I'll never get over those fools thinking "Born In The USA" was some happy patriotic song.

Like those fools at a certain political gathering dancing to RATM's "Killing In The Name Of."

Listen to the damn lyrics people.
I’m a fan of all those songs and hold the ideology all three songs are opposed to. Sometimes things are deeper than “idiots don’t know what the song means.” I’m a huge Neil Young, Springsteen and Tom Petty fan. Don’t agree with their worldview but I respect their perspectives in their songs and see that many times they shed light on very real issues. We may disagree on resolutions, but the diagnosis is the same. Love RATM as well!

It’s a jam. Nuff said. That riff

But yeah maybe “Good Times” by Chic would be more apropos for the vibes we’re looking for

Also did Tom Petty do a Born in the USA/Rockin in The Free World type song? I don’t really think of Petty as a Young/Springsteen type that’s always into social/political issues

I’ve been skeptical, but adding Freeman will make cautiously optimistic. Should start out the season in the top 25, probably. But I can’t see us going much higher in the preseason rankings. Even if we add Stokes, I think most of the media will be rightfully skeptical of any Mark Pope lead team until they see on court results after what happened last year.

Good. Started preseason 23 in year one. Result? Spent half the year in the top 10.

In year 2, we started in top 12. Result? 7-seed, Unranked, round of 32.

Might be better to be disrespected at first.

AP Preseason rankings this past season: Purdue, Houston, Florida, UConn, St. Johns, Duke, Michigan, BYU, Kentucky.

Illinois was 17th. Arizona was 13th.

As the old saying goes... it doesn't matter where you start, it is where you finish that counts.

Neil Young has a song that hits me deep personally.

I listen to him a lot being that he was also a heroin addict. His lyrics really hit home a lot of personal feelings I’ve felt over the years.

He’s a deep dude. Doesn’t fall out the way I do on some moral questions but I’ve always respected him because I think he’s deep and honest, and very talented.

Yeah, I think it’s cool as hell he bought a train company for his child. That’s how you should spend that money.

Springsteen acts a little too foolish for me these days. I like his music but it takes away from my love of it when he starts making his concerts nothing but political statements.

My favorite band, the Strokes' first hit, "Last Nite" features a guitar riff and opening groove heavily inspired by Tom Petty's "American Girl". Julian Casablancas (The Strokes lead singer) acknowledged the similarity, and often cited as a "rip-off." Tom Petty was amused rather than bothered, acknowledging it as a nod to his song. I will always respect Petty because of that.
