This is likely a courtesy to allow him to commit somewhere before Kentucky withdrew it's offer on the Freeman commitment. Why else commit early on a Sunday morning?

Let's see if Matt Jones knew what he was talking about when he said by today we'll have one of him and Freeman. Add him, and we're doing damn good in this portal season.

Matt Jones just posted a tweet saying “Freeman or bust”. Maybe I’m just a chicken little but that worried me. Yesterday Matt said we’d get either Ransik or Freeman today and now that tweet doesn’t sound confident.

I wanted Ransik more than Freeman with the two shot creating guards but whatever. Hope we get Freeman. Hope to God we 1.) land him and 2.) no foot injuries

I really would have liked this guy as backup but im guessing he wanted a starters guarantee and you can’t do that with an offer out to freeman. We don’t know the money size either. I could see Florida Stare offering him a little more.
Even if we get Freeman, we all know you need quality depth. Jela and Mo didn’t do much last year but you could play them both. If we get Freeman I hope we can at least find a specialist. Either a shooter 4 or a defensive, rebounder. This Guy would have been ideal off the bench.
If it ends up as Freeman and McBride as the 4’s I feel like that would be seen as a portal success in bolstering the frontcourt compared to last year

Need quality depth. UK isn't nearly as good as BBN is clamoring about. There's a gap between us and the top 20.
Freeman is significantly better than Rancik. If we get Freeman, we are solid at the 4. He’d be the best 4 Popes had at UK by a wide margin.
I agree but until you know about Stokes, you wonder if NIL commitment was a factor here.
