They might have better PR if they just kept their mouths shut about whether they thought someone was committing or not. They build up expectations that a commitment is eminent and then they look like fools when it falls through. Like with Wright, I genuinely think he wanted to be back at BYU from the get go, but he had to play portal chicken to get them to raise his NIL. And Pope took the bait hook, line, and sinker evidently not realizing the guy didn't want to be at UK unless BYU refused to budge on price. Even then, probably wouldn't pulled a Freeman and started shopping around elsewhere if BYU balked.

UK doesn't. The staff doesn't. They aren't allowed to comment publicly about recruits, so they don't. It's been like this for 30+yrs.

All of the hand-wringing and the rest of the drama is self-inflicted because fans freak out over rumors.

This reminds of me Patrick Patterson when everyone thought he was going to Florida and Billy Donovan and he committed to UK when no one thought he was going to.
Yes, I thought about this too and that was our first McDA in several years. One that we desperately needed

Pope is not BCG bad. He is nowhere near UK standards good, not even in the same zip code, but he is not Clyde bad.
Both of them have a career high of S16. What exactly makes Pope better? BCG recruited Patterson, Liggins, and Meeks if I'm not mistaken?

Yea BCG sucked at UK. His S16 was elsewhere. But his recruits still played a large role in Calipari's initial success. It's not looking like Pope will have any such gifts to leave the next coach.

Tubby recruited Meeks. Billy recruited Darius Miller and Orton, a top 10 ranked recruit.

We're going miss on a guy who's strung us along for over a year with no intention of coming here, then get locker'd by Mick f'in Cronin on the Tounde Yessoufou pivot. Embarrassing.

If pope quits now, he will leave the next coach, a John wall, Eric Bledsoe type backcourt

If you want to hear embarrassing, go listen to the sleeper's video today discussing the CJ Rosser recruitment.

I’ll add, Tubby recruited Patterson. BCG was the coach when he signed but Tubby is who got him to Lexington. IMHO
Billy G got him. He did a thorough in home visit detailing his entire schedule and development plan at UK which impressed him. When Jai Lucas committed to Florida on that Black Monday when UK lost Bea Hamga to UNLV, and Sanchez to John Pelpehey and Arkansas, Billy texted Patterson and said be a leader not a follower as it was expected Jai Lucas and Patterson would both go to Florida.

My guess is Oregon which got in just hours ago. Same happened with St Johns when it was supposed to be Alabama or UK. Have to wonder if Stokes was going to KU and Nike stepped in when he said he did not want to play for Ky due to concern about Pope. And then Nike offered up tons of Nike NIL money to keep him closely tied to the Nike brand.

I don’t care if he comes or not, but if he goes to Kansas he should have to pay back Nike a tremendous amount of money. I’m sure he signed stuff when he connected with Nike in the first place.

Even if we get Stokes, what other players could we REALISTICALLY get to out around him? Zoom, Wilkins, Stokes, Kam, and Moreno as the starting 5 with Trent, Reece, Mason Williams, and Braydon doesn’t exactly inspire confidence tbh.
That is actually pretty good. Better than last year.
Hypothetically, and I don't expect to pull this kid or any other star under our current dud of a coach, but we'd have a really good starting lineup minus the four if we got him.

Diallo
Wilkins
Stokes
*******
Moreno
A European stretch 4.
