If Jan could get two or three of these here, the team would be really strong:

IMO, Keira Hanson is really the only one that is a “for-sure” good candidate for Iowa. Jessica Peterson is a “Maybe” if the price is right. (Both are one and done.) The rest are all solid “Thanks but no thanks” for various reasons.

The upcoming visitor from Georgia, Jocelyn Faison, is interesting. Only a sophomore to be, teammate of Carnegie last season, athletic and very low usage so could be a bargain. Judging from her minimal stats, looks like a very good rebounder (especially offensive), good defender with steals and blocks, excellent assists to turnovers but 0-7 on 3-pointers. I think she is very similar to Hannah Stuelke. If her price is right and expectations are modest for a role strictly at the “4”, then I am totally in favor (especially if McCowan does not join the team). PT would be dependent on her 3-point shooting development. Still I would probably prefer Aaliyah Roberson (speculative one and done grad transfer from TCU with proven 3-point range and small-ball 5 capability) for that role if I had to choose between the two.

Watch the ESPN highlight video fro Georgia vs. Furman. Yes, it's 4th quarter Furman, but does that spin move and bucket (7:15 4th) look anything like something Hannah could do? Nope. There is a ton of upside with Faison, maybe especially on defense. Athleticism is something so many complain about, but also I see people pining for these players that don't have "quickness."

So I admit that my comparison to HS was strictly judging from her minimal stats. I did see one video clip highlight that clearly shows her to be much more guard-like physically than HS. It appears that she is closer to Woliczko than HS in that respect. I do think she projects as a forward and not a guard (as she is listed on Georgia’s roster) in Iowa’s preferred 4-out offense if she can develop her 3-point shot. As a sophomore to be, she would be competing for PT with Fr Woliczko and Soph Houston. That is a potentially very exciting young and athletic trio of forwards if Iowa can sign her. I actually prefer Faison to McCowan in the long run but with McCowan being one and done I could see Iowa bringing both of them onboard (provided they have the money to do so). My number one wish for the backup “4” role (Roberson) is not realistic.

Judging only from her stats, I think Hanson projects as a bench version of McCabe but, like Roberson, I don’t think there is much chance of her coming to Iowa.

It is truly amazing reading about who Jan should recruit from the couch coaches on this site. I think Jan and her staff know what they need, what they have to spend and who is in the portal. We have already improved the roster with additions.

Carnegie is a huge improvement over any CG previously on the roster.

Whiting brings more offense than Kylie and is a solid defender.

Woliczko is long and athletic. Much better perimeter game than Hanna, she's going to surprise with her rebounding.

I feel confident the role spots will be filled nicely.

Exactly, but isn't it more fun to whine about the fact that Iowa doesn't have unlimited funds or the bench isn't loaded with 5 star talent?

The staff are definitely working toward having a more athletic roster.

It's even worse than that.
Oliviyah Edwards (#3 '26 now to South Carolina) decommits as Tennessee roster shrinks ...
Tennessee women's basketball has 0 players on roster after transfer exodus - Yahoo Sports

The point being it's no longer a death sentence.

After the prior season, ND lost a lot during a mass exodus. Look where they came back to already and they have a strong '26 recruiting class coming in this season as well.

We might even be surprised at where UCLA ends up this coming year. They pick up another double-digit player from a very good P4 team and they can be right back near the top of the B1G again. She gets those women to quick pass it around in her Princeton motion offense and there's no guarantee we win against them this year even with all their big loses to the W.

It will be interesting to see if Coach Caldwell at Tennessee adjusts her style of play next year, Her use of heavy platooning seemed to be a factor in the unhappiness amongst players, Top minutes per game was two players averaging 26 minutes per game, Then 23,23, and 22. In this day and age stats add value and most really good players would likely want to be in the 35-36 minutes per game range vs 26 minutes per game.

Certainly that's another side effect of players getting paid. Need those stats to push next years payout. Really damages the playing your role for the team concept.

The team basically mutineed against her this season. Will be interesting to see how long her leash is. 5 in 5 out I’m not sure is going to work in the SEC.

OK, maybe I’m a Nervous Nelly, but we need another shooter soon before they are gone!! (AKA Taylor McCabe). I know many are in the “win now“ mode and feel we need another “4” type player. Someone bigger than what we have. I believe that would be a mistake for the long run. Would that not get in the way of McKenna’s development ? She needs a ton of minutes this coming year to develop for Ava and CC’s senior season. If you believe she Is a big part of the 27-28 season then let’s play her and let her grow through her mistakes. I don’t want someone in her way taking minutes and creating another “Deal” situation.

Give me a 5-11 guard who can shoot 3s. We have 3 others that can but on the smaller size. Would like to see a guard that can board as well AND guard taller guards on other teams.

Talia finally updated her tracker. TN has picked up 11 players in the portal to date. ~74 pts come from non-mid major teams. The top 2 mid-majors had the most points but that rarely translates to the next level. It's hard to say if Kim Caldwell will be an uniter or a divider this coming season.

I was reading an article some time ago where they did research on Kim's full court pressure defense and it stated that usually within 2 years opposition finds a way to defeat it. It only took ~1.5 years to figure out Kim. Iirc, TN lost like 9 games in a row towards or at the end of the season.

It's just too taxing on your offense even with hockey style subs. Shots fall short. To me the biggest problem with it is getting a player or multiple players in the zone to go off when you take them out early to rest. Don't want to break a player's rhythm built up where the basket looks like an ocean to them. Nothing worse than a coach sabotaging their own team.

Maybe I understand the thread title differently than you. Plus, there was a question and comment regarding TN's situation which qualifies as portal news this cycle,

Because someone said how Tennessee was killing it. You know, the majority of our fans think a team that lost their entire team but is now picking up an entire new team is killing it. And others wonder why we aren’t picking up new players every day. Damn it, where is the news? lol.

That post was intended to question Jan and her staff's recruiting. If all this esoteric BS is going to be on a Hawkeye board then I will sit this out for now. Anybody with half a brain knows Tennessee bought their last team and they've bought this team.

Chazadi's nickname is Chit Chat. If you want to be a pedantic dick, at least be correct.
