Freshman. I guess he is now a pitcher only since he was hitting 98 in high school and he may be redshirting since he has only played in two games total between pitching and in the field but he was
Rated the top prep catcher in Mississippi by Perfect Game and the No. 6 overall prospect ... Perfect Game also rated him the No. 15 catching prospect in the country. Hit .411 with 10 home runs and 43 RBIs as a senior in high school.

I just wondered why he saw no catching action when Milewski was hurt and he is not even listed as a catcher.

Because he will be a pitcher. The only way for him to redshirt is to have an injury at this point.

I understand that and with a 98 mph fastball, he should be looking to be a pitcher, but with how bad our catching situation was with Milewski out and how highly he was ranked as a catcher, I would think that he would get some looks as a catcher since his redshirt was burned.

Talk about unfair differences in rules. In spring sports, if you play one time the redshirt is burned while in football or basketball you can play 1/4 of the season:

Division I: Any Game Appearance Burns Your Redshirt

Division I spring sports follow the strictest policy in college athletics.

The one-play rule:

  • Play one inning in baseball = a season used
  • Compete in one tennis match = season used
  • Run in one track event = season used
  • Minutes don't matter, appearances do
What counts against you:

  • Any varsity game appearance
  • Any junior varsity game appearance

I don't think it's that easy to just move someone to catcher in the middle of the season, even if he did play the position in high school. Not to mention he's still a true FR and the other guys are experience college players. And yeah the fall sports redshirt rules are bullsh*t.

It shouldn't be that hard to move him to catcher, its not like his high school catching days were 7 years ago. He is a true freshmens. After seeing how the other two guys behind Milewski performed behind the plate, he would have to be better. I really hate to bash State players who are giving it their all, but those two are not good behind the plate.
