Good grief. If you’re playing for defense, that play has to be made. Two chances to get out of the inning and we blew them both.

Good start from the defense. At least Carter is really good on offense to make up for the error..
Well, this kind of stinks. I’m not going to be real happy if we can’t get our act together after driving all the way to dook.
What a terrible start. Get beat with 2 outs beating the shift. Horrible throw by Nicholson. Then a drop by French on an easy play in RF. Then proceed to throw the ball in the dugout. Wake the heck up!

That was one of the most interesting (not in a good way) first inning three-spots I've ever seen. Not a good defensive look for the Tar Heels. First a throw from Cooper that moves Paulsen off the bag then the double error play. The reliable and normally perfect defender Carter French does not catch the ball (I think loses it somewhere in the sun) and a throwing error from Gavin allows all three runs to cross the plate.
Good news is we are back to the top of the order as Nunez and French manage to make 3 outs on 2 ground outs.
I’m kind of over playing Carter French for defense after that. they’re leaving better overall players on the bench to get Carter in the lineup. It almost feels like they like the story for Carter too much to bench him but that’s probably me reading entirely too much into things
The thing is I haven’t seen any proof any of those guys would do better than a .365 OBP and to that point the defense difference has been significant. But that was really bad, no question about it.
He had a .637 ops last year and .618 ops coming into the game today. That’s not good enough.
Turf baseball fields this far south should be outlawed
Hargett basically never going to get another chance for a play not that bad (obviously he doesn’t have the defensive history of french)
Bottom line: for this team to reach what it wants to, Ryan Lynch has to be better. He’s got electric stuff, but he’s not has the fastball for basically a month.
