He has shown a knack for turning programs around. Those results speak for themselves. The next logical step is P4 school.

Amazing to see Coach that has actually won conference regular season and tournament championships. Pope hasn’t even ever made a conference final in his entire career. How could anyone not look at this and be impressed.

Assuming CMP doesn’t do well next year, he’ll probably be fired before Barnes retires, assuming they’re still in the tournament.

I’m guessing if we don’t go after high rollers like Golden or Lloyd, Shertz and Lucas will be our likeliest candidates. Hopefully we have an AD who doesn’t screw this up. But I’d like to think boosters will take a much larger role in this search considering they won’t want another botched effort by this administration.

This topic is exactly why if next season goes south, kentucky has to fire Pope the minute we have too many losses to make the tournament (regardless of winning the SECT). If thats Feb 15th and we have 12 losses, so be it. Pope can finish out the year, but we need to get on the coaching search before anyone else.

Another bashing Pope thread. Jesus Christ, just stop. We get it. You hate Pope and hope he fails. You probably thought Calipari was great. Calipari sucked. He’s done less with more than any coach in the history of sports. That stupid phuck won 1 tournament game his last 4 seasons with stacked rosters, but you want to trash Pope, despite a successful first year, and some bad luck last season. Some real stupid fans we have.

If we're hitting up St Louis for a coach. Give me the ghost of Rick Majerus. He was fun. Just give him a trash can and a towel and he's good to go.

Anyone who criticizes Pope is apparently a Cal guy, I've noticed this sentiment in the last few days. Is it possible that people look at Pope and just think what is this guy doing? What in the hell does that have to do with Cal? Isn't it possible that this program just keeps being a slapdick operation no matter who is the coach?

No I don’t hate Pope. I really wanted him to succeed when he was hired. But I did wonder if he was ready to take the reins at UK. And unfortunately this year was a huge disappointment. And as of today, the recruiting for next year is not looking promising.

As far as Cal, I felt he wound up thinking he was bigger than the program and was frustrated at how poorly his teams performed with the amount of talent he brought in.

Yea cause Garrison is so consistent. 2 years is a large sample size.

Schertz has drastic improvements. Pope has nothing but excuses for lack of success and zero improvement. If Pope would have played at any other school he would not be the coach at UK and I don't see how that is debatable.

I posted this on the other thread about Rick Barnes retiring after next season and responded to a comment about how Tennessee would then hire Shertz because he coached an hour away at LMU and they are VERY FAMILIAR with him. My comment on the Barnes thread:

You are exactly correct, MaysvilleKY. Tennessee will hire Shertz and he will be the best coach in the SEC. Kentucky/Barnhart are too stupid to hire Shertz and we'll be eating their "orange dust" for the next 15 years. For an analogy, we (Kentucky) will be like Roscoe chasing the orange General Lee. Shirtz is LEGIT, he can build a team and coach circles around many coaches, not to mention Pope. I've watched him for years and he is simply a terrific coach. I know some knuckles heads on this site do not seem to care for Shirtz but that's because they haven't watched him coach for years as I have. I will make this BOLD prediction: If and when Tennessee hires Shirtz, he will be their Pitino. I'm just pizzed thak UK is going to miss out on Shirtz and he'll wind up coaching the d@mn orange team. Thanks Mitch

Just to be clear I was ready for cal to go, but let’s not compare his last 4 years to pope let’s compare his first 2-3 years to popes. How’s that comparison look?

Josh Schertz is the winningest coach on any level over the past 10 years. He is going to be great somewhere and it will happen soon.
If Pope can’t turn things around next season, Schertz should be our one and only call.

I’ve been watching Schertz too and completely agree. I think he turned down Syracuse to return to SLU.
We were a year late on Jon Sumrall who will put Florida back at the top of the SEC.
