Political opinions aside (and I hope we can keep it that way), this has to be the best thing I and we've seen happen at UK in years. We beat on Mitch and Eli because they deserve it with what they're doing to the school's athletic programs - most importantly basketball - but this may finally be the thing that we've all been wanting.
The Governor of the state (again, disregarding political side choosing because that adds nothing to this discussion) is openly calling out the garbage we've all been bitching about for years, but more importantly this million dollar parachute for Barney the Clown.

And not to be forgotten in all of this, the 10 lifetime lower level tickets Barney requested. I assume he was definitely going to monetize those..
No idea, but just that he called this out publicly should excite every one of us. Hopefully saying things and bringing it to light is enough to get this ball rolling and get these clowns out of control of the UK athletic department.
I’m going to guess it has more to do with the fact that regular employees and professors are pissed off that a guy that doesn’t have enough skill to flip burgers is currently being paid a million dollars a year to do nothing more so than anything to do with athletics.
The timing of this tweet being within a couple of hours of the Donovan news is 100% coincidental, but boy does it pique my "I hope this is related" conspiracy part of my brain! 
Most likely, but the side effect we all want is Mitch is gone and we can FINALLY get an AD that wants to improve things rather than squander - give $1mil a year to a clown or spend that on a new practice facility? So while it's not related to the school's athletic performance (or lack thereof), it can be directly impactful to the program, in a positive way.
He appoints the Board of Trustees and therefore should have serious influence with them .
You are right. Folks on campus are not happy about things. Then for Eli to say there will be cuts and then asking for money.
Pope's former teammates need to do an intervention on him now. Resign, move on, and try to save what's left of your legacy. Hanging on for another horrible year (possibly the worst yet) will do irreparable damage.

This has been going on for at least two decades. It was corrupt during Lee Todd's reign and only worsened under this regime that's in power now. At least someone of import is finally calling it out.

If the Governor pressured hard enough with funds or potential investigations they would fire the whole lot of them in a heartbeat.
He probably too sacred to show his little head right now after whiffing on an entire high school and portal class.
Van Tatenhove’s conservative beliefs and rulings are probably diametrically opposite 99% of the UK faculty. He also ruled against Beshear on at least one occasion in a case involving Beshear’s Covid executive orders.
UK needs a shake up. I hope this gets the ball rolling.

I thought the same thing when I saw the OP. This is nuts, and, also, gives me a glimmer of hope in these dark times at UK... I only wish the statement made it 100% clear he's talking about Mitch's new job. Who knows what other phony positions are being created.

Thank you. I suspected something like this was at play. But what I don’t understand is, how did he get the appointment? I wasn’t aware that the present UK administration, which presumably made the hire, was so amenable to conservative influence. (Forgive me if that’s obvious; I live out of state and hadn’t been keeping up with the university’s politics.)
Hmmm, assuming this is real, it would have been cool if a governor stepped in with a similar message when UK football was mismanaged for years…
