1. Rick Pitino desperately wants the Kentucky job after his fall from grace and after seeing his archrival, Calipari, leave the position open (knowing he’ll be able to get revenge on Cal in the SEC).

2. Mitch Barnhart refuses to offer Rick the job.

3. Rick then attempts to aid in the hiring of Mark Pope, his former captain of a national championship team, knowing full well that the ’96 team will be used to get fans on board with Pope. So, Rick sends a video telling fans they should support Pope.

4. This leads to the moment at Big Blue Madness where the ’96 team is celebrated and gives Rick his ONLY chance to sneakily win the fanbase back—earning a standing ovation at Rupp and delivering a speech.

5. Rick knows Mark Pope is going to struggle, especially given Pope’s personality and the pressure of Kentucky. This ultimately leads to the situation we are in currently, with seemingly every recruiting win or loss determining Pope’s future there.

6. Mitch Barnhart leaves, giving Pitino his first real opportunity in decades to return to “Camelot.” But Rick has to do something first…something devious to his former Captain... he has to get Mark Pope fired.

7. Knowing full well this is Pope’s make-or-break year, and that Pope has half a roster and not many options left he swoops in and steals Donnie Freeman at the last minute, setting in stone the fate of Kentucky’s season and Mark Pope’s coaching career at Kentucky.

8. The new head coach of Kentucky basketball: Rick Pitino.

Not sure Slick Rick's master-stroke would hinge on one transfer player with an injury history, but I do enjoy some college basketball fan-fic. Pitino does make for an excellent villain though. He's our Skeletor

Richard is probably just as qualified as Mark Pope.
Just a comparable question:
Who has Richard ever beaten in his previous stops? Anyone of significance?
I know the only thing he can compare to his dad is he also coached a Mashburn.
That's it.

1 problem genius.
Pitino is 73 years old, will be 75 before could start Fall 2027. If he is even still coaching then, just how much longer do you think he goes? One, maybe two more years.

He's had several appearances in the tournament including a couple wins. To be absolutely crystal clear, I do NOT want Richard Pitino as the head coach. It was more of a statement of how unqualified Mark Pope is.

That’s where it gets even weirder.

Rick Pitino was bitten by a vampire bat while searching for Wayne Turner when he got lost on a snowmobile. Since then he’s been Nosferatu, commonly known as a vampire. Since he is undead time is immaterial to him, hence he will become the next and last coach of UK men’s basketball.

You may recall that in 2008 he urged, publicly, that UK hire Travis Ford or John Pelphrey.

He’s done this before.

It will never happen, but is there any UK fan alive who wouldn't take a 75 year old Rick Pitino over prime Mark Pope?
yea, its dumb we went 1> Hurley (said NO).... 2> Scott Drew (said NO thankfully) ..... THEN straight to Mark Pope who should have been like #126 on a list of coaches to ask.

Pitino should have been the guy if we really had No's from like 10 other candidates but we didn't even ask 10 qualified candidates like UNC*** did.

Mitch Sucks, plain and simple, hell we should have swallowed pride and hired Pitino in 2007 when tubby left.... In some other alternate universe that happened and the world is right.

I would probably still take Pitino at age 75 for a 3 year contract if we couldn't get any good Yes's from qualified candidates. It's called a stop gap hire. Same with hiring Bruce Pearl out of retirement for a 3 to 5 year contract.

I will beat this dead X'n Horse FOREVER
