I get it, but many players don't look at it that way.

Thinking back on last year:

- Gymfi didn't play all year - down to 13
- Mallegni out to start the year
- Rodriquez after six games (I believe) - down to 12
- Chit Chat was out with that upper body injury for a few games
- McCabe went down for rest of the season - down to 11
- Hannah was hurt and out a few games
- Johnson hurt late in the season

Jan did a terrific job piecing that team together.

Ava carried the load, Chit Chat and Taylor really improved and really helped
Houston did a lot more than expect, good for her
Hannah played her heart out even though she was dinged up, so proud of that young woman
Kylie's effort was tremendous but offense was too erratic
Hays took baby steps getting better, hoping for a better 26-27 season
Addie did not step up to the plate, very disappointing. Levin gave good effort but lacked some of the physical tools. Mallegni was just behind because of medical issues

Really like the 8 player roster so far. Stronger than last year.
Johnson was hurt late in the 2023 season, Clarks last finals run. She missed ALL of last season and wasn't even dressing right away this season. Jada is the one that had knee surgery before this season. Good thing we could get that done for her while she was still at Iowa.

Right? The benefits of playing at a P4 far outweigh the benefits of playing in a mid major like Western Illinois.

Ya I do otherwise I would not have said it. You ask a question and you expect me to say "well gee. I guess your are right, sir"

Rodriguez doesn’t count odd situation but she quit that isn’t normal.. Injuries do happen which we lost 1 right in McCabe. Read my previous posts I said we should be at 11-12. The health issue is a risk but you don’t lose 4 players unless your the early 2000 Hawkeye WBB.
I definitely disagree that Rodriguez doesn't count. Every team, typically, has at least 1 unhappy player that is no longer invested in the team. This is no different than an injury. Actually, it might be worse.

At 8-10 active players much less someone is disgruntled.

Hope they get serious about bringing in a tall athletic forward to help with paint defense and rebounding. Seems an imperative for this coming season. Need someone quicker than Hays, taller than Houston, more physical/experienced than Woliczko.

I assume they are waiting for the first valuations to settle, but that appears to me as a glaring issue on the '26-'27 roster. Are they even targeting anyone? Is everyone confident Hays can improve her athleticism enough to back up Heiden? I'm skeptical, but hope she can prove me wrong.

Boy several are impatient. There were like 1400 transfers and less than 200 have committed or recommitted to their school.
Yup, Gotta be patient. Chit Chat committed on April 23rd, Emely on May 19th. Early on its a sellers market (Agents) As time elapses it moves to more of a buyers market. Iowa had significant needs and addressed those in the sellers market, Now they can be a bit more selective on the money they want to spend.

While I agree with the sentiment of "quicker than Hays, taller than Houston, more physical/experienced than Woliczko," it also made me think that only one person could fill the role. Screenshot 2026-04-18 at 12.20.57 PM.png

Kyle has said on multiple Hawkeye Report Podcasts that Iowa needs a 4, and he talked a lot about the difficulty of landing one with Woliczko coming in since playing time for a transfer 4 is unknown (depends on how game-ready Woliczko is).

I personally think Jan and LaSondra have done a solid job so far Two very good players that should improve our offense while maintaining defensive integrity. Was hoping McCowan would have committed by now. Her excelleny perimeter game is just what the Hawkeyes need.

LaSondra said the staff is looking for a flex four to go along with a shooter. Still some work to do but filling departure slots is a positive.

Carnegie is a big step up over Addie ++
Whiting is a better offensive player that also brings a defensive mind set. + because of offense

~Half are usually <5 pts/gm. May be be end of benchers for us in case of injury types.

~1600 projected to hit the portal by Talia.

I can't speak to anything concerning the parents. Don't know them nor heard anything bad about them. I think that McCowan loved her visit and would love to "play" at Iowa. I think the Iowa staff would love to add her. But, I am sure other schools (don't know who) are offering starter minutes along with their financial commitment. I don't think, just guessing, that this staff guarantees anyone that they will start or play X amount of minutes. (Addie Deal) I believe McCowan should come, relish the opportunity, even if it means possibly coming off the bench, getting use to the faster, more physical play and then when in there making her mark and be a dependable, strong part of the rotation. The Big 10 is a huge step up from the OVC. I feel it is advantageous for McCowan not to be heavily depended upon as a starter and let her work her way to substantial playing time as time goes on. Who knows, maybe she comes in and grabs a starting spot before the season starts.
Well I was initially happy to here a couple of reports here about McCowan and her parents.
Take it neither you or Old_wrestling_fan2 subscribe to Skim's discord?
So I figured this is where I got the original info from a person who is on it. They didn't go into it, but I sensed it wasn't about NIL (as in direct cash).
Seems another confirmation came out that the parents aren't like the Joens, but have other requests besides NIL that are considered weird.
Guess that was my reference to the parents were a handful.
Anyways, if these reports are true, which Skim is pretty accurate, I'd say this is only doing to get worse as time passes and things aren't going as planned with PT or whatever. Plus, the ask is most likely going to pile on the weirdness when we try to keep her the following year. JMHO

I can not speak to how weird the requests may or my not be. They could be common but just weird to others.

Does that push Brynn McGaughy to the bench? Iowa was among McGaughy's final two or three schools.
Probably not as she is listed as a Wing G on Torvik and a Forward on ESPN this past season.
YULIA GRABOVSKAIA was a SR post/center who came off the bench against us. Meaning they started 4 guards and a wing/forward in Brynn.
Guards Stines and Ladine are SR starters that are gone.
Think 5'11" Amayah Garcia (#51) is their only Top 100 guard coming in.
They picked up Macey Huard, 6'2", G, Jr. (6.4 ppg from 2024-25) form OK St. Her stats indicate she did not play last year.
6'6" Tilda can shoot the 3 often so I suspect they run a 4 out and/or 5 out sys,
Looks like they're trying to go taller from outside and inside which would probably indicate 6'3" Brynn would fit that model and stay a starter.

Brynn is a 4

definitely not a SG/SF

The Big will be stacked again next year

We will be better

Washington, Minnesota, USC will be better

Illinois and Michigan return almost everyone and will be tough

Kyle Husemann now retweeting Talia Goodmans tweet that Teagan Mallegni is going to Wisconsin (as expected).

I’m happy for Teagan.

She had a series of setbacks but never complained (at least publicly) and seemed to be engaged on the bench to my recollection.

She’s returning home with a fresh start and the prospect of plenty of playing time.

A question for Kyle? Does the staff ever release the names of players whose agents may have contacted Iowa, yet Iowa chose not to recruit? Or is there any list/information which would tell fans who was interested in Iowa? Or as an insider, are you aware of players that contacted Iowa? I remember Addie Deal saying one of her handlers mentioned to her that Iowa might be a location to investigate?

The foreign option is still open for Iowa: as some have pointed out NIL and money issues for the players might be structured differently.

All forwards-- home nation listed

Georgia Cox Australia 6'4"
Jaleesa Molina Netherlands 6'3"
Sophia Ceppellotti Italy 6'1"
Jite Gbemuotor Nigeria 6'2"

Foreign players are more fundamentally sound and if coming off the bench, those fundamentals could only help the team.
