We really are going to be filled with Colgate level players. Not saying you can’t find good players at these schools. But in an optimal world we should not be recruiting this many of them.
I definitely understand your point, but many mid-majors being recruited by Kentucky (and many others) have proven themselves worthy:
Koby Brea, Antonio Reeves, Kellen Grady, Amari Williams, Ansley Almonor, Jacob Toppin, Kam Williams and Nate Sestina quickly come to mind as players who came from what I would consider mid-major schools. Of course, you have to be selective and certainly cannot be exclusive at the mid-major level, but I think a careful, judicious search and evaluation can yield some quality players to help our Program. A keen eye for talent can pay great dividends for the right, skilled coaching staffs. I think the same thing applies to searching for and evaluating international players ...

Yeah of course you can fix legit players from them for certain. Lots of under rated theee star guys who develop over a couple years are really good. I want Davis and Wilkins 100%. They are the cream of that group. You also have guys that never make an impact even though they thrived in those leagues.

Wouldn't hate having him as a deep bench 3pt specialist, but he looks pretty slow, not sure he'd translate to the SEC.

Fantastic post bud. 100% agree with you and certainly think the right players from mid majors can help us be competitive. There’s kids every year who for whatever reason/reasons, never got the chance to make a big program, some were late bloomers, grades could’ve been a concern or whatever it may have been. No matter, there’s still hundreds of kids every year who finally GET IT, and start believing in themselves, work harder than they ever had before and make huge strides. I love those stories and hope we get the next one who’s ready to dominate. I think this staff is doing all they can to get more great fits than individual guys. I honestly don’t see their vision yet but hopefully it works great for them.

Who is CMP going to be able to recruit otherwise? Most the elite and good players have told him to take a hike while we had to pay Diallo a million less than what we were going to pay Wright.

This is just who CMP is. He cannot be anything more and I’m tired of trying to believe he’s capable of more. It’s not as if I’m calling for him to be fired, I’m just saying he’s a guy that isn’t a very good recruiter.

Ainsley Almonor type player. Good shooter but not very good at anything else.

Oh, he needs to be fired. Make no mistake about that.

Looks big enough, definitely a step slow, but put him on the opposite side of Kam on a Zoom/Moreno PNR and let it fly.

Better than the ball finding a wide open Mo D (love Mo but he's a chucker).

I think you have to stock up on mid majors. Especially older guys with 3 years of run.

Seen plenty of teams in football do it and have great success. IU Chief among them.

Half the elite 8 teams had players from Drake and similar programs it seemed like.

The game is going through another transition in terms of recruiting and roster building.

For ages it was recruit high school, build a team over a couple years.

Then we moved into a rankings, recruiting star players, etc…but still kind of build over time.

Then OAD, high level AAU circuit, prep academy ball. Get a ball dominant guard and a freak athlete in the front court. Rinse and repeat every year.

Now it’s moving towards this professional structure. Roster management. Yeah great talent is important, but you need depth, role players, etc…

Era of 3, 4, 5…platoons of lottery talent is over. Nobody has the money. No talent wants to share the money or run.

Big 3 era in the league lasted a hot minute and it really only worked if you had Lebron James. Most other attempts failed. Multiple ball dominant high dollar stars just doesn’t work out. Even if you get lucky and they somewhat get along and there’s no drama or chemistry issues, you’ve still sacrificed cap space for key depth/role players.
