If you can't recruit you can't compete. It's job number 1 in coaching. It won't guarantee success, it will guarantee failure.

The thing is, you could fire him today, have a new coach in place in two weeks and the new guy probably wouldn’t have a worse team than what Pope is gonna slap out there. The problem is the new guy would have to be Pearl or someone who isn’t under contract.

Our AD is retiring. He doesn't care. I would be surprised if Mitch does anything. The next AD will make or break us.

Seems for a program like ours a GM hire is almost as imporant as a HC hire these days. Will be interesting to see if things develop into a NBA model, where the GM basically hires the coach as opposed to the coach hiring the GM.

If he's fired it will be because of on the court poor performances due to his inability to recruit good or the right players for his "system". He won't be fired because fans don't agree with the kids he's missing on and then having to settle.
We know how this is likely to play out - he will get none of the top 20 transfers and end up with the mid-to-bottom of the barrel of what's left, then we'll get blown out again by all the P5 teams and end up in the bottom 2/3s of the SEC. Probably won't make the tournament, but if we do, it'll be barely and then we'll lose in the first weekend.
My money is on him getting scraps and then looking completely discombobulated all season long, challenging Cal's 19-loss season for worst ever at UK.
