Has the Thunder soured you on SGA?

Kentucky fans are gonna make me start to dislike SGA, arent they?

One thing I really like about SGA is that despite his foul-baiting, he rarely gets on the refs or does any sort of moaning or theatrics towards the refs. Hes pretty emotionless that way and just goes about his business. I definitely appreciate that when you compare him to Luka, LeBron, and most of the NBA.

Hes also not even close to Jordan, though. Not even in the same stratosphere and he wont be for a while. I dont think people understand how hard it is to win 6 NBA titles. And Jordan did it in a different era while taking two years off. Also, im not sure at any single point in Jordan's career, did he have a team as good as what SGA has with this OKC team.. probably not even in the same ballpark.

I wish they'd change the rule where if you get a defender off his feet via a pump fake, you can't intentionally jump into him to draw a foul. SGA rightfully uses this to get to the line, but it's not exciting basketball to watch.

Also, a FT should count for 2 points (and you only should get 1 FT per foul) until the 4th quarter. This would speed the game up considerably.

But back to SGA, I watched the game yesterday. Dude is one of the few players who have a real midrange game. I love watching him play.

He's as close to the word elegant as a basketball player gets.

The flopping stuff needs to be managed though - it's pretty gross to watch.

I hate on the NBA all of the time. They’ve eliminated much of the physicality that marked the league for so long, analytics have taken the variation in styles of play away as most teams look very similar in style of play and there’s too much grace given to the offensive player as far as palming and traveling with the ball.
Having said that, the players of today are so talented and skilled 1-5. They make plays look routine that if you’ve ever played basketball, you know are anything but. The shooting ability and ball skills are off the chart.

I can’t hate on SGA and the Thunder though. A small market team with SGA who has put in the work and plays at his own pace and gets to where he wants on the court without being obviously cat quick or hyper athletic. He’s a cerebral player who understands change of pace and angles better than about anyone.
I have a hard time hating them.

It’s not. His season last year was the best statistical year since Jordan in the mid 90’s. He’s followed that with numbers that’s even better and will likely win back to back mvps. If they win the title again, especially with their second best player hurt, there’s no way you can deny the comparison.

I can deny the comparison. Problem with you kiddos (jk), you always want to anoint them before they earn the crown. Looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong way to go before he needs to be getting Jordan comparisons.

Oh sweet it’s another greatest player of all time that comes along every other year apparently.

It’s the best defense played in the world.

If a guy can’t play defense he’s not making it in the NBA unless he’s an offensive juggernaut like Luka, Harden or Carmelo.
Thank you. Goofiest take on here is that the NBA plays no defense. You don’t get court time in the league without good defense, outside of a few specialists or superstars.

A large part of the Thunders success lately is that they are a defensive juggernaut. Wemby win unanimous dpoy but Chet honestly had a legit argument. quite a few of his advanced defensive metrics were better than wemby.

Cason wallace was a borderline all nba first team defense as well. And Jalen Williams when healthy is one of the best 2 way wings in the league.

then they bring Alex Caruso off the bench. They are choking the life out of the Suns in this series.

Haven’t watched an NBA game for prolly 20 years. So no, not soured. No chance to sour me.
Not sure how the league survives

As JJ Reddick said it's not because they can't play D or don't try, it's because the players are so skilled and the spacing is so good. "They don't play defense" is such a stupid claim

No not at all. The people who cry about him constantly are butt hurt MJ and Kobe fans.. 😂

It would kill them if I told them that the NBA literally changed the rules for MJ so that he couldn’t be double teamed and because he cried about getting fouled too hard. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Yeah but Mike did it like this a long long time. SGA needs about 4 more championships and a few MVPs to be in that group. With Jordan I mean. He’s on his way to something special no doubt. I hope he stays healthy.
Of course. He's not MJ. But he's doing things only MJ has done. So he is hopping over a lot of names.

So you never saw the Bulls play? Bulls were pretty unbeatable. Maybe not the 10 deep depth of an OKC, but their first 8 was substantially better.

The bulls and rhis OKC team are built a lot alike. The Bulls didn’t have a Holmgren. But OKC’s version of Pippen has missed most of this season.

But both teams were basically one stud guard(Jordan/SGA) surrounded by a bunch of phenomenal role players and floor stretchers.

The Bulls did win 55 games the season after Jordan went to play baseball. Just sayin…so they had a pretty good roster.

He’s definitely making a big case for himself to be named with the best of the best. I knew the young man had a ton of skill, but I don’t think anyone could’ve predicted what he would do so far. If he keeps playing like he already is, he’s right there at the top of the list with the best to ever play. I don’t see how he can improve very much because he’s already playing the game like everyone else is standing around. lol. If he does improve, he’s going to break every offensive record in the game.

They were taking his head off his damn shoulders every play. It was more MMA against Jordan than defense!! Still couldn’t stop him. Anyone who grew up during his play days saw it. Not one player since Mike played is even close to him as a player. None. And yes Lebum shouldn’t even be mentioned in the same sentence. Talk about a crying piece of trash. Also, This “it would kill them” talk doesn’t apply to people 40 plus. Nothing could kill us because we are the bad in badasss! No words can bother us because we’re real Men , not crying babies over everything said. I’m sorry you didn’t get the chance to watch Jordan during his career, you missed something that will never be seen again.

Yesterday, I texted my friend a Duke fan. "SGA becoming the best NBA player ever from UK is like Frank Jackson becoming the best Duke player. I never saw this coming."

Dennis Rodman is one of the best defensive players ever. HOF

Toni Kukoc was one of the best international players ever. HOF

Ron Harper was also on his way to be an All-Star before an injury. And became one of the best defenders.
