Vega is going to be a PROBLEM for EVERYONE. I admit that I am partial to great defense, but, if he stays at 141, who is going to take him down if Mendez couldn't even come close?

He's going 149.

But even still, not sure i can see Valencia or Van Ness taking him down.

I hope Jax moves to 41 so we can see Jax vs. Bo
I agree. I figured Jax would go 65kg if he was going to move up to 141 next year. Otherwise there is no point holding 61kg.

I could see Bassett at 149 next year though if Henson goes 157. I think it’s better for the team to have 125 Ventresca 133 Seidel 141 Gaj 149 Bassett 157 Henson 165 Miller. That’s a nasty lineup.

I can't see Henson redshirting this year to bump into the meat grinder that is 157. Hokies will be a trophy team next year, especially if they reclassify Melvin.

You could be right about 157 but 149 is going to be a bear of a weight too with Vega, Valencia, Van Ness, little Larkin, Joy, Mendoza, whoever Michigan puts out, and Block. Plus Gaj may not want to redshirt with 5 for 5. It will be interesting to see what they do.

Jax - Bo could happen next year. Henson staying at 149.

Jax may go up in preparation for 65kg... but I could also see him staying down at 133 and going 57 for Olympics. He hasn't gotten much bigger.

Having Jax hold 133 and even 57kg for two more years would be a horrible idea. If there is one thing that could derail his career it’s cutting way too much weight and getting hurt. Taylor of all people knows this. Maybe he goes 133 one more year then moves up in 2027 but I still think him going up next year is the most likely scenario.
