Both of them have a career high of S16. What exactly makes Pope better? BCG recruited Patterson, Liggins, and Meeks if I'm not mistaken?
Yea BCG sucked at UK. His S16 was elsewhere. But his recruits still played a large role in Calipari's initial success. It's not looking like Pope will have any such gifts to leave the next coach.
It's not even close. Neither coach should have ever been hired to coach here (Thanks Mitch), but dude, BCG had better rosters both years, but he:
-Lost to Gardner Webb at home BY SIXTEEN
-Lost to UAB at home
-Lost to VMI at home
-Zero SECT wins
-Zero NCAAT wins
-27 total losses in 2 years against (see next line)
-SOS was 42nd in year 1 and 66th in year 2
-11 seed in year 1
-NIT in year 2
-Lost 7 home games in year 1, including 1 at Memorial
-Best win in 2 years, was @ unranked Tennessee when Meeks scored 54.
Pope doesn't have any of those things on his UK resume. Our SOS the last 2 years… #3 and #4. Ended year 1 ranked #12 and has 3 NCAAT wins, including a sweet 16. Pope never lost to a mid major while at UK.
BCG's best win, doesn't even break Pope's top 10 wins at UK.
I agree that Pope isn't a UK caliber coach, never should have been hired, but he's not even close to BCG on the suckage scale. That hyberbole comparison just needs to stop. It's not close.
Heck, I didn't even mention the drinking issues BCG had here.
