Ben and KF are very similar in their approach to head coaching and culture building...it's all about relationships with players at the core and guiding young men toward successful lives.
Winning allows them to do what they see as their most important job; positive influence on developing young people.

It is like a beacon of light on a bleak college athletics landscape.
It's not supposed to be pro sports with the old Al Davis mantra of " just win,baby".....Ben and KF are aware that it has become more like that but have not yet lost sight of their dual mission...win and produce contributing members of society.

Great coach. However, as a side note, it is time for him to shave the head.

Wait, you don't miss the all time winningest coach in iowa men's basketball history? ;)
Totally didn’t mean it to be a shot to anyone. Even outside of Fran, a good comparison would be KF. As another poster noted above, lots of similarities between Ben and KF in terms of culture building, etc. But compared to KF, Ben is an open book. KF is great at coach speak and you can often piece together some of the things he’s thinking. But Ben is a lot more candid without oversharing. Both are super professional and respectful. Just seems Ben is more likely than most coaches to answer directly the specific question he is asked rather than dance around it (like politicians often do).

That said, I think Fran was usually pretty candid too. The difference is he seemed to often come across snarky (as does KF) or even angry at being asked a question. Ben might still be miffed at the question, but he answers it with his honest insights. It’s year one - hopefully that continues as the time in the spotlight grows :)

We'll see how Ben handles things if he's here 27 years. All those years in the fish bowl has made Kirk much more guarded then he was initially. Not surprising.....

I won't be here in 27 years but interesting to think about what Ben will have accomplished here after a 20 year run or so. At the same age as Kirk and I can see how the noise would get tiresome over time.

I love observing how Ben has started to evolve in his own journey and his adaptation to the changes in the landscape of college basketball. I so look forward to growing old watching some great Iowa basketball.

From what I have observed of May, its hard not to like the guy. He gives off Ben vibes.
which is likey why they are such good friends?

I still liked the comments Ben made prior to the Michigan game about Dusty. Basically saying his team was supper talented as will do well as long as they don't listen to Dusty.

was that really a question? how do plan on replacing Stirtz? hahaha
I can't get sound on my phone or tablet so can't listen for now. Curious to see what Ben said about that. Not a stupid question at all. Does he plan to start Combs at the point and break in Coleman? Maybe he will play the two together with Combs doing some of the handling. I look forward to seeing how things develop.

Ill give you the obvious answer he gave. You cant replace him the player. You get another player and coach him and that team. Hes had many PGs, including the one that proceeded Stirtz, that won 3 titles.

Coach strikes me as the perfect fit for Iowa. Love what he says, obviously love the performance from last year, next year is going to look a lot different IMHO, in a good way
