"Both of those games reportedly will feature teams from the Group of 6, with the Poinsettia Bowl potentially pitting the champions of the Mountain West and the new-look Pac-12.

The Puerto Rico Bowl and Poinsettia Bowl, last played in 2016, reportedly will replace three bowls that are no longer on the schedule: LA Bowl, Bahamas Bowl and Detroit’s GameAbove Sports Bowl.

There will be a total of 41 bowl games for the 2026 season, including the 12-team College Football Playoff."

Unlike some, I LOVE all the bowl games. Never too much college football on TV for me.

More bowl news - the Rate Bowl is changing its name back to the Cactus Bowl and will be played in ASU's stadium instead of the Arizona Diamondback's stadium.

I think there are too many bowl games. Quantity over quality is what it's all about these days. The NFL is dreaming up ways to increase the games on their schedule as I type this. But I like that Poinsettia Bowl idea of Pac 12 champ vs. Mountain West. That gives that bowl some meaning at least.

San Diego is a nice location for a bowl game.

Puerto Rico feels like an expensive trip that teams will be inclined to turn down.

I get that but a lot of these games are on while there is nothing else to really watch.

It is great to be able to meet a friend out for a beer during the workday (or when you are never working, if you are a fireman) and there is a bowl game on...

You are right about that and I fully recognize that I'm in the minority on this. I just don't have much interest in college football these days. I like anything that seems closer to how it used to be. If there's a bowl game that has been around a long time like the Independence Bowl and two 8-3/7-4 teams that don't have opt outs are playing. I care about that. Too many six win teams or teams without key starters playing in bowl games.
