Jeramiah Dickey was named Boise State University’s Director of Athletics on Jan. 2, 2021, joining the Broncos from Baylor University, where he had served as Associate Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics since February 2017.

Dickey’s tenure at the helm of Boise State Athletics is best encapsulated as “What’s Next,” a phrase that expresses both the athletic department’s strategic plan and its forward-thinking mindset. The success of “What’s Next” has translated into 42 team and individual conference championships since Dickey’s arrival, record-breaking academic performance and fundraising support, facility improvements that have impacted every Bronco student-athlete, and a reimagined experience for Bronco student-athletes and staff.

In March 2025, Dickey was named a NACDA AD of the Year. He was also named a nominee for the 2025 Sports Business Journal AD of the Year.

Would be an absolutely fantastic hire. Great background and as far away from Mitch as possible.
I know there is on the surface information about him, but what makes you believe he would be a fantastic hire. Would love to know the reason. Not saying it's bad. I am just curious. He could be a homerun hire. Like what makes him a "fit" over someone else? I am genuinely asking.

The Baylor connection gives me pause. If you have spent any time in Waco, you will know just how cultish and insular those people are. It's one reason I didn't want Scott Drew anywhere near this program.
Boise is a very different culture fit than the SEC as well. Look at what happened at Auburn with Harsin.

Just a few things I thought were positive take aways:

- Younger guy, very clear on being progressive with sports programs. Essentially, he runs things the exact opposite way Mitch does. There is no good ole boys club, whoever can adapt and win in the current times are going to be candidates for our coaching positions
- Got Boise State to the college football playoff in 2024
- Big part of Boise's move to the Pac 12
- Lot of facility and technological upgrades for sports programs, with many more in progress
- Did I mention he has nothing to do with Mitch Barnhart?

Fair enough! So basically, he would have a high chance to fire Pope after his 3rd year?

interesting that his name is mentioned, or anyone's outside UK is mentioned at this point

I want the new AD to be outside of the current UK regime, but I don't like that this guy has never made a men's basketball hire. Their current coach, Leon Rice, has been there since 2010. Whoever gets this job will, barring a miracle turnaround (or UK just throwing in the towel on our flagship program for the foreseeable future), have to make a men's basketball hire within their first year in the job. He did fire an underperforming football coach in the middle of his third season and replace him with a coach (on staff) who has been an improvement, so he has it in him to move on quickly. I just hope whoever it is has a network of deep and valuable connections (think Duke and their Nike GM) that will be crucial for UK to compete and win in this modern climate.

Well hell this sounds promising. FACILITY IMPROVEMENTS would be #1 on my list, followed by #1b - firing Pope and hiring a new coach, then #1c hiring a basketball GM and killing the JMI middle man.

Their fans actually weren't that impressed with Danielson this year. Even without Jeanty they underperformed a bit with the talent they had.

From a first blush gut perspective, while Boise basketball is not UK basketball, Boise State seem to have really improved over the past decade having made the transition to a tougher conference but having more consistent winning seasons. Seem this would be good for football, but not having experience in the SEC is a detriment.

Can’t hire an AD based off a move they may or not have to make in their very first year on the job. I get that MBB is the breadwinner but there are dozens of other programs to consider as well. If you’re hiring him to begin with, that means you believe he’s competent and capable, so it shouldn’t be a worry.

I mean none of us really have any choice but to roll with whoever Eli, the board, and the big money people decide to hire so all I can do is hope they're competent and capable 🤷‍♂️.

And while it sounds nice to say that there are dozens of other programs to consider, there are really only two. Football and UK's flagship program, men's basketball. The other sports are nice and I hope we do well, but those are the two you have to get right as a big time college AD, especially at UK. Football looks to be trending in the right direction under Stein and he seems to have a winning mentality. Hopefully that is able to translate into on the field success in the next couple of years. MBB, however, truly looks to be in a bleak position with a nice guy but a bad personality fit leading it, and any prospective AD shouldn't accept this job without the understanding that a coaching change will likely need to be made soon.

We need an outsider. And I would like it to be someone who places equal emphasis on basketball and football. So the Boise guy actually sounds like a step in the right direction to me.

From what I have read he’s on the younger end and is well equipped for the NIL era.

That’s a big plus for me. Last thing we need is an older person using the UK AD position to ride off into retirement while trying to run the place like it’s 2002.

I’m not saying this guy os or will be the best candidate, but his resume and philosophy doesn’t seem bad at all.

Icgaf about titles in 42 genders of volleyball. What did basketball and football look like before he got there versus now?

Probably a dumb question, but if Mitch's new job is eliminated is he back to AD? I assume not... he is just gone...
