I was looking for info on Andrew McKeever going to Gonzaga and found this on Al.....OMG if true! Garza got $5M for a new 2 year deal.

Iowa’s Alvaro Fulgaris, who hit one of Iowa’s biggest shots in history to beat Florida, got offered 4m from Louisville. Not sure how today’s signings affect that. Visiting this week. Kentucky and ole miss trying to get him for similar money

That is insane if true. Can't fault the guy for going after that...

He would’ve stayed at Iowa for $3 million. We said no. And I’m good with that.

$4M for a bench player and a guy who shows up less than 50% of the time on game day? Wow.

$4M. Good for Alvaro and I don't blame him, but that's wild.

As I've been saying the past couple of years, this is just getting started. Without some kind of a salary (let's call it for what it really is) cap system, what's this all gonna look like in another 5-10 years? Things are quickly getting nuts. How are schools, except those with the deepest pockets, going to be able to keep up with all of this? Rhetorical question.

Sounds like from insiders 'Trey Thompson will step in and be as productive as Folgeras'

Is there any chance he could maybe possibly if it's not too much trouble.......be just a little bit more productive? (At least during the regular season)
LOL, I hope! I think the point more being is we aren't going to overpay AGAIN for Folgeras when we have TT. I still will buy AF beer if I ever run into him. Thompson is supposed to be just the type of player that BM loves.

Good luck Folgers, its the day and age we live in now. I heard at least 10 teams were blowing up his agents phone during the tournament throwing out wild numbers in the 2-3 mil range. You gave us Hawk fans quite the ride along with this team, amazing run!

Of course agents want huge numbers thrown around.

Sorry to see him go, he played with a lot of energy and would have gotten better and been a big piece for this team. But the hawks were probably cutting his money
Some games he did play with a lot of energy, and others he didn't, hence the problem....

Alvaro was either an all B1G player or we were playing 4 on 5 at times with him on the court. If he could just find some consistency like avg 12 ppg and 5 rpg he could get a shot at the NBA. I don't blame Ben for parting with him because it was frustrating not knowing what player you would get and if the money offer amount is true, he would be nuts not take them offers....

You can't fault him for grabbing that bag. We would all do the same. He is etched in hawkeye lore like the rest of that team. But it's also true that he scored 0 points on the road vs Maryland and Minnesota. Besides having shaky handles and a lanky build, his biggest flaws are he does not like off-ball contact or exerting massive energy on defense. When his shot isn't falling, he just doesn't have a whole lot to lean on. But he was there when we needed him most.

Before the tournament, there was a spirited discussion of him on this board. The
views were almost polar opposites----some thought he was vital (maybe 75%) while others (25%) considered him to be a huge disappointment. I was closer to the latter. For an experienced player, I saw way too many handling turnovers, passing into a crowd turnovers, rushed shots that were airballs or close to airballs, rebounds that went right through his hands, defensive lapses, .....and many of those were in critical situations. I was surprised that Ben said he was a good passer because I saw that as a big weakness (maybe he was just trying to find something nice to say).

Then, I found how much he was being paid. We can do better.

You could almost describe me in both those categories. He was disappointing as a whole. Just too many games were he was either a nonfactor or a detriment. When he played well he made Iowa so much tougher to guard. We don't have anyone else that had his size, shooting and passing. When he plays well the court is a lot bigger for Iowa with spacing he provided. He was probably game to game the most important player aside from Stirtz. Not to say he was 2nd best, definitely not most consistent. When he played well Iowa played well. Thompson is not as big but hoping he can provide some of what Folgueiras did.

Alvaro had an excellent pass to Banks for a layup in a crucial moment of the Florida game. If he could play every game like the Florida game, he would be waiting to hear his name called in the lottery of this upcoming NBA draft IMO.

There is NFW he was paid 4M. lmfao. GTFO of here. the reporting on this stuff is comical. AF makes as much as the 10th pick in the draft. 1000008642.gif
