So Oak finally gave Wyers a shot at SS but was pretty unremarkable. 0-2 with a walk no Ks. Reached on FC and grounded out to SS. No errors or missed plays that I recall.

I think Oak will go right back to Woodson especially since he subbed him in the later innings.

I think Wyers should be given at least one more game.

I think they're both adequate players and you'll get the same result regardless of which one plays.

I thought Wyers struck out.

Must've been someone else. Who was at the plate when the ump quickly gave him 2 strikes? Furthermore, I couldn't figure out exactly what the transgression was, either.

In Wyers first AB he was given a strike by the ump because he stepped in the box, shuffled the dirt around, and then stepped back out of the box. Just a brain fart because he hasn't had an AB in a while. Can't remember if he K'd after that or not.

If they end up being fairly equal hitting-wise, then give me the better defender. One error every game out of your shortstop isn't cutting it.

I was hoping for Wyers to do something, but didn't make much of it. Has to be tough though when you get your shot and only get two at bats after waiting for weeks and Woodson is back in before the game is over.

Well maybe but stats don't tend to support this. Woodson leads the regular starters in Ks and has the second lowest BA, the lowest OPS, SLG%, and OB% among all regular starters. Wyers has 6K/9BB in 48 AB. Woodson 48K/17BB in 156 AB. The sample size on Wyers for SEC play is very small however.

Right, and Wyers is obviously pressing when finally getting AB's after weeks of pine time. Even then I think he showed why he's more ready for SEC pitching than Woodson solely by not striking out in three plate appearances.

I think there may be more to it. The way Oak yanked his butt from that recent game after he dogged it down to first in his first AB makes me think coach already had some issues with him.

Maybe not.

Woodson has really been struggling. He started the season reasonably well, so his numbers in league play must be terrible.

Too bad Mershon is apparently not ready to push for time.

Right, nor did he hit a lazy can of corn to the outfield about 200 feet from the plate. He at least put the ball in play on the ground twice and made the defense make a play.

You may be on to something. He could have some discipline issues. In all fairness to Wyers I would lose my mind watching Woodson be so bad in SEC play and not getting a reasonable look. Woodson is our weakest link.

He's a catcher, no?

Yeah, they list him as utility and I don't remember him catching at all this year. He definitely was in HS. I thought I read something about them using him in the infield but I may be making that up.

Wyers is at his 4th straight school. I could see there being an attitude issue.

Although when I've watched him play it seemed like he played hard.

Either way I think Woodson has cemented himself. His 2 out at-bat Friday night was insane.

It's disappointing. He was getting some clutch hits early (and got one Friday, even if it wasn't much of a swing).

I thought he'd improve as the season went on since this was his first significant college playing time, but it hasn't happened.

I still like his potential, but he needs to get to work in the off-season.

It’s amazing if we only give Wyers 3 ABs to go back to a guy we gave a month to get right. Starting with game 3 against Georgia, Woodson is 6-47 with 16Ks and doesn’t field well.

There's also the small matter of Woodson ranking 3rd in the SEC in errors, and the official scorer has been kind to him by not charging him with errors on more than one occasion.

I don't think that any of us are intentionally trying to bash the kid, but the stats really beg the question... what exactly is he providing the team? That game tying RBI was a nice start

Correct. He was not charged with an error for the pop fly he lost track of Saturday night. He kicked on against Memphis they ruled a hit too.

I've said this before, but one of the more impressive things I've seen this year is Frei turning himself into what appears to me to be an above average defender at 2B.

I was worried about that coming into the season and it has not been an issue at all.

Our catchers say hello. We have lost SEC 3 games due to missed third strikes.

Once Wyers calms down at the plate he will be fine. Lots of potential in that guy. Hopefully he gets more midweek reps, he needs that.

Catcher and SS are by far our worst positions. It’s close but I’d still say Woodson is worse. At least Milewski can hit it out of the park and Chone James can rake. Woodson is just having an all around terrible SEC season. Can’t hit. Can’t field. No power.
