No it’s not - but this is the world we’re in right now and we have some fans who think we shouldn’t consider spending anything close to 30% of our budget on a center. This is Econ 101 - supply and demand. We’re going to get complete garbage at center / PF if we don’t shell out money. Size can’t be be developed. There are only so many even modestly proven guys who have it.
I’ve been in favor of spending 5-6 million of our alleged 8.5 on center and power forward

if it’s 7.5 then spend 4.5-5

whatever we have 2/3 to 3/4 of it needs to be on front court ESPECIALLY if we’re running back our entire backcourt which it looks like we are

My guess is enough $ for one more starting big … one avg bench piece like 8th 9th man and the other 3 spots very back end fillers

This is assuming you think powers Davis Buchanan and backup portal big is a suitable bench

with Make Francis Smith Gurdak and starting portal big

Add the kid from Manhattan, a decent back up 5, and call it a day. I say decent because I've watched Gurdak go up and down the court, and he's not giving you more than 28 mpg.

Agreed. We need more than one. Did the Hofstra kid sign anywhere yet? Probably a long shot but I’d love to get him.

Yes agreed that’s why I cited starting big and a decent backup

backup is going to play 20+ minutes between playing the 4 and 5 so should be attractive for playing time

Id be shocked wore than 24
Was clearly his best game of the season, but against Virginia he played 46 minutes, had one foul, scored 17 points on 7-10 shooting and had 19 rebounds. If he can stay on the court half as long with anywhere that level of energy and production we will be way better off at the center position. He looks built like a tank and reminds me of Purdue’s center Cluff.

We do not need a point guard nor shall we waste that money. Lino mark will be our starting point guard and JMichael Davis will be his backup. Stop any other narrative . Francis, a potentially improving Powers and the freshman Wooten will be the 2 guard .we are set there as well.
Smith will start. Gurdak will start. Then hopefully another center rim protector with lob catching abilities is signed. Then Buchanan and Duarte back up Smith or Buchanan starts with a smaller lineup. Would love another big bruiser . Portal closing in less than a week. Rumor has it guys are waiting on the 5 year ruling before jumping to transfer. We will see this last week

Yes we do! More specifically Pikes career needs one, if he wants to be here after next season.

That lineup might, depending on the continued development of younger players, get you into the top half of the BigTen…which would de facto mean NCAA bubble. All five are comfortable with the ball in their hands and putting it on the deck and above all getting buckets.

24 minutes would be good. He's not in the greatest physical shape, played 28 minutes tje game before that Virginia game and never hit those #'s again. Gets himself in better shape, maybe we could hope for a little more.

I tend to agree, but Richie has been pretty adamant they are looking for a starting guard still.

There were a lot of dumb takes when everyone was having their dramatic childish outbursts.
Some childish yes but I think people are fairly or unfairly depending on perspective putting a magnifying glass on this offseason and season because it’s the first truly HOT SEAT season for pike since he’s been here and that’s how things typically go from an optics perspective

he’s winning half the battle by making positive moves … the real test is whether he can turn it into results on the court and the fact of the matter as while he’s winning the portal on paper compared to previous years we still don’t truly know if he’s going to hit or miss and won’t know Those answers until January next year at the earliest

for now he’s calmed the masses

I can’t argue with that because it’s reasonable. A week ago there weren’t a lot of reasonable takes here.

This roster isn’t finished and it’s definitely an upgrade vs last year. Multiple scoring options. Just need to gel and play D.

Last year —————-> Next year

JMike/Mark ———> Mark/JMike
Francis/Zrno/Powers -> Francis/Powers/Wooten
Buchanan/Nwuli —> SMITH/Buchanan/DUARTE
Grant/Nwuli/Badalau —> SYDNOR/Buchanan
Ogbole/Dortch ———> GURDAK/ ?? / Ware

So we just replaced our entire starting front court. With better players across the board.

Need another 4/5 for the rotation and starting PG and then let’s roll!

GM paying dividends early

According to Aaron Breitman’s guesstimates we have spent 6+ million and have 2+ million more to spend. Not sure if his numbers are accurate or not.

still need another center and another player possibly a taller guard or maybe just the best player we can get.

The starting PG is already on the team: Pike is going to let Lino push the ball. We will be a running, pressing team, led by Lino.
I agree that Lino Mark is very likely going to be the starting point guard next season. Personally I think he is an exciting player that has a good chance to be a star even though he needs to improve his passing when he penetrates especially now that he has a center and forwards who can catch the ball and finish around the rim. The coaches need to work on refining his game and if he can pick up the craftiness Francis shows he will be a terror on offense with his speed and high motor.

With regards to everyone who focuses on analytics it should be noted that the transfers greatly improve our ability to finish around the rim or shoot 3s.

Definitely need a backup center. Gurdak can’t play 40 minutes a game and Ware has not shown he can be a viable option as backup.
