And save the scholarships for next year and maybe a new coach...
You are living in the past. The “save scholarships for next year” thing makes ZERO sense in this new era.

In the past that could be a legit strategy when there was a concern that you might not have enough available scholarships next year because of all the returning players. But that NEVER EVER happens now when you have 15 schollies and most of your team leaves every year.

If you played college prior to 2020, you have about 3 years of eligibility left with chinavid, nil and the tp…no need to worry about your education since it’s all about sports now…give pope a call!

I’d rather have some of the guys we passed on rather than no one - like Dynes or Morton Or Feldhaus . New economics & numbers make taking a player easier.
NIL & Revenue sharing - then Scholarships to 15 ( no walk ons)- then 5 in 5- seem to be “bass ackwards“ & out of sync. Gotta be tough on planning past one year.

I definitely agree 100% with your last sentence.
It sure seems like a one-year proposition everywhere now. You lose, many move on. You win, many still move on. Coaching successfully has to be much harder now than ever before.

No reason to save scholarships any more. Just tell them you won't pay for next year and if they stay on its for free. they leave on their own. Any new coach will have 15 scholarships if he wants them fairly easily.
