Where's the Me Too crowd on this one? Rich famous guy keeps his job and young lady basically ousted. I'm not part of that crowd, I'm just wondering if they're griping about this or if they pick and choose when to be outraged.

You can find whatever you want to look for, I'm sure there'll be outrage from all quarters because people ***** about everything. She's 43, not that young. I don't see any power dynamics involved - just two married people that wanted to bang.

I mean, it’s complete bs this was aired out and now has cost one person their job over something completely consensual (or nothing at all)

this has nothing to do with ‘me too’

You're right - Me Too is the wrong group - I can't keep track of all the offended groups. Lol

Guessing she is out because her job is to be impartial about the people and teams she reports on and she crossed a line in sleeping with the people you're reporting on. Not saying I support it, just working my way through this one.

Should've been easy to shift her job / coverage to another sport etc.

I would assume somebody had to tip them off they were there together. Regardless, actions have consequences and this isn’t the first time she’s been outed for this same thing.

I always laugh at these "I'm resigning, even though I did nothing wrong" statements. Like that creep who was running for governor of CA. If you were innocent, you wouldn't throw away your entire career because of false allegations.

Why did she actually quit? I know what she wrote - but why did she bail if she did nothing wrong when it comes to reporters and the people they cover? Honest question - not trying to stir it up.
I think when this all comes to a head we will find the reason is not having a cozy moment. But it will because of her comments about Max Crosby from the raiders wanting to play for Vrabeal . That’s a blatant no no talking about a player under contract from one team playing for another team. I believe that’s what the Athletic is investigating.

1. I have never once read an article and thought "Ugggg, I bet this author had sex before, gross"

2. This can't be true because I have been told that married people are super duper happy and never cheat...So there is no way that TWO married people cheated with each other.

Talk about missing the point. This isn't about someone "having sex before." This is about a reporter working for "Scoop City: Inside the NFL" and reading a potential article about the New England Patriots, one of their rivals, someone in their division, a former Patriots player etc. and thinking "Hmmm... not sure this reporter has credibility here."

Would it bother me to read that article? Of course not. Do I think she should be fired? Absolutely not. However, would a lot of fans discredit her and The Atlantic if she continued to get the scoop in a profession she has slept around in? Could be a problem.

I see this as a business decision by her more than some moral decision that she is ashamed at having sex. My guess is she knows her cred is hurt by sleeping with someone who's in the middle of the league she claims to get "Scoop City" about.

This is sports reporting/stories...not working for the CIA.

This would be like not "reading" Playboy because the Playmate of the year was ******* Hef

C'mon man. Not reading Playboy because the playmate is..... Do you even believe half the stuff you write? I have to believe you don't. This is a reporter who covers the NFL and has a podcast about getting the SCOOP. Now she has apparently slept with a Super Bowl coach and it could give a hit to her cred in the profession.

I don't care what she did. You don't care. But does the Atlantic care? Their readers? HER? Shrug. Who knows. But you haven't told me a better theory of why she quit.

If she would've had 13 drinks and passed out publicly do you think she would've quit? I don't. I think she probably quit because people will see her as "Sleeping her way to getting scoops" and she knows it. Fair or not, it's a stigma that would follow her. What is your theory on why she bailed?

I think you are looking FAR too much into it. She was likely asked to resign or get fired. That is how corporate America works. Regardless of whether what she did was right or wrong, it could be a black eye on the already scrutinized NFL.

What's (kinda) funny is, nobody really cares they slept together except for their spouses... but its just written somewhere you have to fire somebody and that somebody can't be a coach who just made the SB becauae football is to important to care about who's doing who. But the replacable woman? Yeah she has to go because we can't have cheater reporters. That's a bridge to far.

Yep , sort of like Iowa and the tampering. Lots of schools doing it but to big to mess with so they choose Iowa because well no one really cares about Iowa but the ncaa can say they are doing their job

I mean I’ll start by asking how many of us actually look to see who wrote the article you just read, I know I don’t, so credibility wouldn’t be affected by that alone.

2nd point I think is getting over looked here, if she is getting her intel from coaches or execs she gave it up to, wouldn’t that actually increase her credibility? I’d trust that info more than someone that heard it from a guy that’s bottom level in the organization. She’s literally getting it straight from the source.

Do you think she would’ve been fired or asked to resign if she worked as a nurse, or was a receptionist for a company?

Fair points, and I appreciate the discussion and that we are keeping it civil.

I would challenge the thought that we don’t care who writes an article. Think about during NIL and portal times when rumors are swirling about who is going to what team. There are credible sources and there are terrible sources. Cred matters.

And while I agree that she may come across as having more credibility because she has an “in” I don’t think that’s the type of credibility she or her employer wants to have. It is usually tagged as “ well good morningsleeping your way to the top.”

Most journalists live for breaking the big story or getting the inside scoop. I just think that she knows she is tainted goods, and if she ever gets the big scoop, people will accuse her of sleeping her way to the story, instead of giving her credit for being a good journalist.

She didn't get "fired" or asked to "resign" because of integrity or fair journalism...

She left because it became public. She will be back writing and podcasting in 3 months.

That dude resigned...he didn't resign because he was cheating...he resigned because it became a big public thing.

Again, I do not see how this leads to her having to stop working

I agree with the guy above who said if anything it makes her more credible

hell, schefter and rapaport get contract details and trade comp wrong all the time (actual credibility) and nobody seems to bat an eye when they come out with the next one

She bailed to do damage control, not as a writer, no one cares who the **** writes a story about an NFL team...she is trying to save her private life right now.

She should have come out and said

"If the Athletic wants to fire me for *******, then they can fire me. I, like most married people, am not happy, no matter what fake data tells you. So I went and found happiness with another man who is not my husband and he is also not happy as a married man, so he was seeking happiness with me, because marriage is lame"

No one cares who writes it...no one.

And getting "inside info" makes someone more credible. Not less.

If you cheat on your spouse, you're pretty much scum of the Earth in my book. Sorry I know that will hurt some of you moral softies who don't care about character
Amen...if you are gonna cheat, don't get married. And trust me, everyone knows if they are going to cheat or not.

I know people love the old "it just happened" excuse...but it didn't "just happen". You knew you were a cheater before you got married.
