I thought Hawthorne was supposed to be really good? Is he staying or not?

I don’t see him doing jack **** to be honest, you couldn’t dissect him and find a muscle, kid looks softer than a new blanket.

Hard to disagree with your points... my expectations/hope for him would be that he can get 8-10 mins/game and provide solid, rotation depth.
That I could see as legitimate expectations, and anything that surpasses that would just be icing on the cake.

If Stoke commits, b/c of his ability to attack off the bounce, I could see playing him & Kam at the 2 & 3 OR the 3 & 4 depending on other CG/SG/PF commits. Diallo & Stokes provide great ability to attack off the bounce w/outside shooters as Kam and either another guard or PF.
Does anyone REALLY think we got Stokes? It just seems so obvious to me what's happening.

He was literally the first one to say he was back or it was reported I remember reading it. But like always you can’t take anything serious until they post he’s signed I guess.
Yeah. He was asked recently and he said he hasn't thought about it.

Re: Stokes, my gut says probably not, but I have no idea...I was just thinking about flexibility of lineups with him.

So, in an ideal scenario where he does commit...He's athletic & strong enough to play small ball 4 and taking advantage of opposing PFs off the bounce, but he's quick enough to play SF...where he could use his strength/passing ability to post up opposing SFs.

Durant looks like a beanpole to, but he has been a star for years, and kills teams with his stroke. Not saying BH will, but damn give him a fkn chance first. We can always hope he turns out to be great.

Maybe he will play the money game also, if he really is a talent.

They all think about it, with this NIL. But we all know how practice talk can translate to not so great in the games.

Same position. Stokes would clearly start and play the majority of minutes. I also wonder why he hasn't entered the portal to see what kind of NIL deals may be out there. He has a lot of upside as is.

Hawthorne might have to become our de-facto back-up PF. Rancik looks like about it for options at that position if we don't get Freeman. So there will still be minutes available for him.

If we don’t know on Stokes by Monday morning, I’d put my name in if I were him just in case. His market is going to be suppressed regardless of when he enters the portal anyways so there was never a rush.

This is his career and time to make money. He can’t waste another 2 years(no huge payday this year and with no real PT that will mean no huge payday next year too). Has to start proving some value on the court for his future earnings, wherever that may be

He redshirtd because he is a project.
No redshirted to get better & he was still growing 2 inches in a year.
He turned down Duke & WVa + Va Tech & 30 other schools.
W Va player of year & Averaged 23 & 6 at Huntington Prep where many NBA greats have played. Ended up being # 35 in 2025 class.
Hawthorne will abide. Pope likes him & will reward his loyalty

He’s already got his future plan. Never hurts the Duke players who play with great guys.

So, I guess he would have played at Duke last year? He would have been a project at Duke last year. He might have played at West Virginia or VA Tech. He did not play on a bad injury prone Kentucky team..

With the luck and decision making of Pope, BH transfers and looks like Ament at a
Different school. For some reason UK fans are being punished. That dang Annabell doll!

Feels a little Dontaie Allen/Trent Noah to me. I'll wait to see things before I believe all the Jack and the Magic Beanstalk tales.
Was the "Jack and the Magic Beanstalk tales" a reference to Jack Givens? If it wasn't you should definitely claim it. I got a kick out of that, very clever.

He has until Tuesday to declare for the portal. I personally would like him to stay to see what he got. If he was that good in practice and Pope didn't play him last year. SMH

I don't know how good Hawthorne was in practice, obviously. But Jack Givens - who is one of the only guys allowed to watch practices all year long - liked his game. And to your point, Givens indicated that Hawthorne was going to play and lose his redshirt (which was probably not in his best interest at that late point in the season) BUT could not due to an ill-timed injury happening to him at that same time.

I assume that you didn't know that fact. Others can believe that or not, but why would Givens lie about it? All the negative-at-all-cost posters can still continue to ensure us over-and-over again how terrible and useless Hawthorne will be, but only a fool or a disingenuous bad-faith poster would deny the injury report.

But you've read or heard about Givens discussions on Hawthorne, right? He's went into a good bit on the Leach report. And I would think a number of posters would be familiar with his take and what he knows. So, given what I assume is your position on Hawthorne, if you were taking good-natured swipe at Givens that was a great line.

I have. I like Goose, I really, really do. He is a bit, ummmm, over the top about his opinions on some guys. I've heard him talk way, way too much about Trent Noah and how he just needs to get "one to fall". Goose has played enough that he should realize Noah has far more issues than confidence. But yeah, I've heard his stuff. I honestly have a hard time listening to the stuff on the official network. I do, but it's painful at times. A spade is a spade in my world.

But again, just to be clear, I'm not that clever!

Him being part of the program now has to be taken into account. Noah should get on with his life's work at a smaller program and now we're into another year where we hope he hits threes in a game. Just frustrating.

I try not to call posters out, but can you go a full day without $hitting on one of our players, especially one you haven’t seen play?

For the sake of the people in your everyday life, I hope you’re not this chronically negative offline.

My goodness.

On Monday Ben Roberts said from his watching practice and talking with people, Hawthorne is expected to be in the top 8 rotation. Leach said "from watching practice [he] was 'very high' him on him [Hawthorne] and if UK ends up with a team that has 8 guys better than him 'they'll have a hell of a team.'" Roberts agreed and said Leach had even seen him more than he had, but said from talking with others who have seen Hawthorne everyone is intrigued by him for next season.

So, that's some pretty good (albeit vague) stuff from better sources than any of us even watching all the video, etc. we can get our hands on. Hawthorne will have to prove his worth in games, but again I just think his potential is being blown off by folks who have no idea and instead have a perspective that trumps any real investigation into the player - basically, in many cases, the types that decide how good a player might produce in one year of college, or later become in college, based on high recruiting school rankings.

Hawthorne reached as high as the top 40 in a loaded recruiting class in some ranking services. There is some talent to give reason for optimism. He's tall and has an over 7' wing span. If he is an ok shooter and can dribble and chew bubble gum at the same time, he should be a decent rotation option.

Jasper Johnson and Collin Chandler were top 40 recruits as well and underwhelmed as freshman. Hopefully practicing a full year at the college level helps in averting such disaster.
