FC/OT: Franklin tells USA Today PSU’s NIL budget in 2024-25 was $7mm. PSU says close to $14mm.

Our budget could have been $50,000,000 and it wouldn’t have mattered. He checked out early and his team was unprepared.
I totally agree; both the coach and a lot of the players checked out after losing the Oregon game, which was a disgrace because that loss didn't have to define the season. Thankfully, a true Penn Stater did a great job in recovering some pride after he took over.

If Penn State was better-NIL. o_O ‘ed last season, why were they such an embarrassing SH|T. SHOW. o_O against UCLA and northwestern? Besides, I thought Franklin, Kraft, and Neeli were well maligned aligned.
I don't compare the Iowa loss to the UCLA and Northwestern losses for many reasons, but that was another loss against a program that probably spends much less than PSU.

I've accepted that PSU isn't going be near the top in NIL; you don't have to keep saying it as it is what it is. PSU also isn't a pauper and has more money to spend than probably 90% of the other programs in the country. It had enough NIL to make it to the Final Four in 2024 and be ranked as the preseason #2 team in 2025.

Also, you talk about doing more with less. Let's see. In the 2025 draft, PSU had two first round draft picks and several other players who were drafted, and in the 2026 draft, PSU is going to have a first round draft pick and up to eight players are projected to be drafted. My guess is that in the 2025 and 2026 drafts combined, PSU probably is in the top five or six schools for drafted players.
Bingo! Who recruited and developed those players? Despite not having anywhere near top 10 NIL money? In fact PSU stood at #8 in number of roster spots in the NFL last fall.

Easy explanation. After being cash starved for so long, everyone skipped practice to go shopping.

Judging by the fan reaction at Beaver....the "loyal" fanbase checked out first.
If the "true" Penn Stater did such a great job.....why isn't HE the head coach?

If you have accepted that PSU isn't going to compete with the top programs in NIL and are satisfied that PSU is spending more than 90% of other programs.....then the results of the last decade should be satisfactory. The disconnect IMO, is with the entitled and delusional fans who think PSU is a top 5 program. When the past 300 games indicated PSU is more accurately a 10-15 program. Franklin's record over almost 150 games here is actually slightly better than the 150 games before his arrival.
But no matter, we have entered the Pat Kraft era of "excellence at the highest level."

Right. He’s telling USA Today his NIL budget was only $7,000,000. He told me last season that he didn’t want to coach at Penn State anymore based on his team’s unpreparedness.
It sucks that he insulted you personally like that. I'd be pissed too.

This should help us all move on from Franklin:

"You go through that deal, and you're thinking, I don't want to let them off the hook financially," Franklin said. "That's something you're struggling with. But it wasn't about me penalizing Penn State. At that point, it was about what do I need to do for my family and for myself to be happy and move on?"

We upgraded by getting Campbell and VT upgraded by getting Franklin. It worked out for everyone.

It’s all an unregulated mess but how does anyone know:

The rumors are so rampant about NIL that even Cignetti had to step in to dispel one:

Therein lies the rub. When NIL numbers are cited accuracy and consistency are usually absent.

Does Franklin's number include Allar's deal with Stellantis? Does Franklin even know the value of that deal?

Are you sure? Sounds like maybe CJF checked out after Kraft didn't want to renegotiate his contract.

Has he asked VT for a new contract yet?

Not me personally. All Penn State fans. You wouldn’t understand, but I think almost all Penn State fans would.
I'm trying to get into the club. Pretty exclusive. I started in 1966, still have high hopes to be a "loyal" fan.
I'm working on the hate Franklin, hate Jay and the chapter on I love Joe but.......

The Kraft/Franklin dynamic didn't start and end with that. It goes back to a fundamental disagreement over the timing and scope of the stadium renovation. Kraft promised Franklin that extra cash would be available for the signing of top recruits prior to the new 7/1 NIL regulations. When other groups started to question the scope of the renovation, Kraft asked Franklin to meet with people and support the project....which he did.
However, when the time came to sign the premier players prior to 7/1, Kraft's pockets were empty. This was the end of the alliance. CJF was upset and Kraft countered by accusing of spending the money on his roster poorly.
Franklin never asked for a raise personally. He has an agent.
The part that I'm speculating on somewhat is this: I believe that things got so bad that President Benapudi attempted to mediate, She rightfully concluded that the relationship was irreparably damaged. She could have attempted to appease Franklin by approving his agent's request. She chose not to and supported Kraft. So yes, a great deal happened behind the scenes and Franklin knew he would not be back at PSU regardless of the results of the season. Now I get that asking for a raise is a horrible thing to do and no coach anywhere has gotten an extension. Franklin was the 15th highest paid coach at best at that point.

41.5 million over 5 years and 9 million from PSU. I think that's 10 million per. He got his raise. He's getting more than Campbell annually. HAHA....

What is Campbell’s buyout? How many more years?

😞
8 year 70.5 million fully guaranteed. ;)
It appears that there will never be any posts concerning contract here for at least that long. Smooth sailing on the good ship S.S. Kraft/Campbell.

I'm sad. With Franklin gone and excellence at the highest level achieved, the BWICAC will be forced to disband. No loses, no coaching mistakes, this place will be a ghost town.
My lord you're ridiculous
Franklin was a good to great coach that couldn't win big games and reached his ceiling here. Last year, Penn State went all in and he flopped. He knew he was gone and was probably ready to leave. Best of luck to him at VA Tech. Easier path in a weaker conference.

Campbell could exceed what Franklin did, reach the same levels or fail miserably. He'll be bashed every time he loses a game like most coaches but change was needed. Hopefully it works....it not, they'll find someone else.
